The Force Unleashed on 5.7 million
LucasArts' latest action adventure the "fastest-selling Star Wars video game in history" after multiplatinum milestone.
LucasArts' Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was regarded as a solid installment in George Lucas' space-opera saga upon its launch in September, recording a decidedly decent critical reception on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PSP. And with award season in full swing, the action adventure has already picked up at least one noteworthy accolade, taking home the Writers Guild of America's award for game writing earlier this week.
To complement the game's qualitative success, LucasArts can now trumpet The Force Unleashed's quantitative performance as well. This week, the publisher's parent company Lucasfilm announced that the game has attained global sales of 5.7 million units across its myriad platforms, which include the Xbox 360, PS3, PlayStation 2, PSP, Wii, DS, and mobile devices.
Of that tally, 1.5 million units of The Force Unleashed were sold during the game's opening week, after the publisher said that it had shipped out 4.3 million copies to global retailers. Lucasfilm notes that The Force Unleashed's performances have secured it the standing of "fastest-selling Star Wars video game in history."
Set between the ending of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and the beginning of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, The Force Unleashed chronicles the travails of Darth Vader's secret apprentice. As the acolyte, players are tasked with hunting down the Jedi remnant across the galaxy, wreaking as much Force-powered destruction as possible in the process.

every single person who has ever downloaded or used an illigal copy of a game is to blame for the gross neglect of PC versions of games. when I found out that force unleashed was coming out on pretty much every single gaming platform out there exept for PC that was a great blow to me, what looked like the first of a new generation of the JEDI KNIGHT series not even being released on my preferred(my only) platform. if anyone reads this and feels as i do please go to : http://www.petitiononline.com/g5d4iu5f/petition.html and sign this petition. as for people who use illigal software remember if enough people stop buying a product than they will not make it anymore
This game was not well received by critics which fuss about control and blah blah blah...all games have problems and even if this game was frustrating at times, it was fun as hell the rest of the time spent playing it...instead of finding negatives, which people like to do, enjoy the positive and don't dwell on the negative because if this game has flaws, what about Fallout 3. This game has a lot flaws, especially its aiming/shooting system. Gun power is inaccurate and takes forever to kill someone.
Plainly intense
Sad cause this game HAD HUGE potential and it turned out to be a big "MEH" rental at best..
@LoseSoul1974 You are getting KOTOR III. It's a PC-exclusive MMO.
Yeah, the game had its quirks, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Now, if we could only get KOTOR III........
would of been a better game if the controls especially the targeting had been fixed. Fun game but truely could of been spectacular, instead of frustrating!
The game was awesome.
It was a good game while it lasted, got kinda that tacky feeling afterwards though and never went back to it, lol.
I had fun with the game, but soooo many problems could've been solved with the game if the devs had just thought to make the targeting camera-based instead of where your character was facing...
Imagine how many they would have sold if the game was any good.
vicsrealms, it aint coming on the PC. Sorry =(
see it pays to make your games multiplatform! If this were an exclusive, it wouldn't sell this well! hmm how do they make sequels to this? the secret apprentice is dead (the rule of star wars game is always make sequel from the "light side" ending), though i wouldn't mind if they break their rule this one time!
dag-dabreemie - Yeah, DELETED scenes. As in it doesn't happen. George Lucas allowed everything that happend in TFU to happen. So Shaak Ti being in this is fine.
i would love a Darth Bane game! The 2 books on Bane are pretty awesome and could be used as a platform for a pretty wicked game!! SWTFU was a unreal game for me, ppl nitpicked the controls, sure took a lil getting used to, but once i had 2 fingers on each of the shoulder buttons (i usually only have one on each) it became 2nd nature!! great game and i want more! of the same but use earlier EU!
When is it coming out on the PC? Then I might buy it.
You know what we need? a Darth Maul game, Lucasarts was going to make a Darth Maul game before the Force Unleashed, but they didn't because people already knew how Maul died...... Lucasarts, didn't you make a Star Wars:Bounty Hunter? with the main character as Jango Fett, who we all know that died in EPisode II? how is that any different than Darth Maul?
The very reason for owning all systems(If you can), when console exclusives hit it doesn't matter. (Sorry PC lovers). "Being able to play any game that comes out regardless of platform, PRICELESS
Think we'll be getting another Battlefront or Fett game anytime soon?
I had no expectations for this game.. maybe that's why I loved it so much.
The reason why it made so much money is because people couldn't pirate it off the pc.
The reason they didn't bring it out on PC is because Jedi Knight 2 is a much better game. That's pretty obvious.
good for you...
ITs a good game yes, but I didnt care for it that much
i guess the anger towards this game comes from the idiot producers thoughts for not bringing it out on pc... i have a wii, but am frustrated at LA for the lame excuses for not bringing it out on pc when it would have rocked... i still haven't bought it... but would in a flash if it was on pc
Never understood the hate for this game. It was fun and satisfying. Too many fanboys outthere nitpicking the game. I do agree with a comment mentionned that it would be nice to expand on the games in the current book universe as well as add a new space-combat sim "a la" Xwing Vs Tie Fighter".
The only thing I didn't like about Star Wars Force Unleashed is that they used Shaak Ti in the story. Granted they made her look sexy as hell, but she was killed off by General Grievous in the Revenge of the Sith deleted scenes and / or seriously wounded in the ending of the original Clone Wars cartoon! Talk about a gaping linear character development plot hole. An award for writing??? Heh. I'm still waiting for my Force Unleashed MP dlc ! Time for LucasArts to work and concentrate on more of the Star Wars expanded universe themes such as maybe the Yuuzhan Vong era or more Kyle Katarn 'n Mara Jade! A new Combat sim too! Don't give up on the PC either, LA!
Wait, I thought everyone hated the game?
Just for the fun of it because some of you down there are debating which version was the best/worst, i thought i would just resolve this and throw in the average reviewer score from Metacritic. Nintendo DS: 61% Sony PSP: 70% Playstation 2: 68% Xbox 360: 73% Playstation 3: 70% Wii: 71%
Wow, I never thought that force unleashed would do so well
I agree that it does have one of the best story lines in the Star Wars Universe, however the game mechanic and performance could use some touch ups...
This game was really AWESOME!! It deserves all of the awards it got!!
I thought the game itself was average, with some fun parts, some boring parts, and plenty of frustration. What kept me playing was the story. This "game" was by far the best Star Wars movie I've seen in years. Definitely worth playing for any Star Wars fan, especially fans of the first three Star Wars films (IV, V and VI) before Lucas started replacing actors with cardboard cut-outs.
Why does Gamespot Say: recording a decidedly decent critical reception on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PSP. I just want to know why the Wii is left out when the game sold 1.18m on the system which is the second best sale on any system after the Xbox360s whopping 1.63m. The PSP only sold 0.58m which isnt that much more then the 0.52 on the DS And the PS3 sold 1.1m(just for the info) Rest is PS2 and mobile
What was so great about the story...?
Good game, not great. The ps3 version has by far the most amount of bugs I have ever experienced in a game.
I'd like to see a breakdown of how it sold across the various platforms. I'm sure the 360 sold the most, followed by the PS3, but for what it's worth, the Wii version did actually make good use of the motion controls, something that's not very common for a cross platform game, and I hope LA's efforts didn't go to waste.
the game is horrible but the story keeps me playing..I hate it so
Hey Lucas, want more sales? Put it on oh I don't know....PC MAYBE!!!!!???
Best Star Wars Game Ever
Why is it only literally EVERY console but not on PC?
if only this game is out for pc, I would totally buy it
They just need to bring X-Wing back for the next gen.
I liked past Star Wars games far better then this one.... Gladius was better....
lol Wii version is horrid looking. PS3/360 versions are the best looking and have the most content. Oh and for all the morons about to say something stupid, the "Wii Only content" is now downloadable content for PS3/360.
This is a great game, and sadly the Wii version was the best. Less problems with force powers, and controls were great. I just wish you could go back and replay a level whenever you wanted. Kind of short, but a great game nonetheless.
Are you kidding me? This game didn't even have a laid-out design for its combat system. It's just plain aweful.
I loved this game even with its flaws, but I'm disappointed that SW The Old Republic is an MMO. I really hope they come out with a single player KOTOR for the next-gen systems.
So i will ask the question everyone is thinking, SW:FU2?
And it, of course, is far, far from being the best Star Wars game out there.Go figure.
