2K Games nails down North American date for Digital Extremes' follow-up to 2007 first-person shooter; international launch set for October 7.
2K Games today detailed its plans to spread Darkness throughout the world. The publisher confirmed that The Darkness II, the sequel to 2007's well-reviewed supernatural first-person shooter, is set to arrive in North American stores October 4, with an international launch October 7.
The Darkness II will pick up several years after the events of the original, with players once again taking the role of Jackie Estacado, now the don of the Franchetti clan. While he has controlled the chaotic powers inside him since the events of the first game, a reasonless attempt on his life kick-starts a full-on mob war, a perfect situation for the Darkness to reemerge.
While the original Darkness game was made by Starbreeze Studios (The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay), development for the second installment has been entrusted to Digital Extremes. The Canadian studio is perhaps best known for 2008's third-person action game Dark Sector, but it has more recently been working on the PC port of THQ's Homefront, as well as the multiplayer mode of 2K Marin's BioShock 2.

was a cool game was in some spots ,but for a game for its age it did well and mike pattons voices were creepy as hope hes back on the second one
Wow. I had forgotten about the Darkness, but thinking back on it, it was a great game. Looking forward to a sequel.
Thanku for releasing it on pc......really even if it sux v much(which i knw it wont) im still getting it ,,,,there arnt much pc games like this one out there really:-(
Yea that's kind of a misleading video, lol. You know, the Darkness effects and graphics look awesome, but yea looking at this from the year 2011, the textures do feel a tad washed out. But it's light-years better than cel-shaded graphics, if that's what they're planning. If they seriously plan to do that, I'd rather they just use the exact same Darkness 1 engine and make a new continued story out of it.
@ jer_1 That is footage from the first game, IMO i think the cel shading could be a change for the good. From the looks of the screens it doesn't look to be a heavy as say borderlands, more like it just gives everything a more "artistic" direction if that's the right word for it. Which makes sense as the Darkness' roots are in graphic novels :)
i loved the 1st one to bits, they should keep everthing from the 1st one and just up the graphics PS Dark sector ws really bad am still to complete it years after i bought it,so non that ish should find its way near the darkness
Normally, I'm a HUGE fan of cell shading, but like all things, it has a time and place. When Borderlands opted to go with cell shading (to the chagrin of many haters out there) I was ecstatic. I thought the style perfectly complimented the comical, action-oriented nature of that game. The Darkness, on the other hand, seems much better suited for a realistic style. Still, as always, I'll reserve judgment until I see the final product.
i heard they're going for a cel shaded look. Not too excited about that :/ I really enjoyed the gritty kind of realistic look they went with, i wish they'd work on the engine they used in The Darkness and improve on it.
Dark Sector was a great game and proved to me that DE is a credible dev. I'm confident they will do the series justice.
HUMAN FLESH, SUSTENANCE FOR SUCH AS US! Haha I love that line from the first one. Darkness was the first game I bought for my 360, and a damn fine purchase.
Was this video for Darkness II or the original? It really wasn't that great looking unfortunately. I do hope this game turns out well, it will give me a reason to play it so I can hear the stuff Mike Patton is bringing to the table for the critters he's possessed with.
The first one was by far one of my favorite games this gen! Can't wait for this one and I really hope Digital Extremes does it justice
hope the music is just as awesome as it was in the first one. Really made the battles that much more intense
It could be really different due to Digital Extremes involvement. I hope its as good or better than the first.
