I think this version of Castlevania either got cancelled or down the line as another castlevania game. Seems like after the failure of castlevania: judgement, Konami killed this project. Made lord of shadows a Castlevania game and probably ask Kojima to retool the story, make the game more cinematic (only Kojima can make game trailers that good), and just supervise the game.
Konami's gothic horror franchise is ready to whip it on new systems; teaser trailer suggests the return of Alucard.
TOKYO--With Castlevania titles making their way to both the Nintendo DS and Wii, it was just a matter of time for new installments the franchise to surface for Sony and Microsoft's latest consoles. During a presentation at Konami's 2008 Tokyo Game Show booth, series producer Koji Igarashi unveiled that a new Castlevania is in the works for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. No title or release date for the project was announced, but Igarashi did show off a 20-second teaser trailer.
The trailer started off by zooming into a tall cliff surrounded by water. The moonlit cliff tops revealed a silhouette of a man standing in the middle of ruins. The screen then went black for a second, with text that read, "The cursed bloodline cloaked in darkness." The screen then zoomed in on the handsome young man, who had long hair and eyes that suddenly glowed red as he looked toward the camera.
"Betrayed by his own kind... Destroyed his father... Destiny tainted with blood."
The screen returned to the cliff once more as the man raised his hand to create a red sword out of nowhere. The camera zoomed out, revealing a character in full costume who appeared to be Dracula's son Alucard.
Konami currently has three Castlevania projects in the works. In Japan, Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia for the Nintendo DS is slated for release on October 23. Castlevania Judgement for the Wii will follow a few months later on January 15. Konami is also working on an arcade game titled Castlevania: The Arcade, which has been beta-testing in Tokyo since July. That game is played with a motion-sensitive stick, which can be swung to execute whip attacks.
man, always the same.why don't they create instead,a game like sotn(2d)with 3d backrounds and with powerful graphics that bare the name xbox360 in HD?yeah,2d scroller with hell-latest generation graphics.why it has to be a 3d platformer again?the core and the power of castlevania games lies in the 2d gameplay.or is it too hard to create a game like this?i don't understand.i have played and own all the castlevania, are my favorite games, and yet,i feel like this is some kind of wish or dream...
In my opinion, the 3D Castlevania games I played were like bad versions of Devil May Cry. Granted, there were some AWESOME fights in Lament (huge corpse thing = massive gaming erection), but they were extremely boring and repetitive in the long run all things considered. In this day and age, SOTN is still considered one of the best sidescrollers around, if not the best, and by far by most fans the best in the series. when you have games like Fallout 3, that are just freaking HUGE, think about how big a 3D styled sidescroller could be. I'm wet just thinking about it. See, with sidescrollers like SOTN, unless they added too many new features, the game could in no way be worse than SOTN. Massive castle, the backgrounds could look amazing, tweaked to perfection animations, and a huge amount of monsters, and maybe a pretty decent story so long as they don't dwell on how sad Alucard is *shudder*. SOTN was made a long ass time ago, yet people still are buying it on Ebay and XBL and such. A sequel would be amazing if they don't take the horrible route they usually do with the 3D versions.
IMRO, Loi, is one of the best action game for the PS2, with a great story, an gameplay. but CoD, has bad designed characters, yet epic, trevor belmont, and great battle system, but the game sucks because is boring. i get tired after 30 min. this game should definitly be 3D.
And why on earth can't they at least make some ports of the new versions coming out for DS? I'd be really happy to be able to play those on my PS3, even without all the flashy graphics.
Personally I really enjoyed the 3D installments for PS2, and I'm thinking with the vast improvement in graphics that will be allowed on PS3 and 360 that they can really make a title worth playing again.
please please make this one in 2d with great graphic and visuals just like SOTN i think i finished that game over 10 time totally in ps in xbox360 and in psp i just love it everything in that game is perfect true classic 2d game with lots of new stuff GOD make them create it in 2d...3d castelvania sucks
Castlevania has always been a solid franchise. It has stood the test of the time incredibly well, and has remained as one of the most iconic franchises. Castlevania NEEDS, and I mean NEEDS a next gen console debut. It has remained sucessful on consoles, and Knoami has had so far a brilliant year. I think they'll make this good.
KONAMI REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE MAKING A GAME THAT HAS TO BE PERFECT AND ONE OF THE MOST!!! IMPORTANT THINGS IS THE SOUNDTRACK SIMPHONY X MADE SOTN epic try to do it again GAMERS REJOICE !!!!
I liked Lament of Innocence, but the level design sucked bad. It was a while ago that I played it so any other faults it had escape me at the moment. Still, I want to belive that they can do it right, with the right people, the right budget, and enough time. ...sigh
Konami better make this game a powered-up 2D version on the next-gen consoles...unless they got a new 3D engine that will work !!!!
Loved the 3D version of the series regardless of what people say. As long as the game has a awesome soundtrack, and great battle system I'm already sold lol
I think this is the video, sounds better than it looks but still I think this game could be awesome!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODb3IWXVh7o
Let's hope this plays in 2D with 3D graphics, like Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles. And let's really hope they ditch the new anime style.
yeah Alucard is back!! one of the coolest characters ever walked on the gaming industry!!! can;t wait for this!!
@clarkspark This may be more of a combination of SOTN and COD if Alucard is the main character. COD wasnt a bad game and a good improvement over LOI. Maybe this game may feel more like DMC than anything else though if they leave in the equipment options (ffs let me see my armor im wearing...) and plz for the love of god, >.> Let me have my gun from the DS versions.
I wonder if this will like SOTN or LOI style. Either way I just want to know when will this be finally released. I like the DS versions but wish they were ALSO on PSN or XBL. I'd buy both!
Oh now this is awesome news! I'm definitely looking forward to this if this is true. Hopefully it'll take place sometime after Dawn of Sorrow, and focus more on what Alucard has done since the events of that game. It's going to be interesting regardless, I also think it'd be damn cool if Soma were to return as a story character too, maybe he and Mina can finally hook up, eh?
this game here looks like it has potensial, wonder if it could be an FPS. it is not a terrible idea, blasting and choping your through draculas hoardes of baddies, and it would increase the horror aspect.
Agreeded I would love to have that gap filled and I hope they give some good new inventive gameplay elements! I want to see some crazy graphics like how they did that makeover with SF IV!
TripSe7en: What the hell does that mean: "All others are posers!" So Leon and Trevor (especially Trevor) who in the time line come before Simon are "posers"? Richter, who has gotten more game time then any other Belmont (correct me if I am wrong) is a poser? Simon is great but his part of the story is over, why try and squeeze another game/story with Simon in between other games in the time line? It won't turn out good. I would love to fill in the gaps from between SOTN and Bloodlines. I want to know if Alucard and Maria did get together in the end and have a son (Eric Lecarde from the Bloodlines game).
This is great news but I really hope they re-work the Castlevania formula a bit. A more serious, fleshed-out story is a must this time around. With Alucard at the helm the game's potential is massive....but the same formula just won't cut it any longer.
AWESOME, ive been playing a few Metroidvanias recently, i really hope the guys can come up with something good
If they just made it play like God of War it'd be an instant hit. The fanbase is there, they just need to make it less rpg-ish for awhile becuase they've been doing that for years. Symphony of the Night was great, but they don't need to copy that formula every time.
Hmmm.... Rattle, rattle, Thunder Clatter, BOOM BOOM, BOOOM!!! Don't worry, Alucard's here, *****!!! ...Sorry, I couldn't resist.
Though Castlevania moved along with the technology (Going from 2D to 3D), I feel it failed to mature with it's fans. THe same story with horrible dialogue and repeating enemies is just not going to get my attention. I really think it's about time Castlevania got the production money it deserves.
