TGS '07: SNK brings the fight to the show floor
Visitors grappled with classic King of Fighters, Fatal Fury games at the publisher's compact booth.
TOKYO--SNK Playmore's long history of fighting games have quite the cult following around the world, and it was evident today at the company's TGS booth with crowds packed around to play the latest--and oldest--titles the company had on show.
The front of the predominantly white booth sported several kiosks playing King of Fighters 4: Maximum Impact Regulation A for the PlayStation 2, as well as Metal Slug 7 for the Nintendo DS. Also in attendance was the infamous DS game Dokidoki Majo Shinpan--the controversial title that tasks you with finding a witch in a high school by slowly stripping young female suspects of their clothes. But the back of the booth was just as busy, if not more so. The back was where SNK had set up stations to play some of its back catalogue, which will soon be released on Xbox Live. These titles include King of Fighters, Magician Lord, World Heroes, and Metal Slug Complete.
While the games themselves were well populated, by far the biggest crowd at the SNK Playmore booth during our visit was drawn by two cosplay girls dressed up as G-string-wearing Fatal Fury character Mai Shiranui. Literally dozens of photographers were crowded around the two girls, who seemed to be taking all the attention in stride.

''Still, I'm glad to see more SNK titles making it to the US via Xbox Live. It's perfect!'' Now only SNK can make great titles on xbox live, ones better then the live arcade version of fetal fury, honestly if they didin't rely instant cash, a PSN version with revamped features would be more pleasing then gimped online live arcade titles like fetal fury. I'll have to see it to believe it, till now, theirs Tekken DR.
Dokidoki Majo Shinpan 2 is actually what SNK are showing. They are showing more merchandise for the first game including child size pillows of the 14 year character with the big breasts. Along with the mousepad that has the breasts raised off the surface of the mousepad.
I'm sorry but "Dokidoki Majo Shinpan" sounds awesome :) . Any news on the new 2d "King of Fighters" game?
mmmm hot japanese women.... i like it haha. im really excited for metal slug on xbl
World Heroes! Hopefully it's either World Heroes II or Perfect. The original and Jet aren't as good. ...and then there's Magician Lord...ugh. Still, I'm glad to see more SNK titles making it to the US via Xbox Live. It's perfect!
What the heck is gamespot talking about. Magician Lords, Fatal Fury and World Heroes has only been announced for the Virtual Console. Samurai Shodown 2 and Metal Slug 3 has been announced for XBLA. King of Fighters collection and Samurai Shodown collection has been announced for PS2, Wii, and PSP. Gamespot needs to get their story straight.
magician lord and metal slug are must haves....now wheres cyber lip and nam 75
"niptuckSean "...which will soon be released on Xbox Live. These titles include King of Fighters, Magician Lord, World Heroes, and Metal Slug Complete." YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!" Ah no they got it wrong. Metal Slug Complete is the Anthology for the PS2 and Wii. Japan hasn't had it released yet. Fatal Fury: King of Fighters, Magican Lord are for the Wii vc. They effed up plain and simple. The wii is also getting The King of Fighters Collection: The Orochi Saga and Samurai Shodown Anthology. http://www.snkplaymoreusa.com/pr-9-21-2007.php
I've got the same issue as Mush_Mouth - except I've got the opposite problem, that I found SNK fighters (well, the later, better ones), to have tighter controls, more endearing characters, and more interesting backstory (sometimes), than the capcom/namco fighters.
[This message was deleted at the request of the original poster]
My problem with the SNK fighters was mainly that I hated the controls. The controls seemed tighter in capcom/namco fighters, and these games always felt sort of loose. That and none of the characters really stood out to me at all.
okassar: So the billions of crummy fighting games during the snes/genesis era didn't make them tired? They've been tired, and then they've died, only now are they starting to make a return. There hasn't been a decent fighter since Soul Calibur 2. Tekken, DOA, etc are all rubbish fighters, the genre isn't tired, it's just flooded with junk.
I'm not ready for some more fighting games on any system, the genre isn't tired, but it's moving in that direction, like skating games.Another year would be good for more fighting games to come out,but at the moment, especially with all the amazing games coming out, they won't sell well.
Nii200: LOL That's rediculous. The movesets are completely different between the different street fighters. Sure, the signature moves are always there, but it wouldnt be as memorable without them. As for KOF 'updating' it's characters every iteration, thats rubbish, the only changes they've made since 2000 have been to the detriment of the series.
Hey, Benimaru's hawt. :D *Dries herself* :) It's good to see SNK Playmore bringing tons of stuff out. They seem to be hitting their stride again.
"...which will soon be released on Xbox Live. These titles include King of Fighters, Magician Lord, World Heroes, and Metal Slug Complete." YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!
Let's just be thankful there wasn't anybody cosplaying Benimaru :)
this is one lame update. oh well...
Sad to say, but Street Fighter is trailing when it comes to Fighting games. They are great games, dont get me wrong, but when you have the same moves since the day you came out, expect to be placed last. SNK on the other hand, actually updates their characters, not only by giving them different outfits, but by actually giving them different movesets. Sorry, but as it stands in fighting games SNK is on TOP with KOF and at the rate they're going, they will be on top for a while.
King of fighters is good, but unfortunately for SNK, they have never been a patch on Street Fighter.
Yes as I saw, it too said KOF A
"King of Fighters 4: Maximum Impact Regulation A" There's no 4 in the title, what the hell are you talking about?
