TGS 06: Meteos to puzzle PCs
Tetsuya Mizuguchi's hit DS game makes its way to Japanese PC as an online title; Meteos Online will be free, players purchase extra items.
TOKYO--Tetsuya Mizuguchi's Meteos is best known as one of the first titles he developed after leaving Sega and launching his own studio, Q Entertainment. Though it's already been well over a year since the game was released on Nintendo's DS, it looks as though it is getting a fresh pair of legs--the game is making its way to the PC.
At the 2006 Tokyo Game Show, major online-game provider NHN Japan announced that it is working with Q Entertainment on "Meteos Online." The game is scheduled to launch within the year in Japan, and will be downloadable through NHN Japan's game portal site, "Hangame."
Playing Meteos Online will be free; users will pay money for purchasing items. The game will allow up to six players to compete in several fashions, including two-on-two, three teams of two, three-on-three, and battle royale. The game will feature items not in the original DS version and animated gamers' avatars. There will also be various costumes and accessories for the avatars that will affect their animations.
Meteos Online will be exclusive to NHN Japan and Hangame for the first six months after launch. There weren't any official announcements regarding the game's distribution outside of Japan.
if it was released on american XBLA, I'd buy it, even though I have the DS version. Why? Because the game rocks, and I'd support it....not to mention, online multiplayer. :)
ooooooh yeah meteos is a killer game... too bad theres no wi fi in the DS version, im thinking stylus over mouse.
I wonder how this will turn out
I'm interested to see how well this game is recieved by the public. If it sells well then expect a slew of games to copy this format.
Cool.
it's perfect for DS's touch control. shoving micro-transactions and disney in there makes it far less unique and interesting.
hmmm, interesting news ... whatever's good works for me
micro-transactions... ugh.
Well, that's a good game, to be sure, but I don't like this "free unless you want bells and whistles" business model. It's why I don't play many free MMOs. Still, I'm tempted to pick up a used copy of Meteos so I can play it again...
whats it about i hope its fun cause i like puzzle games
cool
the should make a new meteos on the DS with Wi-Fi. that's what they should've done. and if they do, don't make it the Disney one.
cool! gonna get it whne it comes out!
Well let's hope that the new Disney themed Meteos for the DS is WiFi, as for Meteos on the PC I just don't see it as being as fun without the stylus.
Sounds very interesting....Too bad it's Japan only.
i hate paying money for this stuff
why didn't nintendo get a new one on the DS with Wi-Fi capabilities? i would've been playing that all day.
Glad Meteos is finally getting another go-around. It seemed all Tetsuya Mizuguchi was focusing on was Lumines. Even if it doesn't come to America officially we all know it'll get here some way or another.
Yay.
PC. Hmph. What about the next one for the DS?? It should be online, too!
Buying items? Ugh.
Meteos on DS is a bit better, methinks, given that you don't have to deal with Mouse Sensitivity and all that. It's a very fast-paced game.
It's a PC release, there will be a way to get it domestically, even if it has to be done "questionably".
Puzzling.
Who knows? It could happen.
Probably won't go outside of Japan. I'd rather Meteos on DS though...
