This game is so badass. I've played it, and have to totally disagree with most of your views. Sure, the graphics are bad (characters don't even move their mouths during in-game cutscenes), but the action is amazing. Also, keep in mind that this is a very, very old demo that came out a long time ago in Japan (I remember them covering it), and the new product looks much more promising. This demo is not the best one to put out. But the game will be awesome, and I'm getting it today. I had so much fun with the demo, I can't wait for the review!
Long-running medieval stealth-action series to debut on Xbox 360 June 12; demo hits Live tomorrow.
Last October, Microsoft and From Software released Tenchu Senran, the latest in K2's long line of ninja games, in Japan. Then, in January, Microsoft confirmed it would be brining the game to the Xbox 360 domestically, bearing the more Western-language-friendly title Tenchu Z.
Today, Microsoft sends word that the game has gone gold and is set for release June 12. The game's stealth kills and feudal assassinations earned it an M for Mature rating, and the game will retail for $59.99. Gamers who missed out on the Japanese Tenchu demo, released under Microsoft's Bringing It Home campaign during last year's Tokyo Game Show, will be happy to know a US-region demo will be available sometime tomorrow.
Featured in this latest installment in the long-running series are the ninja's tried-and-true bag of explosives and other accoutrements, as well as a new stealth-kill system, a new shadow-detection system, and a range of character-customization options. Online co-op play for two to four players will also be available over Xbox Live. For more, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
Being a fan a Tenchu since the beginning I was kinda torn on Z. I know one thing for sure, and that is that the graphics are absolutely atrocious. The stealth kills were extremely satisfying to watch and execute. The swordplay is lacking, and I've seen better AI in goombas. I liked the fact you can customize your character (although there weren't that many options). And for some reason the fact that you can finally sheath your sword piqued my intrest. Ah..all in all I'm gonna have to wait to get my mitts on the final product before I can pass judgement.
playing the demo I've come to the conclusion as an old school tenchu fan..the demo is horrible...it's like playing wrath of heaven but worse..*I loved wrath of heaven by the way* anyhow the enemy AI is weak, the stealth kills are nice I liked the unarmed ones, but graphics are horrid as well as the combat system being slow...
The demo was not fun. Combat was dull and repetitive, and don't say that combat isn't important, when your forced to face off one on one angainst some guy in a boat with only one attack button it IS important. It was all too easy; enemy AI sucked (which is a major flaw in stealth games), to get through the level without being noticed. All made for a rather unengaging experience.
Games are supposed to be one thing when it comes right down to it: fun. This demo was tons of fun, regardless of graphics. If you liked the original Tenchu games (for PS1) then this one shouldn't disappoint.
this just plain and simple is at best a mediocre game that doesn't warrant a 60$ price tag, ill pay it when its in the bargain bin
Pretty bad. I couldn't even get through the demo. Just not much there in the game for me to work with.
I think the graphics are pretty good, and considering it's only a demo so far, it hasn't even touched on the extremes for gameplay factor. I mean for a demo it seems like a pretty solid stealth game. It's all about fitting a niche, and I think with this games co-op mode it could make for a pretty entertaining game. Not to mention it'll definatly hone some skills. Plus, this game seems like it would be pretty easy to make add-ons/map packs. If your a person who has any attention in developing your stealth skills, this game seems like the proper choice. The demo does seem a little dry, but it does enough to envoke my enthusiasm considering the demo only seems like the boring intro level to any amazing videogame.
I played the game expecting it to be great, from all the hype....but it wasnt all that. the graphics is a huge part of the game, fan or not, This is the 360 were talking about, a next gen system. but thats just me, the game had 2 much hype.
Yea I agree with the others on this...if you dont understand what makes Tenchu fun..then you wont enjoy this game..and fyi..its not graphics. If you ARE a fan of the series I will say this is the most fun I have had in a Tenchu since the ps1 days. Its a must buy for fans...a "rent and try" for everyone else IMO...also Tencu WAS the 1st 3D stealth game not MGS..tenchu beat MGS by a few months
Hmm... I don't know why I am thinking of Starcraft: Ghost right now. This is the year 2007, but this game doesn't have the 2007 graphics. I know the graphics in the game are not the most important thing, but it is also difficult to just ignore the poor graphics. Every time, we always want to get better performance. Manufacturers are making new products, so that every year we can enjoy different experiences from games and whatever. So, I know i'm only looking at the graphics. However, if you guys don't care about the graphics, just pick up your ancient baby Gameboy or something and enjoy your life. That's why you have no reasons to get Xbox 360.
I played the demo as well. First off, the pause menu is crap, it doesn't even let you look at the controls. The graphics are pretty bad. They didn't include online co-op which is stupid due to the fact that there is only one level which is a bad example. So far this is a rent-it-and-get-tired-of-it-in-a-couple-hours type of game.
Can't wait for game to release. Graphics don't do anything outstanding but they are not as bad as everyone wants to make you believe. Looks like the customization on Z is going to rock too. Oh and i would just like to point out that if you never understood why Tenchu games are fun (for those crying about the graphics), i don't expect you to start now.
Another mediocre stealth game. I'm not to impressed by the demo, but what the hell do I know? And donmega1, you're the reason racism exists . You fail at life.
....All im gonna say is wow! Some people are really really stupid! If you actually looked at the game website it shows that in the real game you get to get to put the outfits on your ninja yourself and not have pre determined sets of clothing. They did that because it was a DEMO
donmega...uhm you create the character..so it's not some "white" man you reversed racist buffoon. Also the lead Character Rikimaru is japanese in fact the whole game is Japanese..think before you speak.
Could be cool...graphics are terrible though (I don't care too much about that, but still, they're really bad).
The Demo is mad bad the fighting engine is horrible!! the graphics are some of if not the worst ive seen on a 360 the a.i is ridiculously dumb the stealth kills are repetive the customization is barley there it doesnt have physics & hitting your enemies is hard ..its just a really bad game i dont know what the damn developers think when they put this thrash out !!!! most of them are a bunch of lazy idiots & should spend an extra year or 2 fixing these kinds of games up....
I DLed the demo and i had quite alot of fun i dont know if its becuase im in to ninjas but the game looks good in my book
the game is actually quite nice. i dl the demo and found that the customizing could've been better. Other than that, it felt sooo much like the original we all know and love on the ps1. Co-op play may make the game just that much better.
The first PS1 JPN version of tenchu 1 was awesome, and the remix was even better Tenchu 2, 3 and the spin offs have been generic and bad. The original developers Acquire left long ago.. the series is on life support
Well i just downloaded the demo and had a lenghty play of it, the result is that it sucks quite a bit. Even with some features purposefully removed (character customisation stuff), the initial gameplay and combat system is very poor...i hope it turns out differently for the actual release, otherwise this will be a rental at best.
I don't know why so many people dislike Wrath of Heaven. it won many awards and got very high reviews...sure the games after sucked but Wrath of Heaven was tenchu's last good game. Since they were aquired by From Software and Sega and the original team from Aquire and K2 ent. left however Tenchu has considerably lost it's quality I've heard from friends in Japan that this game is absolutely horrible. I'll wait until the review comes out before I decide to spend money on it considering I loved and own the series on PS1 and PS2. Activision and Sony *who helped Develop the first one* put a lot of care and "love" into the first 3 games of the series.
EGM gave tenchu an early review without a score, and said it was basically mediocre, the same as the previous installments
Am I the only one that thought this game was really average? I suppose I AM more of a Ninja Gaiden fan. Co-op will probably be awesome though!
This Game is sweet finally a good sword fighting game for the xbox360 i loved the other Tenchu games and the Tenchu Z demo was just great cant wait for the full version to come out NINJA!!! and i like the part that it does let you create your own character not much because its a demo but enough that i loved it.
For those who played the demo, did it include anything involving the character creation? That's the best addition Tenchu could have made.
ye does anyone know whether its coming out in the uk the same date or is that still june 29th? can u send me a message if u know cos it saves finding this article again i played the japanese demo already and it is actually amazin to let you know itll be nice to understand the menu and cutscenes to though lol
I played the Jap demo, They've improved the engine alot, Though the characters models aren't all that impressive IMO.
already played the demo a long long time ago,the game is funonly if u have nothing else to do, graphics arent that "good" but there "ok", the demo was super easy all u have 2 do is hit some1 in the water (even the boss) and u will win (which is stupid cuz u can go in the water but not die but if they go in they die)
Anyone know if the demo is going to have a multiplayer component or is it just a small chunk of the single player experience?
Can't wait for the demo tomorrow. Hopefully I find it fun and good to play. Been hearing about a lot of negative things about this game :(
LMAO at co-op play when someone screwed up and dropped a bee hive in the middle of the team in the heat of fight.
