actually the fight scenes were decent. all or most were train martial artist. they need a bigger budget and better writers.
Prachya Pinkaew to direct Tekken: Rise of the Tournament with an eye toward domestic theatrical release, will cast unknown actors instead of stars.
The Tekken live-action feature film is getting a follow-up from one of the most acclaimed martial arts movie makers of the past decade. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ong Bak director Prachya Pinkaew has signed on to helm Tekken: Rise of the Tournament.
Rise of the Tournament will be a prequel to the 2010 live-action film Tekken, which starred Jon Foo as Jin Kazuya and recapped his entry into the franchise's ongoing Mishima family feud. While the report mentioned no casting decisions, it did say the film will be eschewing stars in favor of actors who more closely resemble their in-game counterparts.
Production company Crystal Sky Pictures is hoping a get a domestic theatrical release for the film this time around, but nothing has been finalized yet. There is also no word on a script or release date for the project.
The first one sucked and this one will too.Unless Tony Jaa is gonna be The Fight Choreographer they should just leave it the hell alone.Just the fact that the DOA Movie was better pretty much says it all.
I repeat Pinkaew had no say in the ong bak fights, Tony Jaa was responsible for them all. So unless tony jaa is responsible for the fight scense please dont do it.
And even if Tony jaa choreography the fights in the movie like he did for ong bak, I wouldn?t want his name even attached to any game based fighter turned movie cause they all windup sucking.
I think it draw been the tekken movie and the DOA movie on which was worse. come to think of it the both sucked ass both should of never seen the light of day.
Now as for the this director, I love the guy hell i loved the ong bak movies. Tho Pinkaew had no say in any of the fighting in those movies, That was all Tony Jaa, and Tony Jaa put Jackie Chan,Jet Li And all the other to shame.
But ya for the love god please dont make another tekken movie, or hell and game based fighter into a movies as they all SUCKED
All I can say is, Prachya Pinkaew, do your best. Make the Tekken fans proud, because the first live-action movie was a disaster.
Honestly, I feel the Tomb Raider franchise is the only films that felt like the video game series. The only way you can possibly make a film series based upon a video game is to take Halo, God of War and Metal Gear Solid and turn them into films. And maybe Splinter Cell. Or Ghost Recon or Call of Duty. You have to take something Hollywood usually depicts otherwise there is no way anyone should attempt to make a Gex movie or Rayman or anything unless it's CGI based.
I confess I haven't seen the first one so.....I do like the idea of looking for a cast that resemble the characters though!
We can apparently see how many people here did not watch Ong Bak. This may be the greatest thing to ever happen. Tekken is one of the best fighting games around, and Ong Bak is easily in my top 10 movies ever made. Ong Bak is on Netflix, go watch it.
When are these idiots going to learn that video games do not make good movies and vise versa? There is a REASON I do not go to the movies more than a few times a year.
Here's a project, straight on the heels of Battleship: Farmville - the Movie! And for just $20.00, you too can have a paper cow on a stick.
Seeing as how the first one didn't even make a million dollars WORLDWIDE, one can clearly see the demand for a sequal.
Yeah, you know, if there are people willing to actually spend money producing dreck like this, I have a lot of beachfront property in Arizona that's I'd be willing to part with at a very resonable rate.
The Tekken game looks different now. Did they just reduce the cg power or has it always been like this?
Why not make Tekken CG's? save money and 100X Better than anything a Directorthink he's doing right. lol
A TEKKEN movie should be 3D animation that is equal or better than the intro and the ending movies of the game quality, with all -or at least- most of the characters involved, and to hell with the script and the story line, just give the iron-fist addicts the fierce fights with the original fighting moves they expect... and I can swear that any addicted TEKKEN player can be the director.
I just don't understand why anyone would want to watch a Tekken movie. I mean, the story/character backgrounds have always sucked in Tekken, so why would anyone even be interested? I'd rather just play some Tekken than watch a terrible interpretation of a terrible narrative.
Please just leave Tekken alone... I dont care who's directing it, writing it, choreographing it, just stop it.
I'm actually somewhat excited, if its the Ong Bak director then at least the action scenes will be good, though it may still be a terrible 'tekken' movie
if you haven't seen Ong Bak yet then you should watch it, It was a sick action film. I may actually watch this.
Why not do an animated film? then they'd be able to keep the look of the character and they could focus on the story......because people want to see the moves for real.....
Right, and that's why the first MK is still bashed to this day.....
Sonya did her leg grab, Sub Zero froze people, Scorpion had his "get over here!" spear and teleport, Johnny Kage kinda did his shadow kick, Liu Kang did his fireball at the end, Goro.....well he did his thing and Shang Tsung did his morphing thing and it had a good story....
Tekken had a horrible story, about as bad as Street Fighter but nothing comes close to Jean Claude Van Damm and Raul Julia doing their thing......
Even Tekken's creator didn't like the movie......
Just saying....didn't mean to go overboard.....
Ong bak was so awesome. remember the scene where those thugs are shooting at him near those gas cans? They explode, then Ong bak comes flying out of there ON FIRE and kicks that guy in head. Holy **** man, boku bada$$.
@redskinStu do you even know what ong bak means or what the entire movie was about? because what you said sounds funny in a very unintentional way.
The only thing I liked about this movie was the chick that played christy... she's FREAKIN HOTT! The whole movie.. ehh..
Prachya Pinkaew making a Tekken movie? Sweet! I love his movies.
I wonder if any of the other Ong Bak team is involved.
plz take off the anna and ninna pornstars image that was awful its like watching really lame porn and i have to even pay to see this movie???? gee they can have their own way of getting into the toournament without spreading their legs really take that off in the trailer it suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked!!!!
A good live action tekken movie can totally be done, the director and scripwriters just need to remember it has to be a martial arts movie were the quality of the choreography and variety of the styles are priority.
@Legend002 lol why would tony jaa play jin in the first place? last i heard from him he left acting and he's completely different in appareance and style, just like jon jones, who is black and trained in specific mma style.
Jin should be played by true karate masters or students, like in the terrific film Black Belt, actually actors from that film would be excellent.
Tony jaa could only act as bruce in tekken
