Tekken online collectible card game launching this year

Namco Bandai's latest spin-off of fighting game will be free-to-play on mobile devices and browsers; no specific OS specified.

Namco Bandai has announced that it will be releasing an online card game based on the Tekken franchise.

Titled Tekken Card Tournament, the game will be distributed in two phases. First, it will be out as a free-to-play online card battle game "in the next few weeks" for mobile devices like smartphones and tablets, as well as for browsers. The company did not specify the mobile platforms at this point in time.

This will be followed by a physical version complete with booster packs that will be out later this year. The purchased cards can be used on the free-to-play version. Each card has a QR code that can be scanned into the game; either as an additional fighter or an upgrade for existing brawlers in a player's deck.

If it is a solid card game, then great.  Hopefully the netcode is good, as well.  You don't want a good card game to be hindered by terrible, TERRIBLE netcode.  I won't name names, but the Uncharted card game is almost unplayable online.

No not again, get to "play it for free" yeah right, same with Yu-Gi-Oh online trading card game, you can play few battles for free and get some cards for free, after that you have to buy boosters to get the QR code for being able to battle. Basically if you don't pay the real deal you don't get to play the free deal.

Colour me interested. Not a huge Tekken fan, but I love collecting things..

@Tripwolf  most card games are... I greatly dislike pay-to-win MMO's. We shall see where this goes..

Why is it that the smaller developers/publishers on IOS are the ones releasing gorgeous games that rival console games graphics wise, but the big publishers like EA often release ugly, dated looking games when they have infinitely more resources? I know Namco isn't a huge publisher or anything, but I've seen better looking games on a PS1.

Make the cards available for freebie like in cereal boxes and it's a GREAT IDEA!
