they really need to educate kids on this in school... but come on... does 15 year old have common sense on this matter.... maybe 10 is excusable...

I love how people will try to blame gaming for this.  Also, props to the doctor for exercising enough restraint to not just tell the mother that her son is an idiot.

omg... so many comments.. 1. why should activision comment on it? beside being polite i guess; i' m sorry but am i missing something? if i sell bananas and some idiotic with renal failure at baseline decide to eat a whole basket of them and end up with arrythmias... is his lack of common sense, or lack of information by his doctor (which I REALLY doubt a doctor, especially a nephrologist -being a doctor myself- will make such stupid mistake) note: this will rarely happen, just to put an easy sample. 2. wth!?!?! is worng with mothers this days!?!?! 1st the kid has no common sense, and then the mother!?!?! NO!!! the same way we cant say he die because of no eating/drinking in a gaming marathon. Can we say that the last is very unlikely? yes. Unless he had underlying disease, that prevent him from ketosis, could not concentrate urine and another hundred other stuff. In top of everything, if you die bc of no eating or drinking you will 1st come dehydrated, confussed, lethargic... and so on until you die... and for what i read about it in a kotaku article the guy was still sitting!!! sitting holding the keyboard!!! Could he have die of an arrhythmia because electrolutes imbalance due to lack of fluids? yes, but again bring me to underlying disease (which is possible) - the 18yo likely had a baseline underliying disease, that precipated this (of course i cant assure that, is a speculation, just less ridiculous that the premise, because i have not examine or seeing an autopsy) What happen to the kid on this article is the likely course, even if he would have not pay attention to s/s, he would have come confussed at some point -far point- .... and finally collapse (would like to think the mother would have notice the change in behavioral, assuming the kid is still ignoring feeling THAT bad) That said, im not saying that if you are a young adult you should be ok doing this. In an ideal world, everyone will know that IV drug abuse give you hep c, hiv, endocarditis; that alcohol damage you in an infinitive different ways, that cocaine can produce sudden death in young adults without heart problem because a MI, and that YOU SHOULD NOT DO ANYTHING WITHOUT STOPING TO EAT AND DRINK, .... well id say bad parenting but this kids liks 15  any one at least 15 should know better to feed them selfs  let alone get a cup of water

The only comment i could ever see Activision possibly making, would be in relation to the fact that the 15 year old in question was playing a game that held an age restriction of 16, therefore he should'nt have even been playing it in the first place.

As pointed out by a poster below, i totally overlooked the age rating issue.

Why would they? What has this got to do with them? They only made the game, they're not responsible for how children abuse themselves - that would be the job of the parents.

15 is high school age right? i mean damn when i was in high school (which wasnt that long ago) something like this would be fatal to a persons rep. He will never live it down.

If I was going to almost die from playing a game, it wouldn't be this. I would rather die playing something good.

wow, textbook example of an unfit parent.first off, CoD is rated 'M - 18+' kid shouldnt have even been playing it.secondly, who the hell would let their kid stay locked in their room for 4 days straight?!  guess giving your kid an xbox and allowing him self-imposed exile is easier than actually parenting... 

I kinda Just wonder why his parents didn't you know.. do there job as a parent and make sure the kid was eating and drinking properly... also the kid is an Idiot.. Even when i was bloody 8 i knew better then to do a game marathon without making sure i kept myself fed and hydrated

Its amusing to hear about people dying or being malnourished when they do a weekender/binge on a video game.  I use to binge as much or more than these victim back in the days of Atari 2600, NES, Genesis and Quake 2 or 3.

First The Diablo Guy now this seriously are people that addicted to the game to where you can't feel yourself getting hungry or thirsty this is a new level of stupid! Think about it after you finish a match you have to wait for the game to sync up, find people, load the round that's like 50sec to a minute and I am sure his body told him he was hungry or thirsty! and I don't know about you guys but after about 3-4 hours 5 tops my eyes and head starts to hurt! MY LIFE > COD... For that guy MY Life < COD sad -_-
