Wow thats pretty interesting news, I wonder why tecmo decided to take koei up on their offer instead of square well anyways way to go koei I'm glad to see one of my fav companies partnering up with another good company.
Business combination valued at $207 million sees Dynasty Warriors publisher to take three-quarters ownership stake in new holding company.
In contrast to EA's unfruitful months-long takeover attempt of rival Take-Two, Koei's courtship of Japanese rival Tecmo was a whirlwind romance. Not two weeks after Tecmo head Yoshimi Yasuda followed Tecmo brain Tomonobu Itagaki out the door, the Ninja Gaiden maker turned down a friendly buyout offer from Square Enix, saying that it was instead in merger talks with Dynasty Warriors purveyors Koei.
A month later, and Tecmo and Koei had agreed in principal to form a holding company that would merge the two game companies' businesses. Today, the Reuters news service reports that Tecmo and Koei have announced more definitive plans for their business combination, which is expected to close by April 2009.
As part of the deal, Tecmo shareholders will be offered nine-tenths of a share in Tecmo Koei Holdings for each share they currently own in the independent gamemaker. Koei stock owners will have one share added to each share they currently own, which translates to the gamemaker's shareholders owning three-quarters of the new company. Reuters reports the deal is valued at ¥20 billion ($207 million).
Reuters reports that Tecmo Koei Holdings is targeting operating profits in excess of ¥16 billion ($166 million) on revenues of ¥70 billion ($725 million) by the fiscal year ending March 2012.
great work Tomonobu Itagaki we wait for ninja gaiden 2 black or ninja gaiden 3 we love this saga one of the best of history
wow i cant remember the last time i played a DW game but anyway while its defintely not the best game out there but its fun to play at times(this is another one of those i call rainy day games lol). and it has multi-player which is a plus for many ppl. ......................... its a beat em up game so wat do ppl expect from it, do u want a long compelling story like in rpgs, do u want it to have the timed button press sequences(like RE4), the awe inspiring cut scenes ppl go on about in some games....it has all the elements that a game in the genre shold have(ok maybe not all and ye it still has its flaws) but take it for what it is a beat em up.........if tecmo can spice it up a little it would go a looooooonnnnnnngggg way fot the DW series though, if not then i doubt it matters b/c the ppl that continue to buy it dont expect too much to be different anyway lol
The Dynasty Warrior franchise needs a boost... Maybe tecmo has the brains to add so content. We'll see...
Gaah I wish my english was abit better... it was kinda hard for me to understand this. Okay so lemme explain how I got it; Koei and Tecmo wanted to co-up, and they are currently doing that, but they will end it in April? Ammirite?
Hmm I'd like to see more improvement in the dynasty warriors series... It was good, the improvement from tim to time was only cosmetics... I hope this merger will be good for both Tecmo and Koei games improvements...
a doa themed dynasty warriors is sounding pretty good. play as the the cast to take on the corp. that's been at the heart of every game? (hint hint). and to answer nercon i thought 99 nights on xbox 360 was a little better then the regular d.warriors games with the exception of the gundam edition dynasty warriors.
I actually like Dynasty Warriors! :( I know they rehash it a lot (and in certain ways it's actually getting worst, the best one was 3) but I just love the series. I'm addicted to it. There have even been a few rip offs like Devil Kings but I think they get away with rehashing because there are not much other games like it. Name me 10 games like Dynasty Warriors were you fight along aside your army, dominate enemies on horse (or any mount you can fight on), And collect special weapons and items with unique power ups? That are all better than Dynasty Warriors? Sure, you can name 1 or 2... but you can't name 10 because there aren't that many games like that period!
Lets put this into perspective, Tecmo only have two notable games. Dead or Alive & Ninja Gaiden, and now the man behind them as left Tecmo. Koei has Dynasty Warriors, not the best game in the world to say the least! So in short this is good news how? 1) More Dynasty Warriors YAY! to pay for development of NG & DOA. 2) So many DOA & NG sequle's people no longer can be botherd with them. Great News *rolls eyes*
Awww its not so bad, at least now you can expect annual installments of Ninja gaiden and DOA along with the dynasty warriors updgrades. looks for awesome improvments similar ot the abiltity to climb ladders in DW6
Hope Tecmo have more control over this merger than Koei... Koeis games are all the... same. Tecmo have much more compelling games.
@ TranClan "I'd rather have Tecmo merge with Square Enix than Koei" Err. Square Enix did not make an offer to merge with Tecmo, it was an offer to buy them out. The deal with Koei, that is a merger. I'm sure Tecmo rejected Square Enix's deal because they wanted some control over their own company.
koei merging with tecmo at an advantage?? I thought tecmo was doing better than koei, i mean koei makes crappy games and lives off dynasty warriors. Tecmo has much more to offer in NG, DOA and fatal frame.
wow what a S*** company Tecmo is.... i guess there is no point of looking forward to a new DoA or a new Ninga Gaiden.. or maybe there is they can make a new game for them every 2 months and just add a few hundred more characters to the screen while playing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@ Guzthon: Those are only the distributors and producers, there are still plenty of developer only companies I guess this means DOA + Ninja Gaiden might be going multiplat, imagine Ninja Gaiden on the Wii
List of the companies merged: - Sega + Sammy. - Square Soft + Enix = Square Enix. - Namco + Bandai = Namco Bandai Games. - Tecomo + Koei. Looks like japanese companies are starting to shrink (less than 10). - Nintendo. - Sony. - Sega. - Square Enix. - SNK Playmore. - Capcom. - Konami. - Namco Bandai Games. - Tecmo/Koei.
karateyoyo square offered a TAKEOVER, not a merger. means square buys them and replaces/lays off whoever they want. but if theres a koei game you want square enix to make, it is still possible, for they can still go bankrupt during the depression.
next thing u know it.... the next samurai warriors/dynasty warriors game featuring ryu hayabusa as a unlockable no doubt hehe
Tecmo/Koei, im begging you, we need another Ninja Gaiden for PS3, but not a remake of Ninja Gaiden 2 even though that would be good too, but PS3 needs their own original game like you gave xbox360
I just found this out as I saw this article. I guess this should be interesting. I have played some enjoyable games from both companies.
This wouldn't have happened if they gave that one dude his dues, but this merger should be pretty nice.
y do some of u think when companies come together so do games O.O its jus gna be new games and same games noones making ninja gaiden into dynasty warriors.....
I'm really gonna' miss DOA and Ninja Gaiden... well, the original Ninja Gaiden... it saddens me to think that the next Ninja Gaiden may be tainted with the garbage that is Dynasty Warriors. It also saddens me deeply that one of the better fighting games out there is basically dead now. I'm so tired of Soul Calibur and Tekken, and Virtua Fighter just plain sucks... hope some other developer comes around to make a good fighting game, because I can't stand SC or Tekken... I hates them.
I think Square would be a better fit for Tecmo. To be honest, the only games I know Koei for are the Dynasty/Samurai Warrior games. These games aren't of the highest quality, which Tecmo is known for.
I don't want to see new Dynasty Warriors games combined with the quality of Ninja Gaiden games, i want to see new Ninja Gaiden and DOA games on the PlayStation 3, i believe that we will see Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 pretty soon...i hope.
Well, I am really not interested in the character mix Sheik Yerbouti mentioned, but the idea of a NG or DOA game with a coherent story sounds appealing to me. I don't care about Square Enix or Koei shareholds mumbo-jumbo, although I think Tecmo should have accepted the SE offer... whatever. Gosh, there is a lot of great Japanese companies out there and they had to choose Koei. Well, enough ranting, let's get to the point. They should just get Itagaki back and make DOA5 and a new Ninja Gaiden right away. In case they didn't hear, RIGHT AWAY. I'm sure they heard me this time. ^^ And please don't make more jokes about Dynasty Warriors Gaiden, gives me the creeps just to think about it.
Zing! Imagine a Dynasty Warriors game with Ninja Gaiden quality gameplay. I'm glad that it's not only the behemot companies who buys the smaller ones.
Yea...As much as i think merger has merit if i were tecmo i would've found another developer to partner with. not that kopei is a bad company or anything but the only franchises they live on is the Dynasty warriors and warriors orochi series and whatever other games koei's made in the past!! But i would both tecmo and koei luck and hope they can work well together.
