High preorder numbers due to numerous cross promotions.
While the fanfare for Namco Bandai's "Tales of" series isn't really big in North America, it's a strong series in Japan that is just a notch below Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy in terms of popularity. The company recently announced that the next game in the series, Tales of Xillia, crossed the 500,000 mark in shipments all throughout Japan.
Namco Bandai stated that the reason for the figures is the series' 15th anniversary as well as the company's collaboration efforts with singer Ayumi Hamasaki (for the game's theme song) and amusement park Namco Namja Town (for Tales of Xillia-themed merchandise). On a related note, series producer Makoto Yoshizumi previously confirmed on Twitter last month that the PS3 title is the most preordered Tales game ever two weeks before its release. Back in July, the game had 80,000 copies on preorder.
The last role-playing franchise entry, the PS3 version of Tales of Graces, sold 345,000 units in 2010. Back in 2008, Tales of Vesperia sold 210,000 units on the Xbox 360, while in 2009 it sold 420,000 units on the PS3. For more information on Tales of Xillia, check out GameSpot's recent coverage.
This is horsesh*t. When do we get some of the newer tales games (more specifically, on nintendo systems) in the states? I think they've put out like 3 or 4 tales games on the DS and not one has reached the US. Tales of Phantasia was one of the best snes games I've ever played, almost on par with Chrono Trigger. Symphonia was pretty tight too. It just doesn't make any sense. It's like they assume if a game doesn't sell a million copies, it's unsuccessful and nobody wants it.
Very impressive numbers:) Hope this will encourage Namdai to give this game a chance in Europe and NA.
This is actually very, very good for a game just released in JP. I don't believe MGS4 even sold that much there that quickly.
To everyone who wants Xillia over here, make sure to BUY Graces F on PS3 when it launches early 2012.
It's really sad that the Tails series is not huge in the US, there hasn't been a single one that I did not love.
Hopefully it won't take Namco two years to get it over here. STILL waiting for Tales of Graces f and Tales of Vesperia. >_>
Tales of Xillia looks gorgeous, since Namco is planning to send Tales of Graces to the West, they might as well do the same for this.

@Cheddarchet First and foremost to correct you, Tales of Graces F the PS remake does not sound like it is coming, it is coming for sure. This was announced back in February. Second, you are missing a few titles....there are numerous remakes and spinoffs that we did not get here, including the Tales of the World Spin offs, we only got the original here. Also, as for main games you are correct with Tales of Hearts, we never got that, But you there are three other tales games in the main series in anyway shape or form we never got. Those other three are Tales of Destiny 2(The one we got was tales of eternia renamed for copyright reasons), Tales of Rebirth, Tales of Innocence. Those are the ones we never along with Heart. Graces does not count since Namco officially announced that it is coming to the States.
Love jrpgs the only problem is that since most people dont bother with them, the developers decide not to even bother with the english versions which sucks for most people.

@CMakaCreative: There've been a couple that have never made it here. Tales of Hearts for the DS, Tales of Graces for the Wii (though it sounds like the remake for the PS3 will come), and another flagship title on the DS were never brought over (can't remember the name of the other one). So, we actually have a fairly decent shot at getting this. Out of the mainstay titles, I think we've gotten at least 8 of them in some form or another. Anyway, my fingers are crossed! I'm really digging the darker atmosphere this title seems to hold compared to the others. Still, it'd have to work pretty hard to top Tales of Symphonia in my mind. :P
I will import this since I love Tales, but I hope it does come to the states so we can all enjoy it.
This game probably will not came this way... Really sad to have mostly shooters as games. Love the Tales Series and I don't read/speak the japanese language...
I was hoping they localized Tales of Vesperia for the PS3 but that never happened. They better localize Xillia on either 360 or PS3. What main Tales game (outside or remakes) has not been released outside of Japan?

Unfortunatelly they'll probably not release this on west, because when they do it with non-Square franchises they don't go well. But i'd like to see it some day too.
