Review aggregator finds Red Dead Redemption, Super Mario Galaxy 2 makers top major labels in gaming for last year; Capcom, Microsoft, EA, Activision also in top 10.
This week, review aggregator Metacritic released its list of highest rated major publishers of 2010. The list was chosen from a field of publishers, which released 15 or more titles this year, and ranked based on four factors. A final score was tallied with a point system that considered the average Metascore of all products released in 2010, the percentage of products with good reviews (Metascore of 75 or higher), percentage of products with bad reviews (Metascore 49 or lower), and number of great titles (Metascore 90 or higher).
As a result of this process, the publisher with the top ranking was Take-Two Interactive, which had an average Metascore of 77.1. The high score was thanks to such hits as Red Dead Redemption (95 Metascore) and Sid Meier's Civilization V (90). The publisher's worst-reviewed title was Major League Baseball 2K10, which earned a Metascore of just 52.
In second place was Nintendo with a 76.1 average Metascore. Its best-reviewed title was Super Mario Galaxy 2 (97) and worst was Aquaspace (48). In third was Capcom with an average Metascore of 74.5; its top title was Super Street Fighter IV (92) and worst was Dark Void (57). Fourth place went to Microsoft (73.4 Metascore), and fifth went to Electronic Arts (72.6 Metascore).

While Nintendo in many ways has succumbed to corporate culture, they still have some of the most talented video game developers in the world. And Kudos to Take-Two, I wish it was bigger (and EA and Activision smaller).
@isaacmj: true and I agree but I hate how many crappy sites are included that just lie sometimes. I read one review from one developer saying halo reach did nothing new to other halo's. Say what? Did they even play the game halfway through to see the space flight mission? The online firefight, the covenant in multiplayer and while armour abilities are kind of like the old equipment they were at least different (some) like jet packs. I'd trust metacritic more if they got rid of the sites no one has ever heard of that have no integrity and ruin metacritic for me.
If i where to pick a fav out of the big 3 its MS if I where to pick a least its Nintindo. I'd say I'd belong to Microsoft... so Kudos Nintindo you beat us fair n square. @ Glade_Gnarr I too wish someone other than nintindo made good nintindo games... its why i wish the company would drop its system making all together and go 3rd party software like SEGA
Nintendo is by far my favorite developer, too bad they make the only wii games worth playing.
@ash162 Metacritic is very transparent with their methods. Justo go to the website and check yourself. It's just a bunch of averages from reviews.

Sony would have been a lot better if move based titles/games had been better.. I love sony for investing in great games and awesome studios..
This is a pretty flawed system. Sony had a great year with big hits like GoW3, Heavy Rain, GT5, etc, but the shovelware heavy Move launch dragged them down. Which is odd, as the Kinect launch was actually more shovelware packed and Microsoft had a pretty weak first party showing throughout 2010, so I don't get how this works. Too many troll reviews from places like Destructoid and Game Central skewing the numbers? Either way, this is pretty meaningless.
Toysoldier.. did you even play mario sportsmix. They didn't even mention the Online in the review. Nor did they mention that the game has a LOT MORE strategy than they cared to mention. If you play, you can get to much harder levels and the AI is not so stupid. Then again, I guess it takes effort to actually play a game.
Nintendo would have been first if they didn't release their low end crap games like that Mario Sports Mix.
@Nintendo_Ownes7 True, but Nintendo's highest scoring game beat Take-Two's highest scoring game, albeit by only 2 points versus 4.
Then again, many 90's were given for games that gamer's didn't rate that highly so it is not what I would call reliable data. I'll bet if the score was based on user scores the list would look different.

Sega was pretty low. They need more Bayonetta. As a side note they need to make her look less like Sarah Palin.
Sony was hurt by weakly reviewed Move games. Other than that their year was pretty limited in terms of content. Nintendo on the other hand had a great year.
