Take-Two addresses Agent absence

Rockstar Games parent company Take-Two has addressed the progress of its long-in-development and mysterious action game Agent. Speaking during a post-earnings-announcement call recently, Take-Two chairman and chief executive Strauss Zelnick said, "We haven't announced anything about [Agent] yet."
Last summer, the first images of Agent (right) surfaced, courtesy of a Rockstar North environment artist. The visualizations showed a single character and indoor environments from the game, but nothing else.
Agent is a PlayStation 3-exclusive espionage title set in the 1970s. It was first revealed in 2007 and later detailed at the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo.
When the game does ship, it will do so with high expectations. In 2009, Take-Two president Ben Feder told GameSpot that Agent is being groomed to be the next Grand Theft Auto.
"It's the A team working on an AAA title," he said. "I think the subject matter, the characters, the story, the environment, the background--all the elements are there. It's such a rich environment to play in."

what is meant by check gamespot's previous coverage ? all we've been looking at are 4 little clips from the inside of a mansion or whatever it is ? just why is everything so secret ? why I would like to know , just why ? R* is close if not my #1 developer that I am very interested in and they just don't care about me ? why don't they care about me ? just why ?
They're running out of time if this is to be released on PS3 with next gen rumoured for next year.
Knowing full well the PS3 will be around post next gen launch of course, but it seems kind of pointless to when there's new tech to develop with.
1 Like It will probably be delayed and developed for next gen systems. Unless the game is almost completely finished and they're just keeping it a secret, they don't really have a choice.
2 Like Next GTA? Maybe it will be something like a GTA set in the 70's time period. That would be pretty nice.
omg...just let us know if its in development for christ sakes. is it going to come out on the ps3, did it turn multi plat, but at least acknowledge its existence....
If this is nothing short of a masterpiece, take two are gunna cop it hard. I am certain though it should be a great game.
8 Like Rockstar is so mum on their projects, yet I love it. I really don't like to hear everything about a game in the year or two leading up to it. I like surprises and unpredictibility. The predictibility part has made me like movies less and less.

I remember a ps3 mmo that involved you playing a secret agent or something, thought it was cancelled.
1 Like Yep that was another game The Agency ,SoE were developing, was cancelled jobs lost etc etc. Had promise ,is a shame.

1 Like Why do people always assume a game is cancelled when theres no news on it for a while, especially with a Rockstar game? Just because theres been no word doesn't mean people aren't still workin on it. Agent is goin to be great like everything else Rockstar has done.

They should start working on an XBox 720 exclusive for next year announcement. i care more about GTA V and RDR2 then anything else Rockstar is making right now.
I kind of want a new RDR game when GTA V is finished. Maybe called "Red Dead Revival" or something? I don't know, I just want another game of that quality.
@kkushalbeatzz Red dead rebellion is the title according to the interwebz. Main characters name is reported as being 'big jesse'. I hope thats not right lol
It is the only game I am dying to know more! I hope it is still exclusive and leverages the power and quality of an exclusive title.

@pszone There are a few things wrong with your post. First is who you are addressing, second is how can you choose only one out of two possible Rockstar games, and third..we all know what's the third.
I thought this had been cancelled it's been so quiet, I hope it doesn't end up being another Duke Nukem Forever bull crap.
Saying it's gonna be the next Grand Theft Auto sounds brilliant but I really doubt it, hope I'm wrong because it would be cool =)
1 Like I was wondering about this game just a few minutes ago. I can't decide if the game is vaporware, or if it's going to be so great that R* is waiting for a grand reveal. If it isn't officially "dead" yet, I'm going to assume it's option #2.

1 Like The game must have been in the early stages of development to be announced in 2007. By 2009 they should have had nearly all planning done and actual coding should have been started. It's now been 5 years since the announcement and we are coming to the end of this generation of gaming consoles.
With all the new IPs being announced for next-gen, I am beginning to think that, maybe, R* is going to release Agent as a next-gen launch title. If I was Sony, I would be trying to set that as a goal. It could be a potential system seller as an exclusive for the PS4. Especially if it lives up to the hype.
1 Like @Hvac0120 If it took them two years to begin coding then Rockstar is a failure as a developer. They make great games but their ability to actually ship a game on time seems pretty non-existent. Take Two cares a lot about quality which is great, but they also need to work on getting their games out on time. I don't think Rockstar has released a game on schedule this entire generation. Kudos to them for being perfectionists and all, but they need to wait to announce a game until they actually think they can release it within a year's time.
1 Like Remember when Rockstar used to put out multiple games in a short amount of time?? GTA, Bully, Manhunt, Midnight Club, Smugglers Run and the failed State Of Emergency, all of these came out within the same generation and they did a ton last gen but this gen we are lucky to get one title every other year let alone new IP's like Agent. Maybe they're afraid of failure like State Of Emergency IDK, all I know is I haven't liked anything they've done this gen.....
Rockstar is one of the better developers out there so I'm not trying to bag on 'em but that's how I feel.

1 Like @ishasan00 Yeah I played GTA4 and RDR but didn't care for them, my thing is they keep throwing too many barriers to go through just to get to the end game. I don't mind doing the extra stuff and odds are I'll do some of it but I just want to see what the story is my first time through a game, my second time is when I really do more of the side stuff....
I don't like being forced into races in the middle of a campaign or into some corner I wasn't interested in or into doing stuff that makes me question why I'm playing.
I had no problem getting to the end of GTA3 and Vice City or to the end of Manhunt beating the games was another matter but I did beat all of those.
@evil_m3nace I never would have finished San Andreas had it not been for a friend of mine....
Between the auto races, losing your weapons twice [I think], dating and empire building missions they had you going all over the place and most of that was mandatory for story completion...Yeah I would have been stuck at 13% too...

I finished GTA 3 because it was very interesting and the game didn't take itself seriously...however gta 4 sa came out I berely made though 12 percent of the game it was too serious, no jokes or self immolation, the gameplay wasn't that fun and I and I had no drive to finish it...for me max payne 1 and 2, I really liked them because of the way the story was represented with the paintings, the whole theme was amazing and the voice acting was amazing....max payne 3...don't get me wrong I grew up in brazil and I loved that I could understand every word...but, something was lacking...I can't quite put my finger on it...but it somehow lacking...

Though I'm glad they clarified that they haven't announced anything. I was afraid they had announced something and nobody bothered to cover it. I was even more afraid that they HAD announced something and it sucked, like say, that it was a late exclusive to an expiring console. So I'm glad to hear that they haven't announced that now.
The next GTA? I wonder if it's going to have sandbox-style gameplay. or Maybe they just mean it's going to be their new top tier title similar to GTA, because GTA is also a top tier title...hmmm. All these catch phrases and lingo makes my head spin. OF COURSE they can't just come out and say what it is because of NDAs and such. Stupid legal system...

I completely forgot about this game. Then again, I liked any Rockstar game that much to care about their (lack of) announcements.
2 Like I (at least) have never heard about a game called "Agent" but as it is from Rockstar I have to admit it gets my attention!!
It's ancient news. They announced it in like 2007, but so little has been said about it that people started to forget that it existed in the first place.
