PS3 and Xbox 360 are releasing more high graphic, third party developer, action games that will put Wii out of its place.
E3 2009: Popular plumber gets second interstellar jaunt on Nintendo's console, while Tecmo's Team Ninja prepping Samus-led action adventure for 2010.
LOS ANGELES--Nintendo led off its Electronic Entertainment Expo 2009 press event with New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii, a co-op heavy side-scrolling platformer. As Nintendo's press event wrapped up, the publisher trotted out two arguably even more sought after titles, announcing Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M for the Wii.
While Nintendo typically limits its flagship 3D Mario titles to one per console generation, the publisher said that it was making an exception for the Wii with Super Mario Galaxy 2. The 3D platformer draws its aesthetic heavily from the highly acclaimed first installment in the Galaxy series, with a brief trailer for the game showing Mario and his dinosaur friend Yoshi navigating a variety of interstellar planets.
A hallmark of the Mario franchise, the game features a number of themed levels, with the demo showing a snow-coated planet, an underwater section, a haunted castle, and a lush, flora-heavy world. Super Mario Galaxy 2 also maintains the original's puzzle design, showing Mario and Yoshi grappling with tricky environmental hazards and wandering enemies. Nintendo did not reveal a release window for Super Mario Galaxy 2.
Closing out its E3 press event, Nintendo surprised attendees with the unexpected announcement of Metroid: Other M. Nintendo has tapped Tecmo's Team Ninja studio--best known for its Ninja Gaiden franchise--to develop the 3D action adventure. The game is expected to arrive for Nintendo's console in 2010.
Team Ninja is known for delivering intense gameplay, and that reputation was on full display with the brief Metroid: Other M trailer that was shown. After a cutscene showed a young woman later identified to be Samus in a sci-fi military base, the trailer shifted to in-game action of Samus in her iconic armor battling a variety of enemies both with ranged and melee combat.
Hello, last gen toy...Don't bother calling yourself a gaming system, I wouldn't dare want to bother with your 128 bit GPU instead of the PS3/360 which contain the 256 bit GPU which by the way look 10x better than this crap. Well too bad nothing can match Computer gaming... DRR5 1GB 5570x2 6 GB Corsair Dominator's Intel I5 2.83 GHZ processor. Wii is nothing compared to 360 or PS3 other than a family/children's game system.
i think it's great that they are coming out with a new mario game. super mario galaxy was great. i like the way the controls were. what i hated about n64 was the controls were confusing, way too many buttons. but that isn't the case with the wii which is nice.
*sigh*... I want a new 2D mario that is just 1 to 2 players.. give me a new "Super Mario World" on the Wii and I'll be happy.. not the "New Super Mario Bros." stuff, would have been cool without the multi-player... maybe one day I will have that back... one day.
I wouldn`t worry about TECMO, Nintendo usually have an high sense of perfection they are not going too accept bad controls or glitching, that is if Nintendo is going too quality test it. Meeh its gonna be awesome. (Yes Iam a N fanboy 8)
I worry a bit with TECMO at the controls for Metroid but we shall see. The movie shown at E3 had good moments in it. Samus running around in the Zero suit would be a plus if that happens at some points in the game. I DO wish Nintendo would take control over this franchise again though.
WOW! I loved Mario Galaxy, great that they are continuing it. I started drooling when Other M was announced, that game looks sick! Too bad it's coming in 2010...but that's good unlike some other developers, Nintendo takes it's time and quality in it's games. Way to go Nintendo!!
@moose3469 That's what I'm saying dude. I think developers like to look at the Wii as some sort of toy rather than an ACTUAL gaming platform a lot of the time and just end up dumping crap on the system instead of really taking their time on things. Thankfully developers are starting to see that and make some good stuff now. And The Conduit actually looks really good thankfully. Metroid Prime 3 looked awesome too. :)
So basically it's SMG with new planets? Not exactly what I'm hoping for but still pretty good to hear.
Super Mario Galaxy was sensational and Miyamoto said he couldn't put everything he wanted into the first game so I am very intrested to see whats in the sequel. About 90% of it will be different to its predesscor. I can't wait to see what surprises Miyamoto has in store for the game.
For those of you who know Ninja Gaiden, tell me that this new Metroid doesnīt look a lot like Ninja Gaiden, i mean itīs being made by team Ninja, the camera, the movement of Samus, iīm not saying itīs a bad thing, but it seems like Ninja Gaiden with a skin of Metroid Prime. I hope iīm wrong.
I agree with Famguyfan, Super Mario Galaxy was easy but I still play it until my hands bleed, I'm getting the second one. As for Metroid Other M I have only one thing to say: OH MY F****** GOD I CAN'T WAIT FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Super Mario Galaxy was a lot of fun, but I definitely did not think that it was challenging enough. I wish Nintendo would offer some sort of difficulty option for more advanced players. The first Mario Galaxy game just wasn't as much fun as I'd hoped it would be since it was too darn easy. The graphics were still on point though. If I hadn't sold my Wii already I would most likely buy Super Mario Galaxy 2.. and DEFINITELY the new Metroid game!
As AMAZING as Super Mario Galaxy was, and as excited I am to play the next one; I can't help but feel disappointed with the fact that they haven't come up with some new game mechanics for this new installment. Still gonna be an awesome game though ^_^ Looking forward to it!

I wish they would go back to basics for Zelda, take A link to the past, the large dual world theme, or even go with a 1 world 4 version Season based setup, lots of items, weapons, ect.... I am not to fond of the off the wall and limited zeldas since MM/WW
New mario!? YAY! Boo on no release date but no doubt it'l b delayed anyway BUT i'll accept it cos u know it wont let u down with mario goodness!
Im suprised they didnt announce a zelda yet, I heard from a nintendo rep that retro studies is working on a new zelda game
Glad to see more Mario Galaxy and New Super Mario Bros. The DS one was excellent and four player will be a blast! Metroid looks really interesting as well. I was hoping for Zelda on Wii, but perhaps later...
