This game tuned out pretty decent. A nice Max Payne ripoff, Chow Yun-Fat and John Woo style. Well, actually John Woo created the bullet time effect, even before the Matrix and Max Payne, so you could say Max Payne ripped him off! Oh, and STFU Jake.
Stranglehold gets a grip on next-gen consoles
Trio of Midway, John Woo, and Chow Yun-Fat double-barreling an action game for 2006.
LOS ANGELES--Midway's Chicago studio, the dev house responsible for Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy, is teaming up with two of Honk Kong cinema's biggest stars, director John Woo (Face-Off, The Killer) and actor Chow Yun-Fat (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, A Better Tomorrow).
Stranglehold is an unofficial sequel to Hard-Boiled, the 1992 film that helped make both Woo and Yun-Fat film icons. Woo will oversee much of the game's direction, and Yun-Fat will reprise his role as Hard-Boiled's Inspector Tequila, lending his likeness and voice to the game.
"Creating, developing and producing original content for various facets of the entertainment industry is the mantra of Tiger Hill Entertainment and Stranglehold is one of our most ambitious projects yet," said Woo, co-chief executive officer and cofounder of Tiger Hill Entertainment. "We are excited to work with Midway to create an interactive entertainment experience that filmgoers and gamers alike will appreciate and enjoy."
"After so many years of working with John Woo as a movie director, I'm thrilled to venture into the world of video games with Woo and Midway at the creative helm," said Yun-Fat. "Being able to bring move-like action where people can watch and enjoy, to the world of video games where they can experience the adrenaline-filled action firsthand is a great experience to be a part of."
Midway did not specify a release date or platform for Stranglehold, saying only it would be for "next-generation consoles."
