Starhawk limited edition docks at GameStop

Preorder copies at game retailer to include multiplayer maps and skins, theme, digital soundtrack, digital copy of original Warhawk.

Lightbox Interactive and Sony are giving gamers a handful of reasons to preorder upcoming sci-fi third-person shooter Starhawk at specialty retailer GameStop.

Sony today announced the Starhawk Limited Edition, which includes a PlayStation One game Warhawk, multiplayer maps and skins, a theme, and the title's soundtrack. It will be available to all who preorder the game at GameStop at no extra charge.

Leading the list of content included in the limited edition is a download code to pick up PlayStation One game Warhawk, which was originally released in 1995. Outside of that, gamers will also get the Maw of Despair Outcast Pack, which includes a subterranean co-op map and Shade Warrior multiplayer skin. The pack also includes the Echo Scrapyard Rift Pack, which bundles the Scrapyard Homeworld multiplayer map and Huxley Ardin multiplayer skin.

Lastly, gamers who reserve a copy of Starhawk at GameStop will be given a concept art theme and the official Starhawk soundtrack. The soundtrack was composed by Christopher Lennertz, the man behind the music for Mass Effect 2 and comedy film Horrible Bosses.

Starhawk is due out exclusively for the PlayStation 3 on May 8, and a beta for the game is ongoing. For more on the sci-fi shooter, check out GameSpot's latest preview.

I am a sucker for pre-order incentives, I admit this but I must say that this actually has the elements of "collectors" edition for retail price of a standard new game(6o bux). I know they were selling that soundtrack and it was not cheap and w/ all the other perks like the exclusive skins via warhawk (which will not ever be recycled, exclusive meaning just that) and the founders hand.. well if you will be picking this up its obvious that its a pretty cool deal/package. I could name a half dozen games off the top of my head which offers such content @ a collectors / higher cost. So hopefully starhawk will have some legs because im hoping to get a ton of game out of this.

i played WH and i like starhawk more...plus its in the beta stage only 3/5 of the game has even been shown so yaaaaa....stfu and wait to judge

actually they only showed 3 maps for multiplayer and there are 10 i know of, also the campaign is holding its own from what im hearing so its a win win if we get solid campaign and multiplayer in the same disc :0

This game is turning into one giant disappointment. If you played WH(ps3) you probably wont like this but if you never played WH you might enjoy it. I've put well over 100 hours into the beta and its just no way near as good.

I can say that the last game that got 100 hours from me was dark souls, 100 off a beta? well you got your monies worth already.. I do understand your concern and the transition from warhawk to this, this is a spiritual successor not warhawk 2.. Hey warhawk 2 may come some day, you never know.. i hope so and i will enjoy this for the time being, but wow over 100 hours, think about that.. maybe you do enjoy it but just struggle making the transition, hey its normal and did actually happen to me, I did not "fall in love" w/ starhawk until i realized it was not warhawk 2 and was of its own.. Thats when i respected this title and all it promises.

This one simple question can dictate how many hours of work an employer will receive.. So they push this membership hard, i know it sounds very extreme and an unfair business practice but its one which exists.

IMO, those extra goodies that come with this game are worthy of the pre-order and buying it new. Publishers, if you want my money, then you gotta really make it worth, not keep on bashing how used-games hurt you or the industry! I believe its your ignorance that will hurt the industry!

Exactly Cipher. It completely invalidate their argument. I seriously think that Gamestop pays a hefty cut to developer for the exclusive and ads so developers do not want to ruin that relationship while still going after the consumers to prevent them from buying used from them. It funny because if they were to take these promos away from Gamestop, they could force their hand into paying back a royalty. But in the end, I doubt even that would be enough from developers because then they would used the same techniques and claim to combat piracy then. Used games is jut the scapegoat for now and they have piracy ready for if something does happen to curb used game sales.

Why do so many game companies hate used game sales and then oly give exclusive bonuses to the leading (assumption) used game seller? I'd be trying my damnedest to destroy GameStop if I were them. But yay star hawk!

 @---Cipher--- devs see profits in new, used puts money in the pockets of 3rd party retailers for the most part. This is also a reason behind the online pass, to ensure a certain amount of gains/profits to devs.. But of course publishing juggernauts do take advantage of any/all net gains.. Used games are like just about anything else used, like an ipod sold on ebay, apple does not make money on that just the initial purchase and games/movies get crushed by the used market so they do everything ( enter publishing/marketing) possible to urge consumers to buy new.. The exclusive content is usually an element put in place by the publishers, thats why if you a code does not work gamestop will tell you to contact the developers / publishers. The value on games decay rapidly, a 60 dollar game will be worth a little less than half that the moment you peel the plastic off, even if it is in the store 30 seconds after buying new. Gamestop makes profits from used/trades/recycling games, the exclusives are there to get you to buy at gamestop instead of say amazon, the majority of gains come the week of release, carrying over the month of release but then will gradually become stagnant due to trade ins/2nd hand sales. the online pass put in place to counter this.

So i miss out on a map that i have to buy now just to stay with people on the multiplayer day 1? Seriously WTF? Such bullcrap.So there is gonna be a bunch of games i won't be able to join unless i fork out extra cash.I understand a few months in, not 1 day in.

 @WolfGrey Game went gold already, so im sure that they will open it up for all at some point for free.. Light box interactive have many down to earth devs and management, i would be surprised if they didnt release the map for all for free down the line.. Its not a map pack "which bundles the Scrapyard Homeworld multiplayer map and Huxley Ardin multiplayer skin." so i really doubt there will be a "bump" during multiplayer. from what i know its a "homeworld" and a skin from this homeworld can be used in the multiplayer, also the other map is for co-op play..

not sure how they got "multplayer map packs", co-op is an online feature but as far as maps, well from what i gathered from gamestop i have found little that supports multiplayer maps , a co-op and homeworld.. either way these make there way on the store and then release for free eventually.. But as far as getting "bumped" i think this is not going to be the case
