Starhawk arriving May 8, open beta starts today

Lightbox Interactive's PlayStation 3-exclusive shooter hitting store shelves this May; beta now available for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

When Starhawk was officially announced last year, it was scheduled to arrive in early 2012. However, the game isn't going to make that window, as Sony today announced the shooter is touching down on May 8, 2012.

Starhawk is a successor to 2007's PlayStation Network downloadable third-person shooter Warhawk. Unlike its predecessor, Lightbox Interactive's Starhawk will include a single-player campaign in addition to its multiplayer component. A new mechanic to the series will allow on-the-fly building of structures on the battlefield, and the jetlike Hawks return to join a host of other vehicles, including mechs and other cars.

Gamers won't need to wait until May to get into the third-person shooter. An open beta for the game started today, with PlayStation Plus subscribers (and former closed beta participants) being the first members in.

Kick-@$$ game. Very fun playing with other people! First time I've ever cared to play a game with a mic.

@lionhearts007 Certainly not! But Twisted Metal is a sequel and we've been there before, Starhawk however offers something completely new. I'm not saying I don't like TM by the way, absolutely love the games! I'm just more hyped for Starhawk (hence my profile pic :P)

I'm definitely getting this. Finally a single player campaign. Don't know if I'll try the beta or not. I'll see if I can get in.

No doubt the best exclusive to come out this year for Sony's console. The game is of Godly proportions :D

@toddx77 sorry but you have to wait until Jan 31st to use that code @KillerWabbit23 actually it is a month until it goes to all psn users Jan 17: ps+ and all Private Beta participants (who haven't erased their original Private Beta files). see this is why i should be a ps+ subscriber. they give you free crap all the time, they give you a free beta where you dont have to buy god knows what to get a key for it. but xbox live is so slick.....

DUDE! I'm so excited for this, private beta was super fun, gon get the public beta today! I just hope the beta lasts for a while to keep curbing my starhawk needs!
