Star Wars: The Old Republic to get two updates starting May 14

New patches to fix bugs and add general improvements.

Star Wars: The Old Republic players will be experiencing some slight changes in their MMO starting from next week.

According to a post by community manager Eric Musco on the game's official forums, there will be two updates to the game. Both game update 2.1 and 2.2 will fix bugs and add general improvements to the interface and user experience.

More specifically, Update 2.1 "brings a whole lot of customization and convenience features to the game which have been requested for quite some time, such as character name changes etc." As for Update 2.2, Musco was coy. "Even though I can't yet tell you what is in Game Update 2.2, you are getting two Game Updates within that period. I will say this: Game Update 2.2 has no new Cartel Market features," he said.

Update 2.1 will be out on May 14 while update 2.2 will be out on June 11. For more information, check out the forum post.

Star Wars: The Old Republic's monthly revenue has doubled since its switch to a free-to-play model, and has added 1.7 million new players.

Thanks for the update Gamespot! We're all pretty excited about the new updates:

2.1 Is bringing a Character Customization shop that will allow you to change your facial features, hairstyle/color and even race. To kick it off, a new playable race has been added as well.

2.1 Also includes new Dyes that can be crafted, bought, or traded and when used will allow you to change the color patterns of existing armor sets. Because of the color match feature, you will only need to Dye your Chest Piece and you can then match all other pieces to it.

Between 2.1 and the release of 2.2 the Gree Conclave event will be starting up again, with a temporary raid boss and access to rare loot and reputation.

2.2 Is a content update with new missions and gear that haven't been revealed yet. Lots to come!

Not unless you are a sub. The f2p is the most crippling I've ever seen in a f2p model.

@keysnsamples @jsmoke03 Since he subscribed before I believe he should be a "Premium" F2P player which removes a lot of the limitations.

Maybe if they continue the character story lines I will come back, but they need a single player version of the game and not a heavily limited F2P version.  ~sigh~  Another collectors edition sitting on the shelf gathering dust.  A $150 dollar lesson that Bioware is truly dead.

@vicsrealms The f2p is a single player game. That's all it is. People who didn't want to interact with anyone just play the story lines. You're such a drama queen.

Is there some way to remove ftp limitations with one-time purchases from the cartel market ?

I am a subscriber myself, but I would like to pay some quantity of money to become a FTP with no limitations.

@jhonMalcovich

You're looking for a Lifetime Subscription, which has not been offered at this point. Hopefully, someday, but not yet.

This article is *wrong*. The 2.1 update will add cartel market content, among other things. The 2.2 update WILL be a content update. Just read the post!

@Dareitus Just because a journalist writes some news doesn't mean it is correct or well-founded.

They got back to me and updated the article a while ago so I deleted these comments.

Hey! And where the heck is the promised new race?!

@ioshilee It's an MMO - every minor upgrade is hyped months before anything happens to give the impression shit is changing. If they promised you a race maybe it will show up around christmas - stay tuned!

I bet none of these changes are gona fix the piss poor lack of optimizing in the game engine or fix the engines huge bottleneck in streaming data from its data files. Which they really need to fix,

Yep, that's why their sub base doubled since going free2play. The game was a sinking ship a year ago but it has rebounded nicely and its still fun to play.

Because EA would never interpret numbers in an overly favorable way?

I have an Origin account because it was rammed down my throat in order to play Kingdoms of Amalur. I haven't used it for anything else since then.

I'm pretty sure I'm counted in all EA's news releases about the gazillion subscribers to Origin despite being an extremely unwilling subscriber as opposed to how I actively use Steam to purchase games and log onto it daily to look at new deals.

My point is that I don't exactly have a great deal of faith in EA to report information in a manner that is not actively misleading.

The Old Republic originally came in WELL below EA's expectations and even caused heads to roll at the executive level. YMMV but I'd be skeptical that Free To Play suddenly became a Fountain Of Youth Gold Mine for them. It all depends on how they are counting their "subscriber base".

I don't like EA and I'm not defending EA. I like Bioware and Old Republic is an excellent game. It may have its flaws and it may not be considered a true MMO but if you're a fan of the KOTOR series then you'll love this game.

Also, I'm aware of TOR's failure's early on, that's why I said it was a sinking ship a year ago. Had they continued the paid sub route the game would be dead but going F2P has caused the game to grow and continue on in the future.
