Star Wars: The Old Republic now live

You guys haven't seen what this game has done to Revan and HK47 yet, have you? Brace yourselves, it's lame and stupid and further illustrates why this should have been some crappy Clone Wars game instead of turning KOTOR cartoony.

The game is good no doubt. The question is will it retain its players.

Hopefully they can make some money off this but i don't think any MMO is worth a monthly fee anymore. I'm sure guild wars 2 will give this a run for it's money.

It's really interesting how many players start bashing this game without even playing the beta or at least get some info out of it. There are a lot of images, videos, character progression trailers, gameplay tutorials all over the net. The game looks amazing, acts as a true MMOG in all it's glory and definition, it's based on the epic Star Wars movie series and it really grabs you in right from the start. What's up with all this hate? Afraid that you will stop playing World of elite-grindcraft? Or you will stick around less in the dull, badly cripted world of Rift? Hands down to you then. Try this game, give it a chance and you won't regret it. After playing it, you will then realise what a fantastic game this is, how much work has been invested all this years in it's creation and how a next-gen MMO should look like. This game is here to stay ... for a long time now! If you don't agree then go back to wow and wait for kung-fu panda! If you are here to play this one then the force is strong within yourselves so kudos and see you all in the next wave!

I got into the day 1 early access yesterday. Really good game so far :)

Think i'll stick to Rift myself :) Wish it the best of luck though

If anyone is wondering what makes this different from other MMOS i.e. WoW - it's because of the enhanced RPG story elements that draw you into the character while the others lean toward the MMO grind design too often.

Will Old Republic ever come to console?

ToR is, in my opinion, the first REAL mmoRPG! It fits perfectly the ambitions of the Star Wars fans, because you can live an epic story just like the movies! Games like WoW and so many others are more focused on the MMO aspect, and not so much on the RPG side. I can't wait for December 20th! ^^

Anyone writing this game off as "WoW in space" is doing themselves a bit of a disservice. While a lot of the core fundamentals are like WoW (combat, skill trees, action bars, skill vendors, ect.) Anyone who can't see past that is missing the finer points. Almost nothing other than the above fundamentals is ripped wholesale. Almost every aspect of the game has some little Bioware wrinkle in it that gives the game it's own identity. But this isn't apparent right off the bat. The game slowly reveals it's more unique features to you, and all these little touches don't start to take shape into a greater whole until around level 20.

@Hakkology If you thought preordering 20 days before the game came out was going to get you into the early access on day one you were kidding yourself. To give you some perspective, I preordered my copy at the end of July and I didn't get a day one invite. That should give you some idea of just how many people preordered this game. The low end of the estimations are over a million. They expect to have somewhere around 750 thousand people logged on at all times when the official release hits on the 20th. So double or even triple that for an estimated unit sales total globally due to continental time differences.

Although the game is very WoW, it's an updated version with extra features. I'm in.

The characters animations look awful and the game..overall is to much of a WoW game.

You should check there forums, a lot of people are crying about not getting in. Its sad but true, at this point EU-servers are up and running, and all giving light status (low). But invites by e-mail are only going out US time. Hope they will fix this, bit strange to have servers up, but there is no way you can get in untill the sun goes up again in the US. Its the same to buy a Mercedes in the US but the dealer opens EU time.

Same waiting for my early access code had a blast myself..Heres to hoping that star wars lasts for many many years to come..Hopefully the expansion packs will be awesome..

You know... when making a fine video like this it's perfectly okay if you don't talk over each other or sound like morons while game is loading. Just saying... I do however look forward to playing TOR.

Had a blast during my Beta Weekend, patiently waiting for my acess code. :)

This is a good idea in theory, but the reality is as hard as it is to get all your friends onto the same server and same faction, as well as keep each other at the same level so you can keep playing together is almost impossible, and with this rolling early access scheme it makes it even more ridiculously hard. Now one of my friends already got early access while I'm still waiting, and by the time I get into the game he will already be miles ahead of me. This is an issue that very rarely MMOs seem to address.

Looking forward to playing this with my 2 mates in Jan/Feb'ish. I havent tried it yet, as I can get bored of MMORPGS really easily, but simply because it reminds me of mass effect and my mates have bigged it up so much.........why not :) I can bet that there are folks who have passed the lvl 25 mark already, and are striving to be high level within the next couple of days for either bragging rights or because they have taken work off (or in most cases, have no job) lol. Great game, got my preorder and waiting for the early access. Been waiting for hours for my turn to get EGA with many other people. It's practically WORST launch ever with them not giving any timeline. Not to mention i preordered the game at 30th November, i think i can have a day at most of Early game access. I worry there are people already lvl 20-25 right now :(. Fail launch for this awesome game.

TOR got old before it even came out, it's about time for GW2 beta! The force is strong in that one, not this bantha fooder.

I'm dreading the first 10 levels again after doing it in beta a few times. Hoping endgame is a little less talk and a lot more action.
