Star Wars: First Assault gameplay footage emerges

Video from older version of rumored downloadable shooter surfaces showing off guns and abilities; game's current status is unknown.
Gameplay footage from the rumored Star Wars: First Assault has emerged, showing off the first video from a downloadable multiplayer shooter that may never be. Kotaku has obtained two videos, both cut from a internal trailer in October or November last year.
The footage is reportedly from an older version of the game and is not necessarily emblematic of what Star Wars: First Assault looks like at present. According to the site's source, the trailer contains all in-game footage, including bugs and incomplete art.
"In the time since it was made, many improvements have been made in performance, completeness, and quality," this person said.
The first video clip, which shows a Stormtrooper putting on a helmet, is a pre-rendered introduction to the full trailer. The second is a gameplay clip that shows a squad of Stormtroopers taking on rebels in a variety of locations. It features a mix of first- and third-person sequences, and shows off some of the game's guns and abilities.
First Assault, along with Star Wars 1313, has reportedly been on hold since Disney purchased the Star Wars brand in October. The game first came to light last year, when artwork for the Xbox Live Arcade version was posted online.
The game is also reportedly "step zero" to Star Wars: Battlefront III, a test of sorts for Star Wars shooter games that run on the Unreal Engine. If the game is successful, it could lead to the release of the long-in-development--and heavily debated--Battlefront III.
The game's current status is unknown.

3 Like I dont understand why they are afraid to make BF3, not only is there A LOT of people ready to buy it (my self included) just because of the previous game, if it was done right it would be a hit !! after all, recently all we have had was the average force unleashed games that only really sell because it has the star wars label. Hell, even a re release of BF II, with updated graphics and online multiplayer would make a killing let alone a new BF all together. It boggles my mind that nothing has been done with this IP.

Disney and lucasarts are totally playing gamers and game journalists here, these supposed leaks are either to up the hype for the game before announcement (like Ubisoft just did with AC4) or this is market research to see how well it might sell. There's probably a team at disney running through comment sections trying to gauge interest. kind of funny really.

They are not and nor did I say there were but if I can choose between a great game with great graphics and a great game with poor graphics, I'm gonna choose to have better graphics. Unless they're trying to budget by using an older engine then there's no down side to having better graphics.
I personally don't play CS but I have seen it and while people may love it I'm sure if it looked better that would just give them one more thing to love about it.

1 Like Hope this hasn't been cancelled. I used to play in first person on BF2 anyway so not bothered about that.
That didn't impress me much. Why it has to be first person shooter. I want a Star Wars adventure game with third person camera, without quick time events and mandatory cover mechanics. Something like Jedi Knight II but without boring first person sequences at the beginning of the game.
@snaketus Funny you mention JK as it started out as a FPS which is what gave it its start :)
They practically have the game ready, so they just need to release it. If they don't then I will f**k Diesney in the ass :p
Eh, I hope they're going to be heavily modifying the Unreal Engine they're going to be using. The Unreal Engine in and of itself is extremely buggy/glitchy and has a lot of flaws, many of which could be seen easily in the newest Alien Vs Predator game. I'd rather have the CryTek engine (Used for Crysis) for this game.

You're blaming the Unreal Engine for the flaws in the Alien vs Predator game??? I'd say it was design flaws nothing to do with the engine.
You can't really blame the game engine for a bad game, they have full C++ access and can modify and make the engine work in anyway they want. If there's bugs/flaws in it then I'd say blame the developer.
Did you even mean AvP or are you on about that disgrace that is Colonial Marines as I don't even know what bugs/flaws you're refering to?
I've used both UDK and Cryengine and I would say there isn't really that much difference in terms of what they can do, Cryengine wins with real time dynamic lighting but as developers are now using UE4 that does have this feature then they are both pretty much at the same tech level.
Basically you've just made something up to sound clever there without really knowing what you're talking about.

They should make another Republic Commando game.. but I would think any developer would be so afraid because it would never meet the hype and standards held by critics and fans.
@Elann2008 It worked because it still felt starwars, tha banter between team mates, the giving orders to your team, and the story was not the strongest but kept you playing. I love RC its in my top SW games along with the DF series ( including JK ) and RougeSquad.
@gibbey531 Yeah it was very un-starwars like. Very dark and violent compared to other games in the series. For me though, it was my first COD. Craz fast paced action. Lot of fun.

1 Like Dude games have been getting me so nostalgic lately. I've found myself going back and playing my old star wars games and the old Halo games. The newer games these days just aren't doing it for me. I remember in 4th grade at my birthday, I got the starwars best of PC combo disc thing. I played so many fucking hours of Republic Commando it was ridiculous. Back in the PS2 days when I was in elementary school, no one followed game news or anything. We just waited until we happened to see a new game in a store and we'd be down. The day me and my friends first saw that Battlefront 2 was out, is a day i'll never forget. We played that game for years in my friends basement and it was the probably the most fun I'll ever have in my life. I hope they start making good starwars games again, or start a whole new awesome franchise. I'm hoping Bungie's Destiny will be good. I know this is random and poorly written, it's late and I'm depressed cause I miss the good old days of gaming.

@ligerplease @Grunt987654 Yeah the one that did it for me was getting of the drop ship on the Silent Cartographer level. Looking up into the sky and seeing the rest of the Halo span above you. And looking at the beautifully colored island was just jaw-dropping. I wish I could be as easily entertained now as I was back then. I could play the same level on a game hundreds of times with a shit eating grin on my face no matter what. These new games though, just seem to have no originality to them. Someone's got to do something new. I hope that disney doesn't fuck up star wars 1313

All I knew was that a new badass starwars game came out and I needed a way to get my hands on it. Although after years of playing, I have to say I like Battlefront 1 more. I'm not sure if it was the maps, the graphics or something else, I just like the first one the most

@Grunt987654 @ligerplease battlefront 2 was the very first game I preordered...only because if you preordered it you got a free copy of a magazine with an xbox demo...I played that demo till it was unreadable. When battlefront 2 came out...lets just say I wish I had a confetti popper when I picked it up.
