Spyro returns with Skylanders
Activision reviving purple dragon platformer series for consoles, PC, and portable devices via Toys for Bob; Skylanders Spyro's Adventures release pegged for fall 2011.
The latest Spyro title--The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon--was released in 2008 to cold reception. The series has been dormant since then, but Activision has now awoken the dragon from its slumber.
The megapublisher today announced Skylanders Spyro's Adventures. From Novato, California-based developer Toys for Bob, the game will debut for consoles, PC, and handheld devices during fall 2011. The title will cast players as the "Portal Master," a character who controls the game's dozens of cast members.
The game boasts connectivity with real-world toys based on the Spyro universe. In Spyro's Adventures, players will be able to place all of the line's 31 action figures--who have distinct special abilities--on a "portal" and have characters appear in game.
According to a USA Today report, pricing for individual toys for the game has not been determined, but the core game will be available in a $70 version starter pack. This bundle includes the game, three toys, a portal, and trading cards.
To create Skylanders Spyro's Adventures, Activision sought out Hollywood talent, according to USA Today's report. Shrek character designer Tom Hester, Toy Story writers Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen, and Inception composer Hans Zimmer are all attached to the project.

First Crash Bandicoot, Now Spyro. Universal Interactive cannot make up their minds...

PLEASE BRING OUR OLD SPYRO BACK FOREVER!!!!!!!! :'(
insomniac is the best developers for spyro. no contest.
i hate activision already and this will just make my hate stronger. he looks more like a gargoyle than a dragon.
This is happening to to many franchises. Devil May Cry, Crash, Sonic, Mega Man, I've heard Soul Calibur went down too... He looks like... I don't even know what he looks like.
Insomniac never owned the rights to Spyro, guys. They only developed the first three Spyro games. Universal Interactive did in fact own the rights to Spyro, and they were later called Vivendi Games, and are now merged with Activision. I don't see why fans keep missing this fact. -_-
THE BIGGEST MISTAKE OF CHANGING SPYRO'S FACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
..... Whaat happened to the cartoony spyro?! Isomniac get back into the cockpit and help spyro!
R.I.P Spyro.... T_T
Give it back to Insomniac, take it away from Activision, you've got a sale.
Turning a cute, lighthearted dragon into a even more cliched badass "weapon of mass destruction" with a girlfriend. How original. Often hollywood-people make me puke and people attracted to this kind of formulaic, spine- and soulless crap, too. Some people would even turn sesam street into a game with gritty voices, 400-pound musclemen, guts flying everywhere, tree-sized hand-weaponry - just to earn a buck.
Oh yeah a new Spyro game since Dawn of the Dragon
This is the same mistake Naughty Dog made with Crash Bandicoot.
fail..
Fail. Why does it feel like Activision is determined to ruin every good franchise it can get it's hands on?
Goodnight.. sweet prince
changing the look of spyro was really a bad move. i liked the origional. i would play it all the time, but i dont see that happening this time.
Dont like the new look, the original 3 were so classic on the PS, shame they're just milking the franchise...
Love the gritty announcers voice. . . *eye roll* LoTR Spyro? What happened to the cartoony enemies and the light hearted nature of the originals??
Then add the price for each toy....
Ok So i Revoke Some Of My Comments. I Still Dont Like Spyros Look BUUUUUT. The ONLY GOOOD THINGS I REALLY SEE Is Its Cross Platforming. I Have To Admit That Is Impressive. Buts $70.00 Is Still Much.
Gees I Am Not Beleaving What They Did To Our Spyro. Hes Sooo Friggin Mutated Looking. He Dont Look Like Spyro At All. You Gotta Be Kidding Me. Surely This Aint Our Cute Lil Spyro MUtated To Some STrange Weird Looking Creature. And Possibly $70.00 For A Starter Game. Thats Friggin Prize Gouging. Dude. No Game Is Wourth That Much. I Mean Im A Loyal Spyro Fan But I Dont See Myself Spending So Much On A Mere Starter Game. I Find That Unbleleavable. Though In All Honasty And Truth I seen This Coming. SInce Activision made SOOOOOO Friggin Much Of The Legend Of Spyro Trilogy. I Guess They Seen This As A New way To make Even More Money. This Is Sad Very Sad. Surely We Wil See Our Ole Spyro From The L.O.S. Or Some The Orginal. Not This. This Is Unbleavable. Honastly Was Hoping After All This Time They Would Improve The Game Not Destroy It. Im Sooo....... Shocked. Some One Tell Me. Is There Any Hope For Spyro?
It looks like a Gremlin lol
Looks like Spyro charged face first into one too many cliffs.
WTH did they do to you SPYRO! tsk2x
Insomaic GET BACK INTO THE SPYRO PROJECT AND SHOW EM HOW IT'S DONE!
Spyro looks more like a Gremlin now instead of a Dragonling.
this looks ok
I remember waking up early and staying up late getting me some Riptos Rage, on my PS1. I loved that dragon. Then I played Hunters Tail, and threw my copy into the lake, and now that I see this i'm probably going to hold a Dawn of the Dragon burning.
Spyro? Spyro? ... SPYROOOOO
Spyro is no longer the gentle creature we once knew and loved
wow Looks epic.............. I hope we get to see it get good reviews.....
What is it with "make overs" these days!? This isn't as bad as Dante but still looks wrong and odd...
This is terrible.... this franchise doesn't deserve this. Future foretold: Skylanders will be discontinued after this fails to turn a huge profit. Those jobs are as good as gone :( If we're lucky, Activision will sell the rights to someone who can actually do this series justice.
my little brother wont like this they ruined crash for him now spyro lol hee will go mad but for reall activi$ion sucks
WHAT DID THEY DO TO HIM??
Oh snap they totally ruin Spyro who once was a cute little dragon and now he looks like he all juice up on botox
finally reviving this series, i used to love it. but dont like the new look and dont like the fact we need to buy toys to play the game. just a way to get more money
Noooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! D:
about time
What's up with needing some dumb toys for gameplay?
What the hell?! It's like Spyro had sex with a pug, and that's what ended up coming out. D: Put this franchise back in Insomniac's hands, goddammit!
meh, doesnt look as fun as my all time favorite ps1 versions. spyro now looks like he went through a blender THEN got ran over by a car.
Despite Spyro's design, I'll try this game out instead of "judging the book by its cover", then decide myself if I like it or not. I'm actually looking forward to playing this game to see if there any similarities to the other Spyro games before it..
Spyro of Duty people, Warning. You're gonna buy the same game each year.
Spyro looks like gollum. He's been wearing the ring for years. Must've found the ring after year of the dragon
they ruined this franchise the ps 1 games were so good Activision is so greeedy
Please give this franchise back to Insomniac. What the hell have they done to my favorite childhood game?
I don't know why anyone cares... the last good syro game was year of the dragon...
