wait a minute, this is made by activision! it's gonna bombshell and die like all of their super hero games! XD
Developer Beenox's second entry in series will feature branching Spider-Man 2099, Amazing Spider-Man storylines; Peter David penning plot.
Last year, Activision published Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, the first entry in the series from Quebecois studio Beenox. Though the game didn't get the best reviews, its critical and commercial reception were solid enough that Activision named Beenox the lead developer of all of its Spider-Man games going forward.
Originally, Beenox and Activision were to reveal the next Spider-Man game at WonderCon 2011 this Saturday, April 2. However, today they jumped the gun, announcing that Spider-Man: Edge of Time will ship this coming fall. No platforms were mentioned, but Shattered Dimensions was released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PC, and DS.
Like Shattered Dimensions, Edge of Time will take place in separate worlds--in this case, the contemporary Amazing Spider-Man universe and that of Spider-Man 2099. The latter is based on a 1992 comic series, which introduced an alternate future version of Spider-Man, one that was also featured in Shattered Dimensions.
The Spider-Man 2099 series was scripted by famed Marvel writer Peter David, who is also penning the plot for Edge of Time. The game will task players with saving the life of Peter Parker in the modern-day Spider-Man universe in order to prevent an errant timeline from creating a bleak, apocalyptic future. The game will feature "cause-and-effect" gameplay, where one Spider-Man action will affect the other Spider-Man's timeline.
Further details on the game will be revealed at the Spider-Man WonderCon panel on Saturday, April 2, and GameSpot will be on hand at the event.
@pszone First: Spell Check. Its a beautiful thing. Second: Activision does not care what anyone thinks and all they want is money.
another year another worst spiderman game Activevision stop realseing spiderman games and transformers games .
I was just thinking about picking up Spiderman Web of Shadows and Spiderman Shattered Demension up considering there ridiculously cheap if you buy them from gamestop used. I'll probably pick this one up when it's used at gamestop to. ps. a lot of Super hero games this year DC Universe Captain America Thor Green Lanter Spiderman and Batman Arkham City.
What Spider-Man keeps on hoping for is the success Batman has now achieved thanks for Arkham Asylum. If their games get better, then it's entirely possible that can happen.
SD compared to Web of Shadows was crap, WOS had amazing locomotion and really brought out the agility Spider-Man deserves. SD lacked that freedom :( and now the same company are gonna do this one...
Whenever I hear there's a new Spider-Man game coming out I get so excited I don't know what to do with myself!!! :D
Am I the only one that didn't really like Spider-Man 2099? I thought it was too flashy and overly cheesy. I would have much rathered a game with Spider-Man Noir in it.
Interesting. Shattered Dimensions was good but Noir kinda ruined it for me. Good to see that two of the lesser Spider-Men are removed for better possibilities with Classic and 2099 Spider-Man.
I hope this game has open world, if anyone can fight crime at anytime or swing around till you attach yourself to a flying aircraft and ride on it; that would be so awesome.
It's pretty obvious someone went down these comments and disliked all of them. But on topic, this game looks very interesting to me! I love that whole 'do something and see the consequences' type of gameplay, so this has the potential to be great in my eyes.
Left trigger shoots a web from your left hand. Right trigger shoots a web from your right hand. And the webs attach to the closest buildings. If thats the basic control scheme, i will buy every spiderman game with it.
Hope this would be an awesome Spider-man game! It's been a while since I played a Spider-man game :)
this looks interesting. look forward to seeing how this develops. so far Spiderman 2 is my favorite spiderman game. simply EPIC! ^__^
@Philly1UPer The games couldn't have been in development longer than 1-2 years. I'm talking about Triple-A stuff here. I don't mean that there will be a ton of Spider-man games, but that the ones they do release will be mediocre. Sorry I didn't spell that out the first time.
I'm not interested in another Spider-man game that isn't an open world game. Spidey 2 was the only one that really got it right. There have been fun Spidey games since of course, ShattyDims was fun and WoS wasn't awful. But I'd give anything if they'd just add in the Spidey 2 web swinging mechanics again. If they want to appeal to the widest audience then they can always do the old "Easy Mode" thing for those who aren't interested in the Web Swinging or whatever. But the danger of flying through NYC at super dangerous WebWarp speed was the best Spidey game I ever played, maybe the best Superhero game I've played. Even though most of the stuff other than the swinging was weak, it didn't matter. I looked past it as I swung past it. ;)
Sweet! I'm so excited for this! I'm actually playing Shattered Dimensions right now on my PC and I love it! It's just plain fun! Beenox did a great job with Shattered Dimensions, so I'm expecting this to be pretty damned good too! Since they'd only be doing two dimensions, they should have more time and space to make the game even better than the last! Man I can't wait for this! ^^ And thank God it's out this fall! I just hope it gets a PC version and they release it either the same time with the console version or sometime after :D
It will release the same platforms for the PS3, XBOX360, Wii, NDS and PC (including for the N3DS). Also the voice actors will be the same (I hope so) "God bless Beenox". :) P.S.: Please let WayForward (who brought Contra 4 and Shantae) develop for the NDS!
Shattered Dimensions was okay. I enjoyed it. Though I didn''t like 2099. I would have preferred Noir instead!
i'm still waiting for the first one to drop down to 20 bucks brand new because even the best Comic Book Video games are not worth anything more than that in my opinion
@Philly1UPer milking is when a game comes out every year. activision is good when it comes to marvel games, i give em that. they go out and get great developers to make it, like neversoft did with the first spider man games for the playstation, and raven did for the x-men and ultimate marvel action rpg's. to make a game good, and LAST, just put everything you can into it. heck, sprinkle in some DLC. but do not come out with a new game every year. example: call of duty, guitar hero, now this. this game is from the same studio and the same 2 of the shattered dimensions spidey lineup; 616(real marvel universe) and 2099. that fits the milking category to me. marvel and activision have everyone ready for x-men destiny and then shove that out of the way with another spidey game, and THEN next year a NEW spider man game to coincide with the new film. so in the span of LESS than 30 months, there will be THREE spider man games on shelves. one under 30, and TWO at 60 bucks.
I liked Shattered Dimensions. Can't wait for this game. I really wish there was a game based off the Knightfall comics featuring Azrael as batman.
and i thought activision finally stopped with the milking when i was debating buying shattered dimensions because of a price drop. this game is going to be slaughtered by arkham city. and its already being beaten down on comic stands because bruce wayne is batman again... a bad year for marvel and activision i say. well... marvel still has the movies!
@StJimmy15 and @SillySkeleton K....Activision isn't releasing SPiderman Games left and right like they did with Guitar Hero. Web of Shadows came out in 2008, then TWO years later, Spider-Man-SD came out. So....how is Activision "milking" the franchise already? I'm not trying to sound like a jerk, But there are more CoD and Guitar Hero games that got released within the last 3-4 years from Activision then there were Spider-Man games.
