Ubisoft bringing brawler based on Starz TV show to unspecified consoles at beginning of next year; Liam McIntyre lending voice and likeness to game.
Starz Entertainment's original Spartacus television show is being spun into a console game. Ubisoft announced today that it will publish Spartacus Legends--a fighting game based on the original TV series--in early 2013 for unspecified consoles.
According to Ubisoft, Spartacus Legends players will experience the life of a gladiator, from practicing on training grounds to participating in battles in the arena. Players will be tasked with dismembering their foes, and will have thousands of weapon combinations and a "robust" skill system to use along the way.
Players will be able to fight as Spartacus, Crixus, or a user-created gladiator, and take part in fights with friends locally or via online multiplayer. The game also sports a worldwide leaderboard for players to track their progress against others.
Fans of the Spartacus TV show will recognize one of the game's fighters. Liam McIntyre, who took over as Spartacus in the show's second season following the death of Andy Whitfield from cancer in 2011, will lend his voice and likeness to the game. Additionally, McIntrye is reportedly "very involved" with the Spartacus Legends development team, playing early builds and providing feedback.
Not everyone will have to wait until 2013 to play Spartacus Legends, as the game will be playable on the Comic-Con 2012 show floor at the Starz Media booth from today through Sunday.

Can't wait till this comes out. Now I have three games to look forward to in early 2013 (Gears of War, Spartacus, and Bioshock).
Those of you expecting nudity akin to the show, get real. Look at the (very few) big games that have nudity. God of War, Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3, etc. The most that's showed is some boobs in no more than one scene. You think with all the fire video games has come under in the past decade or so they'll risk the amount of sex and nudity in the show?
Seriously. This was an idea I had playing Oblivion's Arena and watching Spartacus. But people with MONEY got to it before I did. Knowing Liam McIntyre, an avid gamer, is pretty involved in the development, PLUS user-created gladiators (I'm a sucker for custom characters), this sounds like it has good potential. Hopefully it's less like Game of Thrones as far as TV-to-video game adaptations go.

That decapitation in the screenshot is hilarious. That head doesnt seem to be bothered by whats happening at all.
Cool. I actually don't like the show because of the MTV style editing and effects, but it's perfect to a fighting game. Let's just hope they don't make it too generic/noob friendly like a lot of games based on movies/series.
Well by Experience I've learned that Movie to Game never turns out great, Remember Avatar! this one looks like same thing happened to Prison Break and Avatar by Ubisoft .... but I hope this one turns out great love to try it cause I my self am working on making Spartacus the Arena and the Pits as an Educational Project with UDK you can keep track it here http://makanansari.weebly.com/
@syler4815162342Well this is TV-to-game, so it would fall more in line with Game of Thrones and the upcoming Walking Dead game. Still not much more hope. Main difference is most movie tie-in games' development is rushed to beat the movie's release date. The aforementioned TV-to-game adaptations had at least a longer development time.

Spartacus is a hell of a series, great script, great plots, superb action and the fight scenes are fantastic. Anyone who has seen the movie 300 will get hte picture. This could be a great game if they dont rush it out and screw it up. Lets face it, TV and movie tie-ins dont have a great history. I remember a game called Barbarian where you were in an arena and could chop off your opponants head whith a well timed spin stroke of the sword. cant wait.
I hope this game is more like "Gladiator" from the PS 2 days. I love playing it on my Vita.
@ps4please It is ironic that I enjoyed the show and it made me remember how much I like gladiators and it made me want to play a game with gladiators. Then right after watching the episode I come on here and see an article for the game, not expecting to see a game for the show.

kinda off topic, but is the show any good? I heard the story's pretty ok, but ruined by tasteless sex and nudity...
Its great if a lil low-brow at times. The sex is there, but isn't as pointless as other shows, but there is alot. Where the show fails (or is made even more amusing, depending on your pov) is the special effects department often looks ridiculously bad.
1 Like @MechaNapoleon With the exception of the pilot, each episode of the first season is wonderfully crafted and well-executed. The TV show has an understandably limited budget (it's not an adaptation of a big-name series such as Game of Thrones) and they chose to compensate by going with a more graphic novel style. But really, the sex and violence don't do much to detract from the really great aspects of the show.

Anyone who remembers Barbarian in the good old 8/16bit days remembers the satisfaction of successfully pulling off a flying head chop : ) I really hope this game offers the same levels of goodness : )
1 Like It's funny, whenever new games are announced, the comments are always negative and people always seem disappointed even though the game is still in development. It shows that people have lowered their expectations for new games.

Maybe if it let you own a ludus, mingle with an economic system, recruit, trade and train gladiators, participate in full fledged events with chariots and tigers, or even fight in the underground pits with random starting weapons... oh well, I'm a dreamer.
