Sound Byte: Lovely Melodies for Valentine's Day
Get in the mood or get some romantic ideas in our special Valentine's Day music feature.
You might brush off February 14 as just another "Hallmark holiday," and you wouldn't be alone if you have mixed feelings about this day. Even as a gamer, it's hard to forget that today is Valentine's Day. If you've been spending most of your waking hours on World of Warcraft, then you know every major city is plastered with hearts--even in the dungeons. It's on the calendar. You really have to be oblivious to miss that one. So to shove more icky love stuff in your face, the team here at GameSpot decided to put together a video of our favorite romantic melodies in gaming--just for you. Consider it a gift!
Sound Byte is GameSpot's game music blog, which covers every aspect of music in games, including interviews with top game music composers, as well as discussions of new and classic game soundtracks. Kairi's theme from KH is the best (FF XIII:) should have been Hopes theme instead of Saras, it's way better
tales of abyss!
@dawnofheroHaha, I like your style sir! :D
@nintendo-naut Finally, somebody who actually thinks that sexual themes should be ditched from the game world besides me. :) And you're exactly right. Developers should leave all that trash in an 'adult' bookstore that's located in some dark, moldy, rat-infested building downtown, lol. Seriously, though, if someone wants to watch naked people get all over each other, they should get their material elsewhere and not from a video game.
@dawnofheroAgreeing with you--Leave that crap in the adult video store and get it out of our games.
i'm surprised they didnt mention the love in heavy rain. i guess it was just me then
I would like to be protected more. Dear our website. I think gamespot should protect me more
Now I want Dragon Age a lot more! ;)
@sooty1987 Even worse, pal. Even WORSE!
@dawnofhero that's because you prefer guy on guy action
I remember the 'bar room' choice between cheeky grease-monkey Rachel Coriolis (Ginger Allen) and smooth flight chick Robin 'Flint' Peters (Jennifer MacDonald) in Wing Commander 3. I personally saved my game and tried both! But ended up opting for Rachel...maybe it was the grubby jumpsuit?? More recently, the Mass Effect 2 'Shepherd and Tali'Zorah' romance was a high point...maybe it was the mysterious enviro-suit she wore?? (Apologies, there seems to be a running theme here...) Anywayyyyy, the music in Mass Effect (romantic or otherwise) is some of the best I've ever heard in a video game - iconic. I hope Clint Mansell's soundtrack for ME3 lives up to the previous 2... Incidentally, I love that Parappa the Rapper from the video above - genius! :-)

The ff8 scene is why i love to play games, one of most iconic moments in my gaming experience...
Waltz for the moon in Final Fantasy VIII is so damn romantic I love it
My god Dragon Age...
I really enjoyed the feature. My top pick for a romantic/love song in a video game has to be, hands down, Aeris' Theme from FFVII. Not only does it sound beautiful, but anytime I play it on the piano for my girl = immediate romantic mood. I guess the song may not reflect a specific romantic moment, but its style is definitely romantic and... it works like a charm. Once again, awesome feature -- Sound Byte ftw.
I have yet failed to see an interesting love story in a video game (appart from Braids).
will the dude in DRAGON AGE is burning and there are a lesbian in it ;-) and i love the love in bayonetta :D
go squall go :))
3:16 gave me nightmare. O_O"
Dragon age sex is really creepy.
FFVIII Bring me good memories.
SoundByte seems to be the only non-biased thing on this website. o.o I'm surprised they're not choosing music from ALL current-gen games.
and why the hell is bayonetta there? bayonetta ruins everything it appears on
@roninzeta if you didnt found FF VIII to be extremely romantic and touching, then you have the heart of a rock. although I do have to say...they shouldnt have picked "waltz for the moon" as the "lovely melodie for valentine's" seriously at that point they didnt even knew each other...eyes on me was just a plain better song
I consider myself a romantic, but I found FFVIII's SquallxRinoa "romance" to be one of the most horrific, unbelieveable love stories, ever. It doesn't help that I dispise almost the entire cast, including those two.
I love Final Fanstasy VIII!
Gotta love me some FFXIII

Sound Byte features are my favorite :) I really, really expected Guitaroo man to be part of this track list, though
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (game); Prince's and Farah's love was unforgotten.
@datay98 you need to find one. cause girls won't find u.
I think the play boy the mansion has good lovely scenes. and good for valentine day.
Yay for beastiality.... did we have to have a girl making out with a dead sonic at the end of this?
and that scene on Red Dead in Mexico, isn't that love?
i don't have a...
and i just noticed my picture is perfect for this day
i didnt play any of these games but still a good video. as for my favorite love scene thats a tough 1 but i would have to go with GTA San Andreas coffee glitch
also kingdom hearts "when u walk away" very romantic guess they should post it too
i think final fantasy 8 is the most romantic experience i had , same goes for its musical score as the theme of ff8 was love and one other thing it makes me remember how much i was affectionate about rinoa , guess that was childhood but the score and feel is everlasting , one of those things ill remember till last breath
Great vid.....
Ironically, Parappa was neutered right after that performance.

There's a game that has lesbians doing THAT in it??? What the heck!?
Parappa the Rapper was indeed a great game, that song was also very heart warming. Why don't they make rhythm games like that of today?
Happy Valentines Day nice video
happy VD day...
wish my gf is a gamer, so we can enjoy scene like this together :) despite my love / hate for ff8, it's one of the best romantic story in FF :)
Tidus and Yuna and at the end of Final Fantasy X is classic.
