Soulcalibur IV Unleashed

Sith apprentice from LucasArts' Star Wars: The Force Unleashed to cross lightsabers in Namco Bandai's newest fighter.

When Star Wars icons Yoda and Darth Vader were first confirmed to appear in Soulcalibur IV, would-be Jedi the world over doubtlessly dreamed of epic lightsaber duels. Those dreams were short-lived, as Namco Bandai had made each character exclusive to a single system, forcing the foes to instead beat up on the standard Soulcalibur cast of traditional-weapon-wielding fighters (or stage their own Clone Wars with character-versus-same-character matches).

However, today Namco Bandai channeled Yoda with the announcement that "there is another." Both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game will feature the Secret Apprentice character from LucasArts' upcoming Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, allowing for proper lightsaber-on-lightsaber duels in a fighting game for the first time since 1997's original PlayStation game Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kasi.

The Secret Apprentice stars in Force Unleashed as Darth Vader's first Sith underling. Since the game takes place between the events of Episode III and Episode IV (the most recent Star Wars film and the very first Star Wars film), the Secret Apprentice must live up to his name and carry out Vader's orders while keeping his existence under wraps.

Soulcalibur IV is set for release on the Xbox 360 and PS3 in regular and limited editions on July 29. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will follow for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and Nintendo DS on September 16.

I read that Vader and Yoda would be downloadable for both consoles later on or did they change that?

Vader sucks in the game. My cousin already has it for both consoles. Vader is cool al in all but he is very slow and very easy to beat if you aren't an expert with him.

Just too bad we can't play as Vader on the 360. *sigh*

lol, u know what would be kinda kool? instead of star wars, they should have kratos for ps3, altair (guy from assassin's creed) for both, and maybe ryu hayabusa for 360

misterblue, thank god, Kratos is NOT in this.

Seriously guys. there's apparently over 30 characters in this game. Stop whining about the 'Vader, Yoda' split. And please, no more complaining about how the light sabers should be able to burn through the conventional weapons or kill you in one blow. #1) Light Sabers aren't real (and neither is Santa Clause) #2) Technically 99.9% of the moves in this game from any weapon should kill you in one blow, but they don't. no one is complaining about that. (like when Mitsurugi IMPALES YOU...) #3) Taki's chest is awesome. Enough said.

*sigh*...... why is there sooo much negative feedback over guest characters? if u dont like them then u dont have to play with them or buy the game. they are cameo appearances ppl. the star wars characters have just as much right to be in it then link, heihachi, and spawn. i can see star wars fitting it but heihachi and spawn? isnt that like two different eras? also ppl are complaining about lightsabers vs. swords. these is fictional stuff ppl. theres no way you'll still be alive if nightmare hit u with his sword but the characters still continue to fight. so plz stop complaining. this game is gonna be awesome, ive been drooling over it for awhile and cant wait to play it on 360.

This game is going to be awesome, I just don't get what star wars characters have to do with the story. The only reason many people wil buy this game is because of Yoda and Darth Vadar, not because they enjoy the soulcaliber series.

I hate to be a knit-picker, but Star Wars: Episode III had an extra fighting mode where you could lightsaber duel.

Dude, I seriously cannot wait for this game. I've played Soulcalibur many time before in the arcade. But, never actually owned the game. But, now that you can play as Yoda and the Secret Apprentice on the 360 version, hell yeah I'm gettin the game! I pre-ordered it!

i wouldnt really call myself a HUGE star wars fan, but i am a fan. mostly i like the KOTOR series and the Jedi Academy and that was pretty much it. it was a real bummer that i see so many star wars games out there and each of them get low or mediocre ratings. but i see this and i cant help but completely geek out about it. it kinda reminds me of how Advent Rising was-the good parts of it i should say-the action part. where you're jumping around, killing bad guys, the nonstop action. after watching the different vids of it, i think it looks very promising and will definately keep an eye on it and pray that its gonna be as awesome as it looks

This game will rock. Stop dissing on things u idiots have never played. Star wars can easily fit into the story. They both take place in the past and the star wars characters r space travelers. Soul Edge and Soul Calibur r a lot like the light and dark side of the force. These characters could have drawn there by the force. grow an imagination

You people need to save your questions for release day. It's been said MULTIPLE times that Namco will explain everything in the game itself. That aside, I REALLY can't wait to get this game.

**I thought ROTS was a fighting game.....** Nope. It was a 3rd person action game. It may have had a versus mode in it though. Either way, the only Star Wars fighting game I know of is Masters of Teras Kasi.

**I liked the previous cameo appearances, but I have to agree with Jimmulvany how does star wars have any relevancy to soul caliber??? I dunno I might have to miss this installment of SC and just get the force unleashed.** It did take place a long time ago...I just don't get how anyone else can block a lightsaber, but I can deal with that.

ist Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith considered a fighting game??????? well even if it isnt, lightsabers clash on it!

I think its cool adding the Secret Apprentice into SC4. This move on Namco-Bandai part will be good for them. Plus I think the addtion of the Star War Characters could be good also in their favor too. The cameos were great in SC2 but lets just how SC4 will do with Yoda,Darth Vader and the Secrect Apprentice now added in SC4. I can't wait for the game to drop soon.

Funkyhamster

The Yoda and D. Vader additions were cool, but the inclusion of another Star Wars character has me a little bit concerned... I'm sure that SC will retain its distinctive identity, but I don't want the attention about the Star Wars characters to overshadow the rest of the game.

One of the bonus characters used to have a cheap infinite combo, but it's been tweaked.

adding star wars characters almost made me buy this very popular title, but i just don't do fighting games. i think that lucasfilm needs to hop back on the kotor train and get the rpg fans a good game to look forward to.

abd this star wars bit while might seem cool to fanboys, is a shame to the series, i mean soul cal 2 was better than all the others, the characters were sick nasty, especially link (not a zelda fanboy, in truth i hate zelda games) i wouldve rather had heiheichi mishima, and i heard spawn though strong was a pushover

mugen_tha_dream

son of a bl+ch if i hear one more mention of sepiroth in amny fighting game i'll shl+ a brick

jimmulvaney

Wow... I have pretty much lost all respect for SoulCal... such a shame. :( I would rather have a more relevant character, or do different cameos for each platform like before, but this over abundance of SW chars makes it abundantly clear that it is just another shameless promotion. Granted that Spawn and the like had nothing to do with the game, it gave everyone a reason to try out each one on a friends console or whatever, but this is just shameless... :P

TigerstyleKB
TigerstyleKB

When they did cameo chars in the 2nd (Spawn, HeiHachi, Link) At least I felt all their stories could tie into the soul calibur series. I just think star wars chars are a big stretch. They should have just made two titles using the engine if they really have all star wars rights. That would have been twice as good. IMO. But whatever if the game is good who cares about story...right?

NearlyPrescient

sounds neat. I'd like to see all kinds of cameo characters as dlc, but i doubt that'd be profitable for any company with licenses and copyrights and such.

"aldrenar47 The whole thing is stupid. Is this a Soul Calibur game, or a Star Wars game? I'm starting to wonder. And this new guy is nothing but shameless marketing for "Force Unleashed". Apparently they care more about cash than series integrity" I beat you weren't saying it was stupid when you could play as Link, SPawn or Hienchi or whatever that old man's name is from Tekken. To answer your question. Yeah, this is a Soul Calibur game. hence the title Soul Calibur IV.
