SoulCalibur burns on iOS
Port of arcade and Dreamcast classic set for release on January 19; will feature 19 characters, multiple play modes, virtual control pad.
With SoulCalibur V hitting the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 later this month, Namco Bandai has announced that an iOS version of the original SoulCalibur will be available for purchase on January 19 on iTunes (via Andriasang).
The port will have all 19 fighters, along with features such as Arcade Battle, Time Attack, Survival, Extra Survival, Practice, and Museum modes. Survival mode, Extra Survival mode, and Time Attack mode will be compatible with the iOS's Game Center leaderboards. Like most console ports, the game features a virtual control pad for players to pull off attacks and evasive maneuvers. Namco Bandai did not disclose details about multiplayer features or the game's price.
The original SoulCalibur received critical acclaim as a Dreamcast launch title in 1999. A high-definition version of the game was also released on Xbox Live in 2008.
@Phil-teh-Pirate No problem.
@gamerboy100 Ah, I was busy reading the news on the resi 6 teaser site when I wrote this. But thanks for pointing that out.
I wish you could pre-order things on the app store
Like leeko_link said, why not 3DS or PSP or Vita. I'm sure they all can handle Dreamcast graphics
you'll need tiny fingers to play this :-)
Dammit why does every 3rd party developer in existence started turning their good games into crap. Hello 3DS and Vita still exist.
I'll stick with my perfectly working DC copy.
Playing this with a touch screen is like watching a person without balance or rhythm attempt to play DDR .... it just doesnt work
I can tell you one thing, controlling a "virtual control" on a touchscreen is awfully awkward and shotty. I tried out a Mega Man II demo on my iPhone and it just didn't work at all trying to maneuver the Blue Bomber.
Soon to be subtitled Soul Caliber: The Crappy version. :P
@g1rldraco7 I respond to your comment with no comment.
I both excited and upset about this. Soul Calibur on Dreamcast was certainly the best fighter I had ever played and still stands as my favorite of all time. I downloaded Street Fighter IV on iOS and was dissapointed in the flow of the game. Sure, it works well, but all the virtual buttons make it hard to get the timing just right. They really should have reconsidered the control options for this "port" and looked at ways to introduce gestures into a fighting game on a mobile touch screen. I'll probably buy SC on iOS just because, but I'm thinking I won't be spending much time on it mostly due to the controls.
@Phil-teh-Pirate Capcom didn't make SoulCalibur. It was made by Namco.
What a great day to have an iphone..... but really, playing games when your controller blocks out the picture is just annoying, and not terribly practical. Doom is incredibly hard to play despite it being pretty much my favorite game, even to this day. Which is sad. :\
I'm drooling for Soul Calibur to come to Android. It's one of the games that made me get a Sega Dreamcast back in 2000. Hell, I loved Soul Blade for PS1 just as much.
HDify the original Soul Blade (Soul Edge) and release it for £5 or £8 on consoles and you've got a winner Capcom.
If you don't like it, no one's telling you have to buy it...
No Way! Im sure controls would be annoying hard and inaccurate!
SC graphics was amazing for its time. My, how have times changed... I would love to see this out on the Android market so I can play it on my Droid 3.
@Superzone: You're right. It is on XBLA.
What im gonna say is not gonna please someone i am sure, but for real, i'm sick of this IoS videogames invasions. Phones are meant to be used for calls, txts, pictures and mabe internet and some other stuff. Leave pro gaming to home and handled consoles ffs, stop with this sucky choppy ports!!
I don't even want to imagine what playing this on a touch screen is like with a virtual control pad. The entire concept is silly to me. Would rather blow the dust off the old Dreamcast and play the original.
I would prefer a release on PSN. I believe it's on Xbox Live Arcade already.
