Sony showing off pearly white PS2--in Japan
Sony will be releasing a shiny albino summer model of its console this summer across the Pacific.
TOKYO--Sony Computer Entertainment announced it will be releasing a "Pearl White" limited-edition summer color model of the PlayStation 2 in Japan on July 15. While Sony released a similar color called "Ceramic White" in the winter and spring, the company explained that the new model will be glazed, giving it a pearly sheen.
The Pearl White PS2 (SCPH-50000 PW) will retail at 20,790 yen ($192), the same price as the normal black model. The machine will not have an iLink extension nor will it come with a DVD remote control, and gamers will have to purchase a PlayStation 2 Broadband unit to play online. Additional Pearl White controllers will be available for purchase separately for 2,940 yen ($27), as well as a vertical stand for 1,575 yen ($14).
