too bad it's only british pricing... official dutch ps3 site stated that resitance fall of men would retail for 59,95Euros, but I could not find it any cheaper than 65,- Euros (that is 5,-Euros more than average Xbox360 game)
PlayStation 3 titles to be 59.99 euros in Europe, £39.99 in UK.
Sony has announced the recommended retail pricing for its first-party PS3 titles. The console is due to launch across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Oceania on March 23.
The games will clock in at £39.99 (approximately $78) in the UK, making them cheaper than Xbox 360 games (which retail at around £49.99) and the same price as Wii titles. In Australia, the games will be AU$99.95, and in New Zealand they will be NZ$109.95.
Sony has five first-party titles for the European launch: MotorStorm, Resistance: Fall of Man, Ridge Racer 7, Genji: Days of the Blade, and Formula One Championship Edition.
The company also announced the pricing for games downloadable on the PlayStation Network--including Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, flOw, BlastFactor, and Super Rub-A-Dub--these will cost between 2.99 and 9.99 euros (approx £2 to £8).
Other first-party content can also be bought over the Network, with prices starting at 0.99 euros (70p). This "could range from a new SingStar track to a premium pack for MotorStorm, which would include a new track, additional vehicles, liveries, and multiplayer modes."
Commenting on the launch, SCEE CEO David Reeves said, "With over 30 first- and third-party disc and network games available at launch, we are confident that this will be one of the most successful launches of all time."
I think that this is great. PS3 titles being 40 quid is a real boost for Sony. Many people said that the titles would cost 50, even 60 pounds but somehow, Sony managed to make them cheaper than Xbox 360's measley little DVDs, and the same price as Wii discs. Oh and by the way 'puppiemaster' is wrong and can't make a good point.
demkh That blows the ps3 games are cheaper than the 360 games and at the same price as the Wii games. They should adjust the prices our way too. Gamespot are wrong, its the same price as 360 games and £5 dearer than Wii games. In fact you can pick up Excite Truck for £27 in ASDA in the UK, + lots of the first generation games for the 360 are now £25.
"Commenting on the launch, SCEE CEO David Reeves said, "With over 30 first- and third-party disc and network games available at launch, we are confident that this will be one of the most successful launches of all time." Hahahahahah, ouch, make them stop!
"Tellyn: I'm pretty sure Sony aren't making any profit from their games and consoles. " Not there own games maybe with the development costs, but as they get a licence fee from every game sold they make a chunk on other companies games.
I remember a while back when ppl were guessing they would be at leats $140 AUD, Well at lest theres one less thing for ppl to moan about at the moment.
FANTASTIC! That's pretty much what they've always been. I paid £40 for FF8 in the day. I'm impressed.
at last, a silver lining; so although the console costs more initially, most serious gamers will make the money back over time from the money saved on games - especially given the predicted life span of the console.
That blows the ps3 games are cheaper than the 360 games and at the same price as the Wii games. They should adjust the prices our way too.
Zeke129 "That's cheaper than what we pay for next-gen games in Canada. And we say that Sony screws Europe over..." ------- Dude, where do you shop??? New games in Canada range from $59-$69 CAD. £39.99= $91.4799 CAD 59.99 euros = $92.5115 CAD All I can say is, man, Europeans are RICH!
Any and all patches/firmware updates are available online for free. Sony is still dressing up their online store, but I've downloaded quite a few trailers and playable demos. It's a great feature, but I hope they improve it by adding many more game titles, including full movies and MP3's. Motorstorm is coming soon....race on!!!
hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha haha. Enough said.
Well if Sony are gonna have online downloadable 'patches' or whatever you call them to run old PS2 games it had better be free. If they can do it for Gran Turismo HD they can do it for BC.
i live in Europe (Belgium exactly) and i think they let the prices go down here in Europe because we don't get the emotion chip and that is not so cool because i hav allot of PS2 games and now i might not get to play them on the PS3
StumpyTrash wrote: ''I just don't get the insane pricing structure for any of the systems. Why does it cost more for games overseas? Shouldn't it be less than the US?'' Its mainly to do with curreny and inflation differences. The pound is equivalent to $1.9 US dollars, so once the cost of something in the UK has been converted into US dollars it will seem more expensive. But, even taking that into consideration games and consoles are more expensive in the UK, which is bizzare given that most are not even produced there.
sorry gamespot dudes, but the 360 games are selling at £39.99 now and some are £29.99, but that is a nice starting price for sony games.
I just don't get the insane pricing structure for any of the systems. Why does it cost more for games overseas? Shouldn't it be less than the US?
Ansem_Rev it is very obvious ur insecure that is why u a are trying to prove something but i don't see your point.
how much is the MACHINE!?? and how many GOOD GAMES U GOT? O that's right i'm still playing GEARS OF WAR! and um... HALO 3 !!! Good luck sony. get some real franchises of your own ATV offroad got old after its demo. P.S don't click my username
I guess they're hoping that their Japan and US releases pay for most of the development costs, leaving Europe as mostly profit. Well, looks like there's finally a perk to getting everything last besides advanced warning on game quality through Japanese and US reviews.
But this has a price, no more backward compatibility except some game in the library, exactly like the 360
Still getting ripped off.(the UK) be getting raped, by those video game priceses(both the PS3 and 360 games)
Sony does something right this time around. Good job with the game pricing I'd say; it's gotta be tough to put the game price tags as the same as the Wii's games.
That's cheaper than what we pay for next-gen games in Canada. And we say that Sony screws Europe over...
DLUX85 geez, i didn't realize the brits pay $100 for 360 games. sucks for them. We dont, only stupid people pay that and gamestation customers, Crackdown is £37 in ASDA, Excite Truck is £27 in ASDA, most 360 games are £39.99 and most Wii games are £34.99, personally I buy my games on Ebay, just got Lost Planet for £25, Lego Star Wars 2 for £17 and Crackdown for £26, much better prices for brand new games
