Conversely, I *want* ports. The PSP/DS argument breaks down to what you want out of a handheld system; do you want a brand-new, exclusive experience that you can't get anywhere else, or do you want a console experience on a handheld? The DS delivers the former, the PSP the latter. And personally, while I have and enjoy my DS, I love my PSP more because it can give me that console experience on the go, divorced of a television and console. That's what I've wanted in a handheld ever since the original spinach-colored Gameboy. Po-tay-to, po-tah-to.
Latest downloadable revision includes animated, graphic RSS content, upgraded support for media playback; game demo released in Japan.
Sony released another firmware update to its PlayStation Portable today, upgrading the handheld's support for RSS and playback of multimedia.
The 2.80 update can be installed directly through the PSP using the System Update feature while connected to the Internet, although the Sony PSP's System Update page, where PSP owners can usually download the updates to a Memory Stick to install them, had not been updated as of press time.
The main features are support for animated and graphical content through RSS (really simple syndication) channels and an update to the LocationFree player, allowing hardware registration through wireless LAN access points. To simplify life a bit for the multimedia junkies, the PSP will now recognize media saved in music, picture, and video folders in the root directory, as well as AAC music files with the .3gp extension. Last but not least, a demo of the puzzle game Tama-Run has been added to the portable system's download page--but only in Japan.
...PSP can't do anything to delay the inevitable victory of the Nintendo DS...oh well...at least the PS3 will win the console wars...oops...I forgot...it'll stink horribly...go Nintendo and Microsoft...
psp is going to become way better. Im really excited about the official Ps1 emulator for psp. I can't wait to play MGS on PSP and Final Fantasy XII. GO PSP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"BajenVaNamnet PSP gets better and better! " Your right. I guess that is why sales are down 40 percent while DS sales are up by over 300 percent( true statement as per new gamespot article).
Of course umd sales were going to go under there only a few million psp out there and comapnys were releasing absolutly every movie for the thing ofcourse only some would sell well, i enjoyed family guy season 1 and 2 that was definetly worth my money. Dosent mean the psp sucks just that umd sales suck.
people keep saying that there are too many ports for the psp, so then dont buy the ports, and there are lots of psp games that arn't ports (Daxter, Exit Twisted Metal Head On, Whipout Pure, ect.) I know there are alot of ports, but how many psp games do u need. And the psp is so good, that ps2 games can be ported to a psp and be almost the same (except for long loading times. Also if u like ds, then thats fine but dont come into the psp fourm and just type psp sucks, cause u dont have anything to support ur comment. Also i agree that umd movies suck, cause y would u buy them when u can put movies on ur memory stick? The UMD movies are failing, but the games are great and umd is a great portable format. Also the ds may be selling more then the psp, but the psp costs more, so every psp sold they get more money, then every ds sold, so it is not as big f a difference.
lol guys buy the two systems and that is it god I got both and they are both great!!, actually I got the PSP and thinking about buying the Ds Lite tomorow ahahaha PsP better give me some good games soon and NO PORTS or crapy metal gear solid turn strategy game! (when I got that game I neally got a heart atack) Lumines is the only game I am enjoing and the only thing I am playing. Lara croft is okish but the loading times and again ITS A PORT could be playing it on pc or ps2 and be happy like a cow eating grass! Give me something original that I can enjoy with the psp... I am thinking about giving the psp to my small brother he could enjoy the toy (yes I call it toy its anoying)
There will be no more UMD movies at Target stores in the US, the retailer confirmed yesterday. Apparently, the sales were so bad that retailers are loosing a lot of money - there?s little interest in watching movies on the PSP. Analysts have predicted this outcome, and it?s only a matter of time before other [?] and now i'll say it PSP SUCKS!!!!!!
Man, I love reading the comments to these articles. The stuff ppl from the opposing camp come up with is great. Non-stop laughs for at least 10 minutes without a single valid point.
Are you fanboys ever gonna say something useful, or just keep posting the same junk as last time? You're not doing anything any good.
(Post didn't register, completely, so I must finish in this second one.) However, there is one point that I must address... "-Metroid Hunters was HORRID when it came to controls." - And in this warped world that you live in, PC FPS must be the bottom end of the genre, correct? Seriously, I can't help but question your bearings on reality after you condemn possibly the only console game that came close to simulating the PC-level FPS articulation onto a mere hand-held. Metroid Prime: Hunters, was a bloody revolution within a mere game - a game that managed to offer shooter fans a solid PC-like feel while playing the game. Yes, it rocks indeed, and no amount of raves, including even spewing the cure for world hunger, could ever refute this virtual fact: Metroid Prime: Hunters is amazing.
...yes! Come together; you're all gamers at the end of the day! Let not this corporate competition contaminate your common appreciation for video game entertainment. Damn, that did sound cheesy, but it's true! Enjoy the games, and enjoy this common ground with one another; in the greater world, you people are all fans of the same... art/craft/whatever. However, there is one point that I must address... "-Metroid Hunters was HORRID when it came to controls."
just what is the cause of this beef u DS users have over psp? Why all the hate? Do the psp players bother you guys? Or is it you're just retaliating because the PSP users said the DS sucked? Who threw the first stone? GIVE IT A REST PPL this fanboy war will have no end. What? you guys expect the psp players to just bow down and say, yes the DS is better and starts selling of their psp to buy a DS? PSP players, do you expect vice versa to happen with the DS players? LAME LAME LAME. This fanboy war is getting too stupid and tiresome. Neither platforms suck. Nothing is perfect in this world. If you think you deserve to call any of the platforms sucky, then go and start your own game company and build one system to pwn all the other platforms. Huh!
To those bastards who are hating the psp, listen up! 1. I own a psp and ds lite and I'm enjoying it! 2. There are classic games that'll only come to the psp like Super Ghouls N Ghost, Power Stone, and Megaman X classics. 3. At least u can keep the downloadable demos as long as u want. And last but not least to all the haters of PSP and DS, I have one thing to say: SCREW YOU AND GET A LIFE!!!
...doesn't really matter. This was about firmwares, and once again, it's turned into a spittle-fest of utterly useless opines regarding an equally useless competition between NDS and PSP. Two very different machines - two very different concepts. Stop it, please. To the Sony Fanatics: NDS is a far more balanced machine, and no amount of lip-service for Kutaragi's evil empire will alter this fact, or alter some glaring flaws in the PSP design. To the Nintendo Fanatics: PSP is a unit with greater multimedia potential, and the NDS "gamers" can stick that in their pipe and smoke it. You claim more quality games and fun, then stick with what you have; PSP is a different machine, and while it may not have the best quality titles for the buck, it certainly has its own charm and quality as a handheld phenom. Yes, I also own each of them; I don't really enjoy these firmware updates for the PSP, but whatever. I've got the NDS as my fun-factor supplement.
I'm With DRUNK_CANADIAN on this. Lets be honest - the PSP sucks. And I'll go ahead and add that the DS was a pretty poor idea too. There is nothing on the PSP I WANT to play. -Sure, GTA is on it, but that's for GTA fans. -Wow, Tekken? Sorry, I don't like Tekken. -Lots and lots of BS RPGs. I'll pass. -Daxter? Never really liked the Jak games. -UMD Movies with less content at a greater price than DVDs? Hell no! -Barely any content in game; painfully long load times; stupid expensive games and hardware. Screw you Sony. -Your console may have been good, but this was by far the stupidest thing you could have done. Sony is so headstrong about the PS3 that they just forgot about the handheld. -Speaking of consoles, isn't that what you were trying to do with the PSP? Make console quality games? Then WHY is there only 1 joystick/pad. It's not like there isn't enough room on the thing. Some of the games might not have been so BAD if you had added 1 more joystick. Furthermore, if Sony dares to rerelease the PSP with added hardware on it, I will vomit on my PSP, bring it back to the store, and ask them to get Sony on the phone so I can cuss them out. DONT PULL THAT NINTENDO CRAP ON ME! -BTW; My PSP still works, but I'm thinking about the effects a baseball bat has on it. -Nintendo, what makes you most of your money? The GAMEBOY. So why would you go, trash you new Gameboy idea, and come up with the DS? -The touch screen feature i could live with, but 2 screens? Why? I had way more fun on my GBA than ANY game on the DS. -Just make a Gameboy with 4 buttons, a D-pad, add some shoulder buttons, make it a flip-top, and make it comfortable in my hand. -Make sure you keep doing that awesome 2-D graphics thing, hell, i could stand 3-D games with 2-D gameplay. THAT STUFF IS GREAT! -Make it cheap, back-lit, built-in battery, and wireless connections. -DS games aren't all that innovative or great. -Metroid Hunters was HORRID when it came to controls. -The Mario Kart game BARELY used the touch-screen, but was still awesome! -In fact, the only games I played that used the touch-screen, and did it well were Kirby and Brain Age. -It was a bad idea that you went ahead and ran with. Shame on you Nintendo. - To anyone who reads this, don't try to come up with a counter argument. There aren't any games I would rather play on my PSP or the DS over a console title or my GBA games.
jared_delacruz Wrote: OMG those who say psp sucks lol. and yeah firmware 1.5 forever! for those who know why!! Heh, those days were over when LCS came out for me.
Its time for me to end this fanboy crap.... PSP AND DS are both good in their respective fields I could elaborate but Id just get spammed by fan morons All about preferance, what you like decides what you believe is better Btw i own PSP andd luv it
I play my psp all the time and love it more than a ds lite or a regular one, ooh, it's brighter, well the psp was bright to begin with, and the ds just has a bunch of minigames, (for instance advance wars, or warioware) but just take a look at games like socom with 16 people playing with you, or burnout legends with FULL MUSIC not just the sound fx. and look at tekken that looks awesome, so does mgs portable ops, it's solid not acid. (finally) the psp is more in depth, and i have a 1gb mem stick with about 20 videos on it! along with about 9 Albums, ALBUMS!! and more than 100 pics on it!!
nice to see that i and most friends around my age or older seem to be in the pre-teen crowd, getting 30 next year, the older you get the better it feels to be guessed a little younger... anyway, i desperately wanted a ds and imported it, later i got a psp, too and indeed, it's technically far more powerful than the ds and the display is just awesome, there's some decent games, including wipeout pure, gta lcs or locoroco around that save it from only being a sexy looking movie- and mp3-player with a web-browser. when it comes to gaming though, i rather use my ds - it opened completely new ways of playing that even (or possibly even especially) gamers who played on several generations of videogame consoles appreciate a lot. and nintendo always had kind of a magic touch to make games fun in the first place. i don't like sony's aggressive attitude really, the longer the more i think they make it for the money (seems they have to, since their other segments are not healthy at all), while i do believe nintendo that they love to play their own games.
When is the psp web browser gonna be able to play Vids on like Youtube and othersites like sendadis.com cuz i want to show ppl vids on the go cuz i cant have ppl over!
ssjtrunks6 Sony did not steal nintendos idea nintendo stole sony's ...for instance, now the DS will be able to browse the web, and other new things that will be happening, just because developers do something similar to other developers does not mean they stole it,, gah just grow up with that nonsense. ---- So let me get this straight, just because companies do similer things doesn't mean they stole from another company. But Nintendo stole the web browser from Sony?
I have to say this, yeah some updates, are...well to me useless, like i dont really see the difference in what the update was used for.. but I like updating my psp, and the updates, will not stop as long as new technology changes, so the updates will keep coming
sony1978a wrote: I meant internal memorey not memorey stick. I allready have 2 gig sony Memorey stick. Plus i LOVE PSP i never said it sux,is just thaere few thing's in there that need FIX.Must add more memorey for Browser cache.Alow us to play all Audio and video Format's just like PC dos with out converting them :/ i dont want waste my time on converting formats so that i can play them on my PSP. Thats why i asked you guys how hard is it to make a DVD-BD-HD-DVD Players to play All the AUDIO AND VIDEO FORMATS with out converting is not that hard is it? but $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ allways comes first!!!!!!!!!!!!! first off: YES it is that hard to make something compatable with all of those formats. (especially something as small as the PSP) second: the PSP does NOT have a DVD-BD-HD-DVD player/drive. WTF are you even talking about? third: If you'd look up some info on converting audio and video formats (mostly video) the programs that you'll find usually cost 30-50$. That's gotta tell you something about it right there. I know it's a hassle to convert stuff just so you can play it on your PSP, but think about it. When it first came out i didn't even think it was going to play the ones it does well. And now they've updated the list pretty well. Sure, there's still a few key ones missing, but they're working on it ( I suppose). They've also got their hands full with the supposed new web browser that i too am hoping will allow you to cache stuff off the memory stick as well so you can finially stream video and audio.
Man, all Sony needs now is to make it possible to conect to a wireless local server and it'll be friggin awesome!
I LOVE MY PSP, IS A GREAT SYSTEM AND I LOVE MY GAMES, WHERE ELSE CAN YOU PLAY BURNOUT LIKE IT WAS MEANT TO BE??? TEKKEN, ULTIMATE GHOST & GOBLINS, RIDGE RACER, LUMINES 2 , INTELLIGENCE LICENCE, MERCURY WICH BY THE WAY IS A GREEEEEEEEEEEEAAAATT GAME, OUT RUN 2006 COAST TO COAST, SSX ON TOUR, WRC, SOCOM FIRETEAM BRAVO, METAL GEAR PORTABLE OPS, COLIN MCRAE RALLY , TOCA RACING, SYPHON FILTER, LOCO ROCO, ETC.ETC. , AND WHEN I HAVE TO GO AWAY FROM MY HOUSE I CAN STILL PLAY MY PRINCE OF PERSIA AND FEEL LIKE IM IN MY LIVING ROOM, THANK GOD, FOR A GREAT GREAT PORTABLE.
Most of the people that own a PSP, are the older generation of teenagers, because they prefer the newer generation graphics, the DS, goes back to like the N64 and ps1 graphics, that is old news....go new gens
Sony did not steal nintendos idea nintendo stole sony's ...for instance, now the DS will be able to browse the web, and other new things that will be happening, just because developers do something similar to other developers does not mean they stole it,, gah just grow up with that nonsense
the psp is an awesome machin, capable of great things, now all it needs is some origional games that arent just ports...as for sony stealing nintendos idea for tilt, did anybody remember that there was a tilt force released on the ps1 which the ps3 controler is based off of.
All i can say is this....updating can be a problem for those who update the update for the out dated...there i said it.
it's a nice machine but i'm starting to hate it because of the lak of good games and expensive memory sticks(damm them) but still it is an advance peace of equipment but just make a god damm good RPG for it (Final fantasy Crisis Core where are you).
ive got a long story to tell but the gist of it is i had a ds, wasnt impressed with the game library sold it bought psp been happy since but the only reason id get a ds again is for NSMB but i doubt thatll happen, considering the money issue but then again, you never know maybe ill be able to own both! but hey i love the new upgrades, and as for the homebrew issue i dont mind it, all the games i would ever want to homebrew i have at my house so yeah, uhh thats about it WHOOOOOO PSP!!
