Sony exec opposed to blocking used games, says analyst

May only buy one system next gen if xbox decides to do that stupid anti used games nonsense.  Just hoope sony fixes the analog sticks though lol

The industry and consumers need the used game market. If these company's are losing money, it is not from the used game market.

More ways of ripping you off and you can't see it. Get real. Why shouldn't we be able to trade games in or sell them to someone else. You can do it with just about anything else. 

Also how many game outlets survive now on trade ins and resales.

Yea, I can't remember the last time I could willingly drop $60+ dollars on a game without worrying that I might really need that money a week later.

 @FollowY0urBliss   Second hand game sales need to be restricted just as much as second hand car sales, or second hand book sales, or second hand clothes sales.  I'll let you draw your own conclusion of my opinion there.  Should be pretty obvious.  I refuse to pay $60 for 6 hours of play.

Of course blocking used games are unfair to consumers!  This is the same as on-disk DLCs!

Make a quality game and I will buy brand new. Force me to pay top dollar for a sub par game and I just continue playing my quality game and won't buy your product period.

Second-hand game sales NEED to be RESTRICTED next gen.  There are a LOT of reasons why.  And a LOT of them will end up benefiting the gamer's.  I just wish more people realized this.

I love how Brendan ends all these articles with the list of those who have come out for blocking used games.  Its as if to say "Hey people, don't forget these people would love for you not to be able to buy their game used" so we can remember who not to support.

If they get rid of pre-owed games, there not only going to piss us all off, they?re going to kill the rental market. A lot of the time I will rent games to see what they are like and buy them if there any good. They cannot say pre-owed purchase are a lots sales, a lot of gamers that buy pre-owed games would not have got them if they needed to pay RRP(£40+).

Tretton  is on the right line, it's just "anti-consumer"

If they stop pre-owed games being sold, there will be a jump in piracy.

I won't be getting any console that blocks used games. I fear if they do this it would result in a lot of money lost and maybe a industry crash.

Has anyone noticed everything about the next gen consoles are negative as hell. Blocking used games, touch screen controls, constant internet connection, price,... the list goes on. Maybe just maybe what is going on is the next gen consoles are just plain weak and not much of an upgrade at all so they are throwing out all these rumors so when it is launched without all these negative things ppl will do nothing but praise them. Honestly I dont see the next gen consoles being some significant leap foward like the PS2 - PS3 leap. For Sony this is going to be a huge gamble for them considering how far in the hole they are I hope they get it right...

I think out of ms and sony sony is more likely to block used games as they joined ea with the online pass. however if this is true and sony don't do it i don't think anyone will and that is a good thing because it is exactly right blocking used is anti consumer.  even the online pass are anti consumer though And both are big attacks on retailers.  so on one hand this top sony guy says no to blocking used game which is good but on the other hand his company does the lame online pass thing. well i will wait and see what happens but if ms or sony block used games then that machine won't sell. i really think though if it happens sony will be the blockers of used. how ever if ms do it and sony don't sony will win however if sony do it and ms don't ms will win next time round however if they both do it i know i for one won't buy either i will never support a console that blocks used and attacks retailers and isanti consumer.even though i usually buy new.

Lol, now he's got everyone on side, it's time to unvail the plan for download only games that has a limit to how many accounts it can be on.

On a more serious note, I wouldn't mind if they just make the downloadable versions a decent amount cheaper than the disc based copys... Seriously Mass Effect 3 on the PSN is £50... The disc can be bought (new and sealed) for £20... Makes no sense.

If used games are blocked next generation then I will refuse to buy any of the offending hardware. I don't need another console anyway, nothing will buy me back once they decide to block used games, NOTHING.

You forgot to mention the spineless Cliffy B is against anything that doesn't swell his bank account and ego. The guy already drives a friggin Lamborghini, yet he's the greediest of them all. Cliffy B is just a working class developer at Epic, not even the owner, and he's filthy rich. That right there tells me they're not hurting for money because of used game sales. I used to like Cliffy B. I thought he was down to earth like the rest of us. All it took was for him to open his fat mouth and start flapping his gums for his true colors to shine through. From that point on I detest him and Epic, being he's actually reciting the company motto: Grab em by the ankles and shake their pockets empty till their pants fall off.

Good for Sony for once.If they keep with this attitude they may win me over when the PS4 comes out.Take Heed Microsoft if you block used game sales it will be the grave for the Xbox brand.I am for anti-piracy,but not to the extent of stopping used game sales.They can find another way and if EA keeps on charging for online play on used games I will move on to other developers.

If $ony & M$ pull this, I guarentee it will hurt their sales worst them PS3 & 360 Outtage lol.

1 for one will be buying the Wii U, and shm @ the other 2 gaming consoles next Gen lol.

I'm not really too bothered about having used sales, I'm more of a collector than just a guy looking to use games as a quick fix hobby who buys and sells every game he owns but I think it's good Sony is on the side of the consumer. It sucks they pull stupid moves like proprietary memory cards on the vita but when it comes to the consoles you see things like free online and if we're lucky no banning of used game sales / use like they are mentioning here. Sony should try and annoy it's fans as little as possible since they do it quite often (price of PS3 at launch, Vita proprietary cards, sixaxis / DS3 milarky, removing linux for all users and backwards compatibility removal only to start selling old games on the PS store etc.) but it's nice they get it right now and again.

If they don't block used games and have free online play again next gen while microsoft keeps charging I think I'll jump ship (for majority of game purchases anyway, I still like to own all consoles since I generally like the exclusives).

With the back and forth of banning and not banning used games, this just seems like the ploy to just look good too the public. When we finally see new specs of either Sony or microsofts system, that's when we all as"consumers" can breath a sigh of relief. So until then we'll just have to wait and see

Well to all the people saying used game sales hurt the devs explain this back in the day people bought and traded games alot and guess what the stupid devs got rich still cause guess what you can't get a used game if no one buys a new game think hard ret@rds all it s now is devs wanting more money cause they're greedy little b@st@rds that don't wanna make games that people will keep look at these games morrowind,oblivion,skyrim,devil may cry 1 and 3 and jak and daxter 1,2,3 I've got them all and won't get rid of them cause they're actually good games but I'm not going to hold on to crappy games like every rehashed cod game its the devs fault not the customers so if they want more money make better games and stop being a crybaby caused no one likes your rehashed game.
