Sonic Lost World announced for Wii U and 3DS

Nintendo announces partnership with Sega for upcoming Sonic titles.

Nintendo has announced Sonic Lost World as the first title of a new, exclusive partnership between the Mario creator and Sega for its upcoming Sonic titles.

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata unveiled the game during today's Nintendo Direct conference, calling the game an action adventure platformer exclusive to Wii U and 3DS.

More information about the game will be made available prior to E3 2013, Iwata said.

Iwata also announced the latest title in the Mario & Sonic series, set at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. The game, shown running on Wii U, features new events such as figure skating pairs and snowboard slopestyle.

The Wii U GamePad was also shown to be used for the curling event, with players having to brush the GamePad screen as the event plays out on the television.

The game will also feature dream events, allowing for the creation of fictional courses set across the Mario and Sonic universes and mixed event courses that are not part of the Winter Olympic Games.

Nintendo also announced the addition of more classic Sonic and Sega titles to the Wii U eShop in the future.

Nintendo will not be hosting its own press conference at E3 2013, but says it will hold another Nintendo Direct conference before the Los Angeles trade show begins.

Sonic Lost World is not the first recent Sonic title to be exclusive to a Nintendo platform. 2010's Sonic Colours was Wii and DS exclusive, though its follow-up Sonic Generations was multi-platform.

Bout time, after 20 articles of people saying they won't make games for Wii-U, someone says they will!

But some fool at EA told me that Nintendo should make third party games like Sega.

I hope this will be a great exclusive for the wiiU owners. Personally this isn't a console maker for me... but sonic did always make a fun game for my kids

As a huge Sonic fan from the good old Green Hill days, I don't care! My desire was already fulfilled playing Generations.

im currently playing sonic 3 on my genesis and so far its my favorite of the old sonics, love the michael jackson music in the game. I wish they could get sonic back to the way he was but for this age

Please don't make my buy another Nintendo console I'll have no more than 3 games for :(

@cf_Kage It isn't so bad. I am only going to own one game on my Wii U once I buy it. Smash Bros.

It is all I owned on my Wii and I don't have any regrets. I use my PC for gaming, and my modern Nintendo devices for Smash Bros.

That's your fault if you have no more than 3 games for unless you're extremely picky.

cf_Kage

@abHS4L88 @cf_Kage Well, as an example; For the Wii, I have Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Returns, Zelda Skyward Sword, and Wii Fit, Wii Sports.
That is my entire collection.
All the third party games I'd rather buy on either my Xbox 360 or PS3 dependant on quality

@abHS4L88 @cf_Kage Such as Zak and Wiki, that game was awesome. Imagine if there was a sequel for the Wii U. Ah, I can only dream.

Did you at least check out the games that the Wii had? There were plenty of strong 3rd party games, they just didn't get that much attention. There were even a lot of 1st party games you might have overlooked.

@abHS4L88 @cf_Kage i think that since there 3rd party support is so low they need more teams at nintendo to put out more games more often

Pretty sure all the high profile titles will make it worldwide. Operation Rainfall was a wake up call to more than just Nintendo.

Actually the Wii U has a lot more 3rd party support than people realize, everyone's just super quick to jump on the "Wii U has no 3rd party support" boat since about 4-5 developers have said they're not supporting the system, yet we have nearly every major Japanese developer supporting the system, some European developers, a few American and a lot of Indie developers supporting the platform.

I don't know how many people remember but "Lost World" was one of my favorite levels from Sonic Adventure so I'm curious to see the setting of this game.

If SEGA remembers how awesome Colors was as opposed to Generations (which was still well made but I hated how they removed Sonic's 2nd jump and completely held back on content) then definitely. Then again, I've always been a huge Sonic fan and if I'm going to admit to being a fanboy of any company, it's SEGA. I want to replay Colors (after I finish some other games first).

@Meta_Dragon

Indeed, especially since you've never played it. I warn you though, the game is freaking challenging and can be outright brutal if you're not prepared or careful. My 3 favorite weapons are the Long Sword (Katana), Sword & Shield and Twin Blades, obviously I'm a speed type fighter.

Tee hee, I was just joking, it should be pretty obvious anyways. I won't be home for another 5 hours though X_X almost done with work but I have a performance to go to, then a church event.

Hmm, the only games I have (to play online) are Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. :D

@abHS4L88 @Meta_Dragon How do i know? I have asked a few questions on the WiiU before, and you answered them. So i am assuming you have one :)

Okay, i sent the friend request :) My WiiU name is Metadragon. Hopefully we can play a game together sometime. ^_^

How'd you know I have a Wii U? Lol, sure but I haven't had much time to play it lately, plus my gaming has been primarily focused on my 3DS since I got Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward.

AB88INC4L, let me know if you can add me because I've been having trouble lately adding people.

@abHS4L88 @Meta_Dragon Mmkay, that makes sense. I did like Colors a lot. So hopefully Sega will recapture the fun of it! :D

Also, kind of an odd question, but do you mind if i add you to WiiU friends list? I just got mine and im looking for other people that have it :)

I guess with Sonic, Yakuza, and Bayonetta, this Sega and Nintendo partnership goes a lot further than I previously thought.

Here comes Sonic the Hedgehog to rescue his former rival console.

Just kidding.  Sonic games aren't good anymore, and a Sonic game won't save the sinking ship that is the WiiU.

@fatee

So true. The ONLY advantage MarioKart 7 has over Transformed is that it handles a bit better, but overall, Transformed has more interesting mechanics (especially the environment shifting), far more depth (seriously, that game takes a LOT of skill to master and can go pretty damn fast), insanely challenging (CPUs are cruel), and I like how they do the SEGA all star cast for the roster. Nintendo has a lot to match up to with their next MarioKart entry.
