Sega Sammy lists two more versions of mascot's upcoming 20th anniversary adventure in annual financial presentation; release set for this winter.
It appears Sonic Generations will be running on more platforms than previously thought. In its annual financial results presentation, Sega parent company Sega Sammy listed PC and 3DS editions of the game alongside the already announced Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions. All versions of the game were listed with a winter 2011 release window.
The game might mark the 3DS debut of Sega's iconic speedster. While the publisher has previously announced Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games for the platform, it has not committed to a release window yet. The original Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games arrived on the Wii in November of 2007 and on the DS in January of 2008, even though the Beijing Olympics they were tied to didn't kick off until August of 2008.
When it arrives, Sonic Generations will commemorate Sonic the Hedgehog's 20th anniversary. Therefore, Sega will be touching upon three different treatments of its fleet-footed mascot, beginning with the classic 2D side-scrolling age and progressing to the hedgehog's 3D adventures. Specifically, these eras are the 2D Genesis days, 3D's introduction with the Dreamcast, and then today's modern HD graphics phase.
Sega has rebuilt a number of levels from games gone by for Sonic Generations, and players will be able to speed through these stages in 2D and 3D perspectives. Sonic's abilities will also depend on the incarnation that players choose, as the spin dash and spin attacks will be open to Sonic 2D, while his 3D persona will be able to use the homing attack and sonic boost abilities.

shut the hell up ppl piracy is present on xbox 360 ps3 and wii as well!!!! and i bet u 3ds will(or already got) get cracked soon! so that is not the reason for pc neglection PC is the big boy of gaming and capable of much higher graphics! (i'd love to see a sonic game with dx11)
who cares if this pile of rat feces got canceled for pc? It's just another one of those generic games that you finish in 10 seconds and then never play it again. Games like starcraft II where you play for years and decades are games that are truly worthy of being on the pc, not this weak turd.
Playing as the classic sonic will be awesome! I hope they implement special stages that are also designed for the two Sonics. I liked the special stages in Sonic the Hedgehog 3(classic sonic stage) as well as the special stages in Sonic Heroes(modern sonic stage).
Piracy happens everywhere on everything, it's just a matter of how frequent it is. It is a lot more frequent on PC because of how easy it is. Yes, it can be done on other consoles without physically modifying the the system but it's still not as popular compared to pc piracy. Fact of the matter is; if there was more money to be made out of traditional PC gaming, companies would go on and release more traditional titles for the platform. They go where the money is. On pc, unfortunately, single player games like this are in fact piracy haven and most developers know it. Only multiplayer models are profitable for the platform.
@Joe295159: This line of thinking that you and many publishers have is the reason why the PC platform is very often neglected and/or deprived of many great titles. I wish that stigma of it being some sort of piracy haven would just die. Piracy happens on consoles too and in the case of certain ones like the PS3, you don't even have to physically modify your system in any way. In other words, piracy shouldn't be the ONLY reason not to release a game on a specific platform (but sadly it is the primary deal-breaker in some cases).
Releasing the game on pc is just an invitation for piracy. Hopefully it won't affect their sales too much.
If there will be a 3DS version of Sonic Generation, which would be awesome, than hopefully the game will come out 2011 for the 3DS as well.
yes sega listened, a nintendo platform thats right sega better listen , il lbe getting this one on 3ds ,
Mmmmm.... gameplay looks similar to sonic: unleashed. So it took sonic :unleashed to figure out where sonic belongs. sonic colors too.
So is this a remake that uses the new semi-retro gamestyle? If they included every level in order across all of the old Sonics, including the two adventure games -- this would be the greatest game ever made.
im so getting this, i love all Sonic Genesis games and his Adventures, but rest have been a little bad, but this looks amazing, just hope they dont screw up at the last minute
On the 3DS? Cool, there's not enough available for the 3DS at the moment. Finally, I can play something on my 3DS that isn't a port or regular DS game :)
Hmmm I'm split on whether or not to get either the console or 3DS version (providing the game isn't crap)
PC huh? That's pretty cool. Hopefully Steam will be used. Not much difference for me tho since I'm getting this on PS3.
I would like to see a comeback of sonic adventure 2 for 3ds as i believe its one of the best sonic games ever
Just in case you haven't seen this gameplay video of this game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wuj-6T_ymqg Modern Sonic still has the Colors Voice actor (it took a while for me to get used to, but I don't mind it now). If it continues like this, this will be a superb Sonic game. :)
I rather have shadow.. Its like playing Super mario 64 BUT WAIT U CAN PLAY WITH CLASSIC OR MODERN MARIO!
johnjarvela. According to my sources, SEGA has skipped 3rd party support for CAFE. Though they may support DLC for it.
I don't like playing Sonic on a PC. I'd rather have it on a console. So when I get the 3DS I'll try it on that.
anyone know what the hell wintersmidnight is on about? all I saw was point, contradiction, contradiction...
They're taking the classic 2D gameplay of the original and combining it with what looks like the gameplay in the hedgehog levels of unleashed. (The only good part of that game) I don't see how this can turn out bad. I've been waiting for a good sonic game on the consoles, and this may very well be it.
