Land-0-Funk, from what I hear, only the Japanese soundtrack is in the game. Yeah, we lose out on stuff like Sonic Boom, and it probably won't hit as many nostalgia triggers, but both versions of the soundtrack are really good... It's just licensing issues that prevent the American version being used (ironically, the same reason there are two versions in the first place.)
Microsoft's Larry Hryb confirms an XBLA release for Sega's iconic hedgehog; PAX Prime 2011 appearance confirmed.
This week's Penny Arcade Expo won't go by without a handful of announcements and reveals. In addition to the debut of Portal lead Kim Swift's new title at Airtight Games, the show will serve as a coming-out event for Sonic CD.
The news comes by way of Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb's company blog. According to the Xbox Live director of programming, Microsoft will be showing Sonic CD at its PAX Prime 2011 booth alongside other Xbox Live Arcade titles, such as Trials Evolution, Skulls of the Shogun, Crimson Alliance, Splatters, Orcs Must Die, and others.
Major Nelson offered no other explanation on the heretofore unannounced title. Sonic CD debuted in 1993 but has been rarely rereleased since then. The game's only other console appearance came as part of the Sonic Gems Collection for the GameCube and PlayStation 2 in 2005. The game saw the titular hedgehog attempting to rescue his companion, Amy, from the clutches of Dr. Robotnik and his latest nefarious machination, Metal Sonic.
GameSpot will be on hand at PAX Prime 2011 to provide more information on Sonic CD as it becomes available.
That's nice. I hope there is an option where we can select the Japanese or American soundtrack...but probably won't be.
Funny story. Took out my Model 1 Sega CD last weekend to play a few games, one being Sonic CD. A couple of days later, I see this. Cosmic weirdness. Will be getting this for sure.
The original Sonic the Hedgehog and Sega Genesis were my introduction to video games back when I was a wee lad of 3. Since then, I have always been a sucker for 2D Sonic re-releases. The rarity of this one makes it a no brainer.
Sonic CD is a classic. Sonic the hedgehogs last great game outing. Which was one of the few great games for the Sega CD add on.
One of the few 2D Sonic games that has always escaped me, even though I did end up getting it in a Sonic PC compilation and the Sonic Gems Collection for Gamecube. I will gladly buy this one again.
YES i was waiting for this to happen for a while now. if only SEGA can also release The Revenge of Shinobi on XBLA, that would be sweet!
Suhweeettt!!!!!!! Now if they would just release the Game Gear Sonic games, I would be the happiest ever!
Wow, I haven't played Sonic CD since it originally came out. This will be a fun trip down memory lane.
Sonic CD is actually pretty good, it may not be the best in series but sure is worth for people like me that love Sonic games in general, if you do not like it however, chances are your opinion won't change by playing this one.
flint247 stole the words out of my mouth. Great music, but level design wasn't on par with other sonic titles. Anything to get more people to understand the past of sonic though, is a good thing.
I have Sonic CD on PC. Not really into the level design but the music is amazing. I still think Sonic 3 and Knuckles is the best.
I hear this was the best of the old school Sonic games. I wasn't too impressed with Sonic Adventure, so hopefully CD will be better.
@Ryusui & @MetalMajorWolf: I agree with you. If Sega doesn't give us the option to even let us choose between the Japanese & the English soundtrack, or if they just give us the English soundtrack, I'll be changing the music through the 360's custom soundtrack feature. @EasyComeEasyGo: You should look at this here.
Sonic CD. In my opinion, one of the most underappreciated games, and one of the best. Oh yeah, not forgetting Sonic Boom! One hitch: I have a PS3, not an XBOX. Bring it to PS3 as well!
Sonic CD was one of the few Sonic games that I miss in my childhood to play and know I get the chance to play this game at last. Edit: what is this Soundtrack version everyone is talking about? Is it some kind of Sonic Rock music or what?
these games were fun when i was a kid, but now i'd say either make an epic groundbreaking sonic or just let him RIP
I still have the Sega CD copy, this really was one of the best of the series, but that music, dear gawd! I always thought it sounded like a techno version of those girls from Little Shop of Horrors.
Ehhh... Classic Sonic games are amazing in theory, and then you pick them back up and you realize that, once again, nostalgia has played a dirty ****in' trick.

More than just a classic action game, Sonic CD is an exemplary port of a retro game to a modern platform.
