Radio DJ Eric V. takes home the title in the inaugural Hip-Hop Gaming League finals, beating B. Real, Method Man, Paul Wall, and Twista.
In a field chock-full of ballers and shot-callers, Eric V. had the most game.
The Miami-based radio DJ, one half of the Baka Boys, won the inaugural title this week in the first-ever World Championships for the Hip-Hop Gaming League, the all-star video game league created by Snoop Dogg.
In the final game, Eric V. beat Wu-Tang rapper Method Man, with Eric V. playing as the Miami Heat and Method Man going with the Dallas Mavericks. The Radio DJ took home the grand prize, which included a customized HHGL chain and medallion (supplied by Paul Wall's partner, TV Johnny) worth an estimated $15,000.
"He whupped everybody's ass," Snoop Dogg said in a statement after the game. "He was a [good player] all season!"
Snoop said that he intended to expand the field of the league for next season.
"The future HHGL, I see more people getting involved," said Snoop during the finals. "We need to open it up and let more people become a part of it because you got a lot of people that's good that ain't a part of it right now, [and] looking like, 'How can I get in? Where do I sign up?' So, we're just gonna open it up and make more opportunity for more people to get involved."
Obviosly u Skitzo, thats why you took time out of your "life" to post that comment. LOL, Owned. By the way ROCK AND RAP ARE GARBAGE. However this is gaming news.
What I see is that Snoop and other high profile people are down with the 360 and they are doing a great job to promote the 360. It's free advertisement and that's all good with me! Go Snoop! Go Xbox 360!
Truth will always be in the eyes of the beholder, I always say. Pro: Gaming being more accepted on the mainstream level and increasing the growth of ALL other professional leagues. Con: Gaming being associated with the negative sides to hiphop more specifically the negative rap stereotypes - booty shak'n video sluts, hate/anger/racism/violence, and greed. The second point I would like to make is I hope they introduce MORE players in the OTHER elements of hiphop like hiphop DANCERS (POPPERS, LOCKERS, BBOYS/BGIRLS), GRAFITTI artists, and more DJ'S/TURNTABLISTS. And my last comment is wat the heck are professional athletes doing in a HIPHOP league!? I'm sorrrry but last time i checked, hip hop has nothing to do with sports and vice versa. Thank you for your time.
In answer, I believe the issue of commericialization/targeting a more mainstream/less hardcore audience was last brought up on the Sin Episodes board but I may be mistaken on where I last saw that argument.
Then, in the next breath, they bemoan how games are becoming more commercialized and more targeted to a wider mainstream audience. Whoever said that? Is that soemthing only some nerds who game 24/7 know? Games becoming commercialized? LOL. Your a funny dude. Games have been commercialized forever. Do you know how much the gaming industry is worth.
*Shrug* Totally forgot about this celebrities-only league. It kinda fell under the same level of importance that I assign to Paris Hilton....doing anything.
Allegations of racism and musical taste aside, the thing that I find most amusing is how, in one breath, people say that it's great for games to be getting more mainstream exposure. Then, in the next breath, they bemoan how games are becoming more commercialized and more targeted to a wider mainstream audience.
Funny how one follows the other.
Wow, smart comments by BOBLaw and Evil Klow. Look soem of you close minded fools should just accept the fact that gaming is somthing alot of people do. Its just something for fun, alot of people think gaming leagues, etc are for geeks and nerds who are going to be a virgin till they like 40. Is that what soem of u guys are? Having rappers/or rockers etc just shows that gaming is becoming mainstream and is something people from every continent love to do. Whether America, Africa(Yes, alot of people there have PS2, Xbox, and even 360's in the more advanced countries) Europe, etc. I know people game in all of these countries. There are no boundries to gaming , and it should be seen as something that is open to everyone. Whether a rock start, rapper, computer tech guy, etc. Just appreciate something and stop being ignorant. If you dont like the news then dont post.
stars playing in video game tournaments? i never eard of that.... maybe snoop was high, but then again he always is
Everyone should open their mind and close their mouth. Live, learn, and be happy. Hopefully people will see gaming as mainstream, and not something that young kids and old virgins do. So lets kill the stereotypical banter about blacks, latinos, rap, and rock culture. Snoop is a gamer, lets leave it at that.
This was about a game tournament. A tournament held by a famous person will always generate news on a gaming web site; fact. It just so happened that it was Snoop Dogg, and he raps. Appreciate that this will make gaming tournaments more socially acceptable (not just seen as a something kids and uber geeks take part in) . This makes a difference. Believe me. There are weak minded people out there that were probably in a school somehwere takin' the piss out of the computer club and it's CS or other game tournaments that will probably ask if they can take part in the next one because of the sub-conscious effect of this.
If it doesnt hurt you, wouldnt it be simpler to just acknowledge that we are all diffrent, but that each and every individial whether its a migrant worker or a harvard eduacated blue blood is worthy of at least a hello and a smile. Thats a simple fix to a complicated problem. People waste more energy being nasty and ignorant to each other, when a nice gesture can change the way a person feels about you. We are stuck here together and americas borders are opening up to more imigrants and alien beliefs, it time for a new way of thinking.
hip hop is a huge market and just with the artists getting involed will make it even MORE cool to some of the posers who didn't play games.
omg agentsanderson please go somwhere else with your holy crusade against music...for the love of god nobody cares what you think
Holy **** there's alot of wankers on GameSpot. I say fair play to the fella for doin' it. And if you can't understand why this is news for a gaming site then I pitty you.
WTF IS THIS? ZZZZZZzzzz.. Jst got unbanned and this is the news I have to put up with! Oh well, GS can't be to blame for slow news days. Lets talk about the real world then shall we? In other news..Israel decides to kill more Palestinians......
He beat a buch of rapper to win a medalion and some cash that the losers either have on one of their teeth or use to wipe their bums. The next contest should be elimination with ACTUAL PEOPLE.
HAHAHAHA, I love country music. Its simply the best. Unlike that ROCK or should i say RUCKUS. I hate RAP TOO, both rappers and rockers are crazed lunatics sniffing crack and on rocks side worshipping all types of *****. Painting their faces, and bobbling their heads like a bobble head, getting tattoos across wvery inc of their body and piercing anything they can get a needle through, these rock lunatics got to go. As well as the rappers. Country music is whats really going on! ........ Oh yeah, and gamedestroyer, I thought E3 was great! Lots of innovations from Nintendo. 360 is looking strong with the GTA4 announcement and the Gears of War gameplay, as well as all the other great games they announced. PC had Crysis which had an amazing gameplay video. And Sony basically ******** on themselves. But I loved it, it was great.
....One more thing....how did this turn into an topic about peoples race.....and apparently music. agentsanderson, you really need to calm down....this is a gaming site. No one really cares about your opinion here, especially when it's about music. go listen to your country music or whatever and come back when you'd like to talk like a civilized human about the gaming industry....you're entitled to your opinion, and I am entitled to mine......on a lighter note, how'd everyone like this years E3?
_sean_05 lol, racist nerds whining about an article. If you had $ to blo you could have your own 'gaming league' or whatever. And if you were a celebrity the media would cover it. If articles like this didn't attract traffic, it wouldn't be posted. These kind of articles bring people from other sites to gamespot, its not so much intended for us as most articles are. If I had that kind of money to blow, I would invest in MAKING BETTER GAMES, not sitting in some celeb-exclusive (that's a big "**** you" to all of us less-than-rich people who MIGHT have found this interesting otherwise), media-radar, gamer-wannabe league. I don't give a damn about what Snoop Dogg does in his spare time, but he would sure as HELL have a lot more credibility if he would stop trying to wedge himself into every single up-and-coming craze. Everytime time i see a reference to something hip hop gaming related, whether it be a game or event i see the comments like the ones here. It has nothing to do with hip-hop or rap or black people. It has everything to do with an attention-crazed celebrity showing off those velvet ropes that seperate us from them. They don't embody the spirit of a true gamer. They do this for more reputation in hopes of converting people into their album-sales statistics. It would be no different if this were a famous wrestler or a NASCAR driver. Those of you throwing around 'racist,' WAKE UP and see this for what it is: Pure media exploitation by a celebrity with a TV airtime complex
dude i am sick of these rappers who cant sing, act, are pot head losers, and get into gaming after movies. 50cent sucks ungodly ass, same with snoop and all other rappers. you cant spelll crap with rap. call me a racist what ever you want, rap hater, but how many of these rappers arent losers and morons? i used to live by dmx, not kidding, he live 2 miles from me, and so did jenna jameson, but i moved sadly, but dmx is a crack head who cant get out of trouble. i hate rap and everything that revolves around i.
SNOOP DOGG IS GARBAGE, AND SO IS ROCK MUSIC. BUNCH OF MARLYN MANSONS SHOUTING WITH GROWLING VOICES AT THE TOP OF THEIR LUNGS. BOUNCING THEIR BIG HEADS LIKE BOBBLE HEADS AND WORSHIPPING THE DEVIL AND SAYING WORDS NO ONE CAN PUT TOGETHER AFTER THEY SNIFF A LINE OF COKE. THERES NO RACISM HERE. RAP IS BLACK AND WHITE. THERE ARE GOOD WHITE RAPPERS, AND GOOD BLACK RAPPERS. SAME WITH ROCK, ALOT OF BLACK FOLKS VENTURE INTO ROCK WITH LIGHT RAP. SO DONT SAY ITS RACIST. BOTTOM LINE SNOOP IS GARBAGE, AND SO IS 80% OF ROCK MUSIC. .......AND 70% OF RAP. DEAL WITH IT, WHETHER UR BLACK/WHITE/YELLOW/ORANGE.
Anyone who thinks hip-hop is just about killing cops, selling drugs and pimping should check out a Mr. Lif CD. There IS socially aware relevant music out there, but just like any other genre of music, you dont get exposed to any of the decent material via TV or the Radio, since basically they are owned by big corporations which use them to market you CDs from artists signed to labels owned by the same parent company that owns the channel/station. Think for yourselves instead of labeling things which you do not know about as 'crap'.
There are people who use racism as a crutch, ther e are also people who use ignorance and sterotypes to justify their racism. Peolple laugh and mimic rappers dress and talk, however did everyone conviently forget the eighties DUDE!?, big hair , drinking, unprotected sex. Today you have the goths, and skateboard kids, no one is insulting their lifestyle, or mimicing their talk. Call it what it is, America is full of small minded people. I work around all caucasion people, who fill it is a god given right to insult every non-white person in the world, I smile because if these peple are examples of white superiority, then, the brown, black, yellow, and red man shouldnt worry. Im not perfect, i generally dont graavitate towards people outside my race, but a hello and a handshake is usually all it takes for me to befriend someone. Do I have friends outside my race?, cant answer that because we are past labels, they are just friends
i like all kind of music and im not racist. so... i win... and i know spanish so i get even more out of music ha!. i win again... and i like rock...
Oh Fo sho! Snoop D-O double Gizzle threw a hip hop gizzaming tizzournament fo other celebrites. Whoop dee frizzeakin dizzoo.
Yawn... There are far more things that concern me than what video games a bunch of celebrities are playing...
It's video game news, particularly relating to gaming in mainstream America. It's completely relevant.
I think this is pretty sweet, glad Gamespot covered it. Any news on gaming scene, whether it be legit gamers or rappers or whatever is cool with me, and always interested in reading about
