lol .. people calling me an idiot for not being able to play the game with 300 inventory capacity ... have fun selling, dropping your stuff every 2 minutes - store it you say? **** no, why would i want my stuff to be stored in some house on the other end of the map .. no thanks ill just edit it in console again, just like fallout
Bethesda's latest Elder Scrolls RPG has now earned some $650 million in retail sales alone; fastest-selling title on Steam to date.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim continues to post soaring numbers for Bethesda Softworks. Today, Bethesda parent company ZeniMax Media announced that its fantasy role-playing game has shipped 10 million units across the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC platforms. That tally amounts to approximately $650 million in retail sales, the publisher noted.
With the publisher calling out "large retail reorders," Skyrim is apparently doing quite well on the PC platform as well. Bethesda said today that the PC version of Skyrim in North America outsold all other PC games by a magnitude of three to one during November. According to Valve, Skyrim is the fastest-selling title on Steam in the digital distribution platform's history. Previously, Valve had announced that the game had set a new Steam record with more than 280,000 concurrent players on Skyrim's launch day.
Bethesda intends to support Skyrim into 2012. PC players will get access to a Creation Kit utility in January that will give users access to Bethesda's own development tools to make new Skyrim content. The studio is also prepping downloadable content for the title, the first two of which will be exclusive to the Xbox 360 platform for 30 days.

u2i_l0ver Posted Dec 17, 2011 1:15 am PT @blackace " If Sony and Microsoft are smart they will allow these consoles to be hooked up to PC monitors" You can hook the current consoles up to monitors too. ******************************************************************** You can? I don't know of any monitor that has a cable that hooks up with the PS3, XBox 360 or Wii. What monitor is this that you're talking about. There are monitors that now accept HDMI and A/V cables? provide a link please. Also, both the PS3 and XBox 360 don't support a higher definition then 1080p. With the new systems they should support 2560 x 1600 resolution and allow you to change the resolution in the settings.
I played half of it and I'm begining to think it's not balanced enough. Too much money, too much important perks at max in 45 level experience. I lost interes.
@Kentelyoo Skyrim is alot safer than Morrowind. Fatigue wise, your stamina doesn't go down when you run, jump or do basic swings. It only goes down when you sprint or do a power attack. When adventuring for me it's more like: Hmm weather's fun (there's no dangerous weather at all) there's a dwarven ruin here but I'm not scared because I have a dog, a follower and a conjured minion; maybe I'll clear it, do anything quest related there and fast travel back to town and sell and loot I got there. Don't get the impression that Skyrim is a bad game because of that, the quests (even miscellaneous ones) can have some pretty epic moments, especially since everybody in that game actually has a voice and tone to go with it. It's just that Skyrim is much more tame than Morrowind. So much that even an average gamer that's new to Elder Scrolls will have the need to turn up the difficulty to something harder.
I do not see why people are insulting each other over...well im not sure what over. @TheTrueMagusX1 I agree that some people are exaggerating the problem but you cannot claim that others have not come across annoying bugs within the game. I dont find the bugs a huge problem, as i save regularly...but earlier in the game i have gotten stuck in glitches and forced to replay whole dungeons and quests (X360 version) so i can see why some people are getting frustrated. But even with the bugs Skyrim is quickly becoming one of my favorite games and would have been worth paying double for IMO, im actually planning on purchasing the PC version soon for the mods because i like it so much. @cstv Its unfortunate that the bugs have ruined the experience for you, though its not to be completely unexpected on such a large game...hopefully patches will fix the problems for you so you can enjoy it as much as i have.
I am in it 80 hours and some three major quest lines done, so far no problems. Playing on PS3. The game is marvelous.
I am SO confused by all this hatred :? I've had two people personally message me to tell me the PS3 version of this game is broken and basically I'm talking out of my arse. What the hell? I've been playing it since its release without a single hiccup, but apparently I'm lying? If some of you guys are genuinely experience 'unplayable' issues with the game then I feel extremely sorry for you, but it's funny that for some of us the game appears to work just fine. I have an old fat PS3 which I bought on the weekend of launch in the UK and Skyrim hasn't crashed once on me. It had the odd jutter of frame-rates but since I downloaded the most recent patch for the game it all seems to run fine? I'm not denying some folks are seemingly having issues, but that doesn't mean we all are. @cstv I think you need to admit that some are having issues and others aren't. I have at least four friends with Skyrim for their PS3 and neither of them have yet encountered a problem. I appreciate your thoughts on here but you're being a hypocrite. '...your beloved game is BROKEN so get that real fact inside your unreal head..' It's broken for you, not everyone.
@lewishim666 No but this is what happens when a game is rushed out to meet the holiday season, I'm sure it will be completely patched soon enough, Bethesda is usually good about that. I do feel like its happens a lot do you remember Fallout New Vegas, its actually playable now.
@Kentelyoo I felt the same thing between Morrowind and Oblivion. So when I got Skyrim for PC, I (manually) turned off quest markers, the on-screen compass, and I avoided fast-travel. The result was a much more frightening and challenging world that eliminated the dull, A-to-B travel system. If you like the game world, wouldn't you want to spend time in it?
@cstv He gets a lot of thumbs down for someone held in such high regard. The guys got no credability whatsoever. Ignore him completely from now on.
Hey, since many players are here. I have not played the game yet (too much good games, not enough time). I would like to know something. I remember in Morrowind, I could get very scared when adventuring: "I'm very far from civilization, I'm in a sandstorm, I just entered a dwarven ruin, I don't know what's down there but I can hear metallic noises, I'm alone and I'm in danger." But in Oblivion, you could always see the citadel in the distance and I never felt isolated or in danger. What's it like in Skyrim ?
I got the game as a early christmas present. The game is freaking awesome! No doubt about that. It does lag here and there but nothing so bad that it's a game breaking ordeal. I've been gaming for a long time, so i'm used to seeing imperfections even in the most highly rated games out there. My only problem is I dont have enough time to play it! It consumes so much time it's crazy!
@Shoinko you are right, this guy is just here to bug .....cannot have a genuine conversation with such trolls
@TheTrueMagusX1 lol the way you started accusing us of foul mouthing the game just shows how much you are emotionally attached to it,so only afew ppl are facing the lag eh thats why sites like ign & kotaku have published articles demanding an explanation from bethesda do you think i enjoy foul mouthing a game that is on my fav console? your life too revolves around gs responding to my comments and please your real game comment is way too lame for a 5 year old cannot digest the truth eh? your beloved game is BROKEN so get that real fact inside your unreal head LOL
@TheTrueMagusX1a person who has the respect of others never boasts it, try to act decent and respect other's opinion
@cstv Funny, I donot see how you get I only play Marvel and Mario games, considering I hardly play any Marvel based games, whcih makes your statements quite hilarious. What is hilarious, is you are so emotionally devastated over this, that you write long novel like responses to me, that are just full of anger and insecurity.....that your only place in life is here in gamespot. That this is the only place important to you in life. That there is nothing else outside of the world that is more important to you than Gamespot. By the way, I have looked, not that many people are having that much trouble. It's your PS3 not your game.....hmm. Glad your having trouble with the game. Go play Viva Pinata....not real games like Skyrim.
@Shoinko Funny, considering I am quite respected by most people around here. What I do have, that you and your pal CSTV have is logic. I see things for how they really are. Your just naive...I pity people like you.
@cstv Its a waste of time responding to that guy, his comments are idiotic and dont merit consideration anymore.
@TheTrueMagusX1 you know you are just making a fool of yourself with statements like 'skyrim is too difficult for you'...again as i said, just because you dont have a problem (i am not sure you are saying the truth though) does not mean that the game is perfect or is not broken, it is broken for the majority of us who have file size more than 8mb, as for research i meant go to the forums and check out how serious the lag issue is...according to you there is nothing game breaking in the game, well, go and post the same argument on those forums and you will see how many people are saying the complete opposite, it is of course good for many people too but its also broken for us, and as consumers that cannot be accepted, i have no desire to come here and foul mouth a game, i am merely stating what so many of us are facing, stop being so defensive and learn to respect others' opinion...even bethesda have addressed this issue and you are the one to deny it, this is height of fanboyism... PS: you want proof then go to you tube and search for the crippling lag videos. I cannot do anything further to prove my point, hope you will understand
@TheTrueMagusX1 i can see what brand of games you play, ya go, stick to your mario and marvel series kiddo, gaming is way too beyond ignorant people like you, skyrim to difficult?? hahahahhaha...jeez some really stupid statement made by you here, have some shame and for once in your miserable life try to think about the thousands who have bought this game and are unable to play it, the moment you said that your ps3 is trash i understood you are just another troll trying to irritate people, at least go to the bethesda forums for once and try to understand what type of problems people are facing with this game, but alas with someone with IQ as low as yours will never even make an effort...ya your statement 'skyrim is too difficult for you' just shows how utterly lost for ideas you actually are, try to be creative and learn to respect other's opinion....guess you haven't received enough education for that too....feel sad for people like you...go back to your marve vs capcom fantasy, suits you best...LOL.
@cstv Thats how long they been a member of Gamespot, not how long you have been gaming. That really has no bearing on gaming experience. Wow, child, you are really throwing a temper tantrum over this. All I heard was ignorant fool over and over. Actually I knwo plenty of people who are not having this problem. It is just you, and your broken PS3. By the way, I think games like Skyrim are too difficult for you, heck even Metal Gear Solid is to difficult for you. Play that new Sesame Street game, thats a good introduction to gaming child. Ahh are you mad? LMAO, your comments are hillarious...What research? LMAO. Your the one angry over internet comments, I am amused by your reactions! :D
@TheTrueMagusX1 LOL stop embarrassing yourself, Shoinko is a member since 2005 and you are a member since 2009, so look properly before insulting anyone, so you are a 'real' gamer and everyone who is having a problem playing skyrim is apparently a fake gamer, eh??...how old are you kid?? 5 i am assuming...go to my profile and check what category i lie with...stop being over smart, if you are not having problems with the game then fine, but don't get into getting on other's nerves who have spent a handful on a broken game.
@TheTrueMagusX1 you so ignorant, how come every other game runs fine on my ps3?? go and enjoy your fanboyism....hahahhaa calling me an mw3 fan now eh....get a grip of reality, go to bethesda forums and check out how many of us are facing problems, cannot believe ignorant people like you exist who would defend a careless studio and blabber nonsense here, THIS GAME IS BROKEN ON THE PS3, maybe you are lucky enough not to have problems but that doesnt mean others dont...typical ignorant fan who would continue to support a beoken game, ok mr wise guy can you answer one thing? why did they not send out retail copies of the ps3 the way they did for the 360?? go and do some research before insulting others here
I have the PS3 version and love every hour I play, yes bugs and frame rate still pop up. But who really cares? If you do, take your thoughts elsewhere I say. Noone likes a milk drinker :P
@cstv Nope your PS3 is trash. Many others on here have validated that they donot have the problems you do. Oh no, I got thumbed down, my life is going to end....oh no....actually thats hillarious, I really donot care. So you enjoy your broken PS3, while i enjoy my working version of Skyrim, which has bugs, but runs quite smooth. I will also enjoy other games like Yakuza 4, No More Heroes Paradise, and Rune Factory, games for real gamers as well. I think you might want to stick your MW3, because those are for average gamers. Not real gamers.
@Shoinko Wow thats a really touching story. Funny that you cannot even do the @ to some one correctly. Actually, you are not from that time. I can tell. Because why? The forums on the internet were not what they were back than, and people hardly ever go into fights back than. I think your making up things. Also judging from your profile, I think your a new gamer, you just did a little research child. They are being insecure fanboys, saying that their version is better than theirs. Your not the voice of reason, your some one who cannot read, whose abilities are that of a 2nd grader when it comes to that.So donot lecture me my child, when you are full of half truths. A joke of a gamer.
Sony gets 1 week earlier Microsoft gets a month... why is that? pretty sad how publishers choose a company over another making one side of gamers feel left out.
@TheTrueMagusX1 you ignorant person, i play loads of other games on the ps3, none have a single problem...i think you are the one lying about the game running smoothly....calling yourself a gamer is a big disgrace if you cannot stand up against the studio looting you by giving you a broken game, see all the thumbs down on your comment, just shows you how many people are having the lag problem on the ps3, get a life...
YES YES YES~ I'M WAITING FOR IT TO BE SUPER CHEAP NEXT YEAR... OR XMAS! THEN BANG! BOUGHT! TILL THEN BF3 & Mw3 For me :)
well i hope every last person who worked on the game gets a good slice of that 650 million and not just todd howard and the CEOS.
@ thetruemagusx1 everyone has the right to voice what they feel to be a legitimate concern over the quality of a product that they have paid for. You may not think it's such a big deal and thats fine, you are as entitled to your opinion as everyone else but to call people childish for voicing their opinion is silly. Most of the comments were analysing the difference between the ps3 version and the others, it wasnt fanboyism where they were trying to put down a rival format. They weren't being insecure fanboys, it was you who demonstrated a lack of understanding. Ive been gaming since the 80's and your comments about people not complaining in the early 90's is wrong. Fanboyism between SNES and Genesis/Megadrive owners was rampant back then as well. And by the way I have a ps3 as well and I have absolutely no preference as to what faceless multinational company has their name on a console. I like a good game regardless of what format it's on.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7s0xOdhNPng I used to play this game like you, then I took an arrow to the knee
You know, I am surprised by this. Originally, I thought that Skyrim would do very well, but not as well as this. I thought that Modern Warfare 3 would cover Skyrim, but I'm happy to know that there are still plenty of games that can do as well as Call of Duty can.
Still havent played it, I was a huge Morrowind fan back in the day (its still one of my top 5 favourite games of all time). But real life issues are keeping me from playing many computer games these days. Ill get to it eventually but real life comes first for me.
theres a trick to elder scrolls.. do NOT do teh main quests if theres othe rthigns you want to do first. Always do the otehr things you want to do . Then when youve had enough of the elder scrolls completely THEN do the main quest and finish it.
it was actually suppose to ship 12 million but the guy in charge of the rest of the 2 million took an arrow to the knee
i still have all elder scrolls installed on my PC. Including Daggerfall and Arena and Morrowind. You cant not give it to SKYRIM. Its a book, its a game, its a fictional masterpiece. No other game has a history over 4 eras between All its 5 games and actually makes a sandbox environment make me want to finish the game and fun to play in. Most sandbox games i get bored. BF3, bored me to tears, Farcry 2, i tried to enjoy it but didnt finish it, mainly because there just wasnt much interesting stuff to do. STALKER, still an awesome game, but the quest backtracking is a real chore. RAGE..god that really should of been a story driven fun linear game for 12 hours. But SKYRIM, it just does sandbox right and makes me want to see whats over there and enjoy its entire world. For those that think SKYRIMS story is bla. You havent read any of its books. because its not just 1 story, theres 100's of stories in the elder scrolls series. Theres so much story in Elder scrolls its insane.
10 million shipped, 12 million returned... Thats how bad it was. (Obvious joke :P ) Yeah it's a great game just wish it wasn't so badly optimized and buggy but i was anticipating it anyway so i'll wait for the community patches to arrive in a few months time.
@Chaos_Dante_456 : with all the references that being made to skyrim on Facebook and other website i grew curious about what the hell is an arrow to the knee?!? then my friend(the one playing skyrim) told me all about the arrow to the knee thing and i started using it...like the rest of the world (kel zag :) )
Oblivion 2...urrr i mean Skyrim was a good game. But it definitly didn't live up to the hype. All the promo videos shown on tv and online were rendered on high end PC's. The console versions looked muddy and bland. (plants obviously look 2D and dull) Even gamer PC rigs can't run this the way it was by Bethesda. Even though there arent as many glitches, they're still there. And whats with the static quest log? Why can't we manage them like files? I had to sort thru dozens of quests to find one I actually wanted to do. I had my hopes up for over a year and was let down.
