Electronic Arts announces new animal-based expansion for PC; stand-alone game coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and 3DS.
The Sims franchise is known for its quick-hitting and numerous expansions. Keeping with tradition, just a week after the Generations pack was released for the Sims 3, publisher Electronic Arts has announced the next add-on for the series.
Due out at a to-be-determined date as an expansion to the PC and Mac versions of The Sims 3 will be The Sims 3: Pets (debut trailer below). The animal-themed expansion lets gamers "create, customize, and control" over one hundred types of dogs and cats. What's more, the expansion is, according to EA, the "biggest undertaking in our franchise's history."
In addition to the PC expansion, The Sims 3: Pets will arrive at retail for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and 3DS. The Xbox 360 iteration will connect with Microsoft's Kinect technology, allowing gamers the ability to control their pets and sims via voice commands.
The 3DS version of The Sims 3: Pets also boasts unique features. Gamers playing on Nintendo's new portable can use the system's pedometer to earn karma points in the game. Additionally, the 3DS version of the game lets players gift animals to other Sims players using the StreetPass functionality.
The Sims 3: Pets is currently in development at The Sims Studio. For more on the core title it is based on, check out GameSpot's review of The Sims 3.
I can't think of a more annoying marketing tactic than releasing 30 billion expansions for a game that should've had the content included in the original game. Don't encourage them by buying this stuff.
I've been playing the Sims since the first game with all its expansion packs... but I haven't bought a single expansion pack for Sims 3 yet.. Mainly being that I've thrown so much money in Maxis' way that I feel paying the full price for these expansion packs are getting ridiculous. I'm going to buy this when it comes out, anyway, but I'm really annoyed with having to pay so much money for the game! Give us Sims fans a break, damn it >:(
Too late! They should have gotten this and Seasons out before any of the other expansions. This is way too late, as only the die-hards are still playing Sims 3. I mean seriously, adding vampires to the game before pets, and still no word on seasons?
OK,this sucks, they should have released Pets in Sims 3,not make it an expansion. I dont play Sims, but this is still a rip-off.
And thus the cycle of Maxis re-releasing and re-charging us for stuff we bought years ago begins anew.
sweet, now if they can just add back in pool tables and maybe seasons then all will be right with the sim world
should have been included in the original game...... i think i speak for every sims fan when i say WE WANT SEASONS.....even though that should have been in the game to begin with as well......
I see EA has gotten to the stage where they are digging trough the recycling bin. I suspect The Sims 4 is right around the corner now.
I hate pets! As far as I'm concerned there aren't enough gloves, hats and glue factories in the world. But I like that last frame: "Death came riding". :)))))
Too little, too late. Everyone was clamoring for this back when the less-than-spectacular expansions were being released. Now it seems more like an afterthought.
This is what I've always hated about The Sims games. The basic game is entertaining, but lacking obvious features. So they release an expansion pack to make the game a bit deeper (I use the term "deep" loosely here). 20 expansions later you have a decent game. Then they release the next Sims game and instead of including all those features from the last game, the give you the barebones again. So now we have The Sims 3 which is 2 years old (about a million years in the tech world) and they're just now adding pets. A rather obvious feature for a life simulator when just about everyone has owned a pet at some point in their life. Are we going to have a Sims 4 in 2014 that launches with no pets as well? EA is shameless, so probably.
This was an expansion pack for the original Sims, so shouldn't it have been in the original release package for Sims 3?
about time..this stuff should have been included with the base Sims 3 game along with the club/downtown stuff. and like others have said big money drain they should include a lot of the stuff with the first launch then keep adding NEW ideas and NEW clothes and NEW stuff later on!
Could never get into this Sims stuff... So why am I even here commenting? heck I don't know... I checked out all the good stuff about e3 and I'm having a hard time leaving my desk. Thanks to all of you consumers who pay for these deliberately left-out features. Your contributions keep the industry going.
Finally! ... but really, it seems they're adding as little content as possible with each new expansion.
please release Open for Business, seasons and University next EA!!!!! my bandwidth could use a little exercise every few months
Am I the only person that seems to be interested in this!? Lol, if you've ever played Sims, you know that everything comes in the form of an expansion pack.
Noooo, I wanted an expansion where you have a lion as a pet, oh well, I guess I'll have to wait some more.
Whats next? Sims 3 University Glamour Pack Teen Stuff Oh wait, how about make some extra marketing money buy bringing back Ikea Stuff.
This is ridiculous now EA. Seriously: Sims Unleashed Sims Pets Now: The Sims 3 Pets Stop with the repetitive expansion packs and make anything you've already release in previous versions standard on new ones. I did not buy Sims 3 for this very reason. I got all these features in my Sims 2, not shelling out another $200 for crap.
Why weren't pets already a feature in the sims 3?? Why can't it AT LEAST be just Sims 3 and THE (not a) expantion pack (with the pack having all the sims 2 expantions but for 3)?!
Great, now my friend can believe she is being rejected by her SimPets like she believes she is being rejected by her Sims and by actual people.
