E3 2011: Konami pushes newest survival horror adventure to this winter and confirms new installment for Sony's portable; HD-updated Silent Hill Collection also en route.
As any meteorologist would say, predicting the weather is hard. Konami can relate, announcing today as part of its pre-Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference that it has pushed Silent Hill: Downpour to this winter, having initially planned the game for release in the fall. The first new installment in the series since 2008's Homecoming, Downpour will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Downpour's delay was far from the only Silent Hill-related update Konami provided during its press conference. The publisher also confirmed that it is at work on Silent Hill: Book of Memories, a new installment in the series exclusively for Sony's upcoming NGP.
Konami did not provide much information on Book of Memories. However, according to Silent Hill producer Tom Hulett, when the game arrives "later on down the road," it will be "taking the franchise places it's never been before." Konami also cautioned that Book of Memories has yet to be concept-approved by Sony.
Lastly, Konami revealed the Silent Hill Collection. The package includes an HD touch-up for Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3, which were originally released in 2001 and 2003, respectively. Konami did not indicate when the Silent Hill Collection would arrive, nor did it say which platforms it was in development for.
They can remake Silent hill 2 and 3 in Hd, with new voice overs. Why not go back to the begining and make Silent Hill in HD. I will be playing SH1 again from the PS store, but i would love for it to be a HD remake. Silent 3 was the best one for me. Glad they didn't waste resources into SH4 (the room), it was really bad, and i wouldn't go through that again. Shame i'm not considering getting a PS vita for a while (till the price drops, and more games to my taste comes out for it), so i wont be able to play the Silent Hill book of memories for a good while. :(
Origins was decent, I've pre-ordered my Vita so I'd be in on another decent SH game before Downpour.
Silent Hill 2 and 3!?...Why don't they do a new HD version of SH1? They could keep the cutscenes the same but the characters would look as good in-game as they would in the cutscenes.
I would've preferred the HD collection to have 1 and 2 instead but what can you do. I wasn't a big fan of 3 but I did like it a lot more than 4(The Room) and 5 (Homecoming)
Although it's slightly disappointing that we won't be enjoying the next installment as soon as we thought, in the end it's for the best if they use the extra time to fine tune and polish the game even more. As for the 'collection', it'll be great to replay two of the best in the series in HD; though I kind of wish they had included SH4 as well.
I had Silent hill 3 when I had ps2. Was incredible scary and good game. I didn´t played silent hill 2, I will like to try it in HD. Is good that Konami is bringing good classic games in HD. I hope that Konami will develop this HD remakes to Xbox 360 too.
Good news! I'm surprised about the exclusion of #1 though...probably it was mainly because the game wouldn't really look that HD even in HD without completely remaking it. Still surprised they aren't including Shattered Memories or something though...that would be an easy HD port. Still worth the price of admission for 2 & 3 though, definitely the best of the series so far.
I think Silent Hill 4 was different from the other games, maybe thats the reason for the exclusion? I really enjoyed SH4 though
silent hill 2 is one of my single most loved games of all time (soundtrack included!). It was far ahead of it's time in story and atmosphere. I was mortally let-down with "homecoming". but I can't shake the feeling that downpour may very well be a welcome return to form for the franchise. Another couple of months to wait to find that out first hand isn't too bad... The Best silent hill games are best played in the dark creepy, foggy winter months anyway
These HD remakes aren't a bad idea. Though I'd love to see Tecmo re-release the Fatal Frame series in HD (and localize FF4 in HD) and Bandai Namco to bring Xenosaga to our HD screens.
I personally dont mind these hd remakes of games that deserve it. If it wuz a good game y not play it again with better picture quality? I wont b buying it cuz im a stickler 4 the original copy but the idea is a welcome 1. They just might make a hd remake of a game i might wanna run thru again.
I'm not impressed. HD remakes to keep everyone occupied and cash in a little on the side. Running out of ideas are we?
Silent Hill 2 and 3 HD remakes HAVE to come out for PC or I'll die. Silent Hill 2 especially. Come on Konami, don't let me down like you're doing with Downpour. @jb9776 And yes, a Silent Hill 1 HD remake would be amazing as well.
Seems kind of useless without the original silent hill. That game is the most in need of an hd remake, played it recently and the game is butt ugly.
Silent Hill 3 barely needs an HD update, the game looks amazing on the PS2 (It even had real time lighting) and obviously on the PC but still... I'm quite interested on replaying those games. Too bad about Downpour though, I'm fairly hyped about it.
I have no played SH game since number 3, and I would like to see more recent video instead of something from a year ago, before drawing any conclusions. But I think SH has alway been good at doing what it does and that is scary scenarios
at last they made a real silent hill game again not like the last 2 i mean shattered memories and othe one forgot its name
Its great to see Silent Hill 2 & 3 get an HD update, still I can't help but be sad that the original is not being inlcuded in any form.
Silent Hill 2 has been one of the games in my must-play list for quite some time. I was gonna get the original Xbox version, but I'll just wait for this instead.
Will be picking up the collection for sure. and While Silent Hill 4 wasn't everyone's fave it should've been included in the package for value's sake.
Nice! Another HD Collection. I played Silent Hill 2 and thought it was a great game. I heard 3 was pretty good to.
