Shippin' Out Sept. 6-12: Beatles: Rock Band, Dirt 2
The Fab Four make their game debut alongside Codemasters' off-road racer, IL-2 Sturmovik, PS3 Trine, and Little Big Planet: GOTY edition.
After a dry summer, the game-release spigot is starting to open up. This week, arguably the most anticipated rhythm game ever hits store shelves in the form of The Beatles: Rock Band. Developed by Harmonix, published by MTV Games, and distributed by Electronic Arts, the title is the first to feature the likeness of the Fab Four and will sport 45 songs from the group's 10-year career. Rated T for Teen, it will be available for the Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 as a $60 stand-alone game, a $160 "special value edition" with standard Rock Band instruments, and a $250 limited edition with replicas of the Beatles' instruments.
If off-road racing is more appealing, then gear up for Dirt 2. Though no longer named after the late rally master Colin McRae, the racing game does feature a tasteful tribute to him in the form of a racing course he used in real life. It also features plenty of dirt-track action of the type that made the Scotsman famous and will be available for the PC, PS3, PSP, DS, and Wii.
Also new this week is Eidos Interactive Mini Ninjas, which features, as advertised, teeny shinobi. However, instead of the bloody combat popularized by Sho Kosugi in such 1980s cult films as Enter the Ninja, the E10+ for Everyone 10 and above rated game will feature nonlethal, kid-safe combat. Also in the mix will be stealth and magic, with defeated enemies turning into adorable animals instead of festering corpses.
Rounding out this week's releases is the World War II flight-combat sim IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey for the PS3 and Xbox 360, Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days for the PSP, and the Game of the Year edition of Little Big Planet, a PS3 exclusive.
For further details on the week's games, visit GameSpot's New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and the Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! NOT ANOTHER MUSIC GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, what the fudgebumps? How many music/rhythm games do they have to release before people realize that it's not new anymore? Adding the Beatles to a stale music game doesn't make it fresh again, it just gives it a new name. Who gives a blink?

I for one am bored of playing this type of game and am tired of shelling out cash for music that can only be heard on my console. Come out with a game that allows us to import our own tracks then I'll be interested again.
I don't really want these games right now, at least. I'm saving my only $40 for LittleBigPlanet for PSP!
Whooo hooo!!
Cant wait to get my hands on Heroes Over Europe. Hope its as good as the first game.
While I'd love to get the new Bealtes game, I don't like them that much to pay full price for the game. Definitely getting it eventually though.
Can Wait ^_^
How did the Beatles game get a T rating? Suggestive custom rocker outfits?
nothing i want this week DX
@ Sins-of-Mosin I hope that you are right. I love good games, and the more the better. However Borderlands is not out yet and while it is quite huge (sounding) it might not have enough polish to make it great. As of this day Batman is likely game of the year.
i will wait for DAO and ME2 thanks. Also waiting for SW:ToR, and GW2. I can't justify getting beatles RB due to the fact that I would spend way too much money buying DLC for it. Will have to settle for playing their music on a real instrument.
Finally the wait for Beatles is nearly over
Rock Band and Disgaea 2. Already have Disgaea 2 pre-ordered through Amazon. Just gotta wait for it to show up.
Raiden IV could be interesting, though I'd feel a lot more comfortable paying $5 for it than $10; if it's $15 or more I'm gonna be like "eff that!!"
All that matters is ME2 in Jan.
@jshaas...you bet me too it, but thats what i meant by that..cheers
Back on topic: that's a good number of games coming this week... should hold most of us over until MW2. Mini Ninjas shipped last week (friend of mine got it) though, so did IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey.
@R7 3... I don't think he's really comparing them. He's just complaining about the fact that this will be the 4 band-centric game to come out... well I guess GH: Van Halen isn't out yet is it. But they're basically about to run out of bands worthy enough for a RB or GH game. Of course, Prince can play the guitar a lot better than the bands we have today... so I guess it would be cool to have him in a RB or GH game but not one of his own.
@taylormadederek - I'm currently playing Batman and enjoying it but I don't see how it will compare to the sheer scope of Borderlands.
can't think of the must have game for this quater. i'm sure the beatles are gonna sell like crazy, people always go crazy for the beatles, but halo and super mario wii is about the only thing i'm looking forward to this season.
Dirt 2, The Beatles, Trine
@ fkb90210 Not even a question. BATMAN is a for sure contender for Game of the Year. I think that my vote is already in for it. It was absolutely amazing.
So I bought a PS3 on Sunday after my 360 took a crap for the second time in two months on Friday, and I have to ask if Little Big Planet is worth getting. I'm already happy with my purchase as MGS4 and Infamous are so great, plus the 1080p with my HDMI looks better than my picture with the 360 ever did, so I just want to catch up on games I missed out on all this time.
@ BigDawgSteve420 Yes, LBP is worth to get, or at least rent and try, seeing people have preferences, so not all people like the game even though others do. Seeing many people enjoyed it and I was one of those that did, I'd recommend to giving it a shot anyways. Also, try out if possible.
The hardest part of seeing another RB or GH get released are all the whiners complaining about it. I mean really, RB 14? GH 30? just drop it already. As a gaming site everyone already knows there are a LOT of these games. Those not interested should have learned to quit complaining by now because your whining isn't doing anything but annoying people...
Pretty crap list once again. And NO another Rock Band game is NOT good nor is it needed.
everyone should just get IL-2 for the PC. 600 planes and a huge online community of realistic dogfighting and missions. 2500 collision points per plane as well. after playing the console version where arcade was moronic and simulation made no sense and planes had the same 20 basic destruction points it kinda felt blah, even if it did look better.
Not even one single good title in that entire list, how lame. Have to wait until the 15th for NHL10 and NFS:Shift and then ODST on the 22nd.
none..or beatles
Dirt 2, Mini Ninjas, and IL-2 Sturmovik are my choices.
which one should i buy IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey beatles :rock band or batman arkham asylam plz replyy
Likely picking up RB Beatles, be nice to play a band-centric game that actually contains a good amount of the actual bands songs. Pity there is absolutely no hype for it out here in Australia, I don't see anybody advertising it. They advertise GH5 beyond anything though. Yeah Aussies lack taste.
@_Rye_ you're comparing The Beatles (one of the bands that made Rock n Roll popular), to Britney Spears and Prince!? what is your problem dude?
The PC version of Dirt 2 is not going to come out until December because of DirectX 11.
Beatles, yes!
Puzzle eh?
Getting Mini Ninjas & DiRT 2
Trine PS3 on a Tuesday? Thought it would come out on the usual Thursday PSN update. Still good though :D

Bah! I will never spend money on a Rock Band/Guitar Hero game again! Unless of course they make a Rock Band: Led Zeppelin...
Uh the beatles why couldn't there be a more hardcore rockband or something with a little more kick you can bet that the hardest song is not by them
saving for the last quarter for the year!!! hehe!!
Even though I am getting majorly burned out on the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games I gotta pick up the game, its one of those "Starting to hate the genre but love the Music" situations
IL-2 came out last week Gamespot.
ARE YOU READY FOR THE ORGASMIC EXPLOSION THAT IS THE BEATLES ROCK BAND? I know my pants will be :D
Sweet, didn't realize Trine was coming to PS3 this week. I might just have to snag it.
Rockband was good but its the same old crap now its boring you spend another 50 bucks just to play new songs, after you play it for 200 hours loses its touch all am saying
Lots of games out this week, but I'm not buying any of them.
the beattles im excited to get and darkest of days either than that idk
Rye, you're comment is just stupid. Can't wait for the Beatles: Rock Band, but I need to sell some stuff to get some more money.
