Labor Day week sees massive wave of releases, including Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, Otomedius Excellent, and the latest Dragon Age: Origins expansion.
Next Monday is Labor Day, a national holiday in the US and the traditional end of summer. And once the barbecues have cooled and the last cold beverage has been plucked from the cooler, the week will see the start of the end-of-the-year game flood.
Superhero fans will get a double dose of games on Tuesday, when Warner Bros. releases Batman: The Brave and the Bold (DS, Wii) and Activision ships Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions (Xbox 360, DS, PlayStation 3, Wii). Unlike the dark and violent Arkham Asylum, the former title is geared toward a younger audience, with a cel-shaded look and costarring the caped crusader's longtime companion, Robin. Meanwhile, the T for Teen-rated Shattered Dimensions will see four different versions of the famous webslinger trade blows and quips with villains as he tries to reassemble a broken artifact.
Ubisoft is releasing two titles this week in two different genres. After a slight delay, the feint-focused World War II strategy title R.U.S.E. will arrive on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Those same platforms and the Wii will also receive HAWX 2, the sequel to the decently reviewed Tom Clancy-branded air combat simulator.
Hockey fans will also have a pair of games to choose from this week, both from Electronic Arts. NHL 11, the latest annual iteration of EA Sports' rink-and-puck franchise, will ship for the PS3 and X360 on Tuesday. The company is also releasing NHL Slapshot, a more arcade-style hockey game for the Wii.
The PSP will see a major release in the form of Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, the newest installment in the Square Enix-Disney crossover franchise. The role-playing game lit up Japan's game software sales charts upon its debut in January, selling some 445,000 units within its first week on the market.
Fans of more bizarre Japanese games can sample the Xbox 360-exclusive Otomedius Excellent. Konami's hybrid game combines Gradius-style side-scrolling space warfare with visuals of exaggeratedly proportioned, attractive anime girls.
For further details on the week's games, visit GameSpot's New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.

@ SuprSaiyanRockr The chances of spiderman not being in MvC3 isn't even worth mentioning cause he will be in it I'd rather know if Jill valentine is returning I won't be happy if Chris redfield has replaced her.... Been watching R.U.S.E for awhile now so may have to get that but gotta lay my hands on KH:bbs
I knew Hawx 2 was coming out, but I am still trying to figure out who, if anyone, bought the first Hawx. And when did the late-80's come back? I wasn't aware we were putting X's in the place of "cks" letter groupings again. Because it doesn't rawx.
For a second I thought Batman Arkham City was already released, and had to check the article to be sure.
i dont tink these game will do well seeing halo reach which is the last in the series comes a few days after
I wonder if, along the release of Shattered Dimensions, Spider-man will be confirmed for Marvel vs Capcom 3?
Labor Day is unoffically the last day of Summer, so the fact that there is alot of games coming out for the fall crush is no suprise. I am kinda suprised on the amount of attention the Batman: Brave and the Bold game has been getting, its almost as much as the new Spider-Man game. I will say that in terms of shear quantity that the first full week of September is going to be the biggest, although I think there are alot of games coming out on the 28th as well.
When I first read the title of this news article, the first thing that came to mind was Arkham City, but at the same time I realized it was too good to be true. And I totally forgot about the other Batman game, but that's because it looks pretty lame anyway. Damn it! This article just makes me want Arkham City even more.
Odd that they included the Dragon Age content but excluded the ME2 Liara content. Anyways Spider-man Shatter Dimensions looks awesome!
Spiderman looks pretty good. I have fond memories of the psone titles. But last time I pre-ordered a game, it was about bears who were being a little too naughty, so i'll have to be weary of titles that might come crashing down...btw, does anyone know if the patches/dlc fixed said game about bears? Cause if it's cheap...
Spiderman looks okay, I am looking forward to the review. Hopefully it will be good, but I'm saving up for lbp 2.
Now that this Kingdom Hearts is finally complete (I suppose it were before it came stateside though.) Will we get new footage of Final Fantasy XIII Versus? Please, Square?
definitely getting tht KH game thts comming out, and it has gave me a reason to return back to playing my psp
@LeMarfanz IDK, just felt like throwin tht out there to anybody thinking of buyin the KH bundle pack which comes wit the psp and the KH game
@Phil-teh-Pirate Yeah that game was great on PC, too. I still play it occasionally. Have you played Ultimate Spider-man? The only thing I really liked about that one was the web-swinging. It was fun just to go around the city. The story parts were pretty bad though.
Damn, I read the title and thought Batman Arkham City's ETA was incredibly wonky. Damn you Gamespot!
I work at Gamestop and it irritates me knowing that we have had Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions in a box in the back for the past week. Cant wait to pick it up on Tuesday.
