Shippin' Out October 23-29: Battlefield 3
EA sends DICE shooter to the front lines as Dance Central 2, Kirby's Return to Dreamland, and Daytona USA also head to market.
The din of anticipation for EA's Battlefield 3 can finally come to an end, as it finally hits store shelves this week. Dance Central 2 is set to follow up last years Kinect-only dance game from Harmonix. The Wii is getting one of its biggest games of the holiday in Kirby's Return to Dreamland, Telltale's adventure game take on Back to the Future is on the way for PlayStation 3 and Wii, and Daytona USA is back for another "rolling start."
After countless trailers and a beta that garnered more than 8 million participants, DICE's latest deploys this week. Set to hit the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, Battlefield 3 has seen a media blitz the likes of which few games are afforded. Although it's not EA's first title of the big release season, it will be its biggest, at least until December 20 when Star Wars: The Old Republic is slated to launch.
Meanwhile, Microsoft's Kinect is celebrating its second holiday season on shelves with a parade of sequels to its biggest launch titles. This week, Harmonix debuts the second installment in its Kinect-compatible dance series. New features in Dance Central 2 include two-player simultaneous dancing, a revamped Break it Down mode, new voice controls, and a whole new lineup of songs.
The Wii has one more holiday season left before the Wii U takes over as Nintendo's primary push in the living room, and Kirby isn't going to miss the chance for another trip back to Dreamland. Although the pink puffball's classic power-stealing ability is back, four player co-op will bring weapon-wielding King Dedede, Meta Knight, and Waddle Dee into the mix on a quest to help the alien Magolor find all the missing pieces of his wrecked ship.
Sega's classic stock car racer, Daytona USA, is coming back for a victory lap on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. This updated release will include 16:9 widescreen support and online, in addition to the traditional Arcade, Survival, and Time Trial modes.
For further details, visit GameSpot's New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.
