Shippin' Out Nov. 15-21: Assassin's Creed II, New Super Mario Bros., Tony Hawk Ride, L4D2

Hectic week at retail sees headliners joined by more EA Sports Active, RE: Darkside Chronicles, God of War Collection, first Sims 3 expansion, NCAA Basketball 10, LBP PSP, more.

Publishers are running out of time if they want to be represented on retail store shelves during Black Friday--the post-Thankgiving retail event which is the busiest of the year. That fact is evident in this week's release lineup, as some of the most high-profile titles of 2009 flood retail shelves this week.

Leading things off is Assassin's Creed II for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. (The PC version won't ship until Q1 2010.) Ubisoft's sequel to the 2007 acclaimed original follows new hero Ezio through the streets of Renaissance-era Venice as well as the Tuscan countryside. In addition to other perks, a GameStop-exclusive $80 Master Assassin's Edition of the 360 and PS3 game includes an 8.5-inch-tall statue of Ezio.

Assassin's Creed II: Discovery for the DS tells a spin-off story, in which Ezio travels to Spain to rescue a fraternal brother held by the Spanish Inquisition. Lastly, Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines for the PSP is a continuation of the original Assassin's Creed and picks back up with Altair as he battles Templars in Cypress.

With Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort already out the door, Nintendo now has its final tent-pole release of the year in the queue: New Super Mario Bros. Wii. One of a handful of Mario-themed games announced during the publisher's E3 2009 press conference, New Super Mario Bros. Wii is a multiplayer-centric platform in which up to four gamers work cooperatively, yet also competitively, to work their way to the end of levels with the best time.

DJ Hero may have let the beat drop in October, but Activision returns with a new peripheral-backed game in Tony Hawk Ride. A reboot of Activision's long-running franchise, the $120 Robomodo-developed skater for the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii includes a wireless full-sized skate deck. The board uses a combination of accelerometers and motion sensors and will require no other controller.

Zombies are never not well-represented at retail, and that goes doubly so this week. EA and Valve team to release the frenetic survival horror shooter Left 4 Dead 2 on the Xbox 360 and PC. Meanwhile, Capcom will test the inhospitable M for Mature market on the Wii with Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. Hardcore PS3 gamers may also be interested in the God of War Collection, a high-def compilation of the first two God of War games that includes a demo for God of War III.

Casual gamers have a number of titles that may pique their curiosity. EA Sports Active: More Workouts will seek to reprise its lucrative debut on the Wii from earlier this year, while Sony and Media Molecule's platformer Little Big Planet hops to the PSP. Warner Bros. has Scene It? Bright Lights! Big Screen! on tap for the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii, while its LucasArts collaboration Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues hits the Xbox 360, PSP, WII, DS, and PC.

EA's PC stalwart The Sims 3 sees its first expansion pack in World Adventures, while EA Sports tips off the college hoops season with NCAA Basketball 10 on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Sony's newest karaoke rhythm game, SingStar Latino, brings Latin tunes to the PS3 and PS2.

For further details on the week's games, visit GameSpot's New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and the Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.

Great game releases in November.

Real gamers will get New SMBWii. The flakes will get everything else on that list.

Harerazer 5 pts

Wow, all these big releases and the only ones worth it for me were Mario and Pokemon Rumble. AC II looks interesting but Uncharted 2 killed it for a lot of the third person action games (aka Tomb Raider clones). Maybe the GoW collection for my kids...

Egotte 5 pts

Only one I'm getting this week is LBP for PSP. Assassin's Creed 2 will make a solid rental. New Super Mario Bros Wii sounds like a good buy, but I'll wait for it used.

enoslives7 5 pts

I'm glad to see that dj-hero was an epic fail. Rap should have died with the 80s.

SingStar Latino? SingStar has just been a dissappointment since it came out on the PS3. About 90% of the songs in the SingStore I have never heard of and none of the videos are in HD, they just get cropped and look like crap.

addictedtochaos 5 pts

L4D2 is freaking awesome!!!! Slaughtering zombies with a katana is very satisfying.

left4right 5 pts

vavle should bundle a real chainsaw whit L4D2.

left4right 5 pts

snoogans460 5 pts

Well, I just picked-up the 'Assassin's Creed 2 : Master Assassin's Edition' and 'Left 4 Dead 2' at Gamestop during their midnight launch. Looks as if I'll also be purchasing the 'God of War Collection' here soon as well. Hmm, I totally forgot about the new 'Scene-It' game however... which is another must buy. Sheesh, my wallet is hurting at the moment, but it's always worth it.

shawn7324 5 pts

I'm passing up on Left 4 Dead 2. Got Assassin's Creed 2 preordered & will start playing Wednesday.

Totally picking up the first Assassin's Creed and GOW collection tomorrow, all for a nice total of $60 bills.

xemnas_kh64 5 pts

Wow. Three Assassin's Creed titles in one day

Wingman1977 5 pts

EA developed the PS3 version of the orange box while Valve did the 360 version. The 360 version doesn't have the EA logo anywhere on the box (only has the valve logo). While the PS3 version has the EA logo on it. Also, neither of the L4D game boxes have the EA logo either (only the Valve logo).

God of War Collection = Stiffy

Strategygamer22 10 pts

I get Assassin's Creed 2 Master Assassin Edition tomorrow and will have to pick up the God of War Collection after Christmas. Why is the 17, a Tuesday, such a huge release date? I would think Friday would be better.

soulless4now 69 pts

I've lost count on how many peripherals Activision has released over the last few years...this is #50, right?

NiteX 7 pts

Gyromancer--X360--Square Enix No PC?

samissleman17 5 pts

Too be honest, I didn't like the first assassins creed. I picked it up recently on steam for 5 bucks, and it was repetative. Not only that, but even the fighting wasn't fun. (the climbing and exploring was it) from what ive seen, its adding new moves, and a more centered storyline. But seriously, L4D 2 looks like sooooo much fun.

DamnedApples 5 pts

I'm going with L4D first since I got some decent deals on it through Amazon and I loved the first one. I'll probably wait for AC2 to get s price drop or two. The first Assassin's Creed dropped pretty quickly despite being a good game, so I'll hold off on it.

Arkady313 5 pts

Whats up with those weird Assassins Creed 2 commercials? They are so simple, love it.

NoLifeGamin 15 pts

Yo, i'm happy for all of you skater wanna-be's, imma let you finish, but Tony Hawk Ride is the biggest fail of all time!

djpetitte 11 pts

@punchultimate @wwonka666 Now I know. I knew it was developed and published by Valve, but wasn't sure how Ea was invloved. Ea makes my favorite series in gaming to date and that's battlefield.
