1st i just want 2 say, WOW ALREADY NEW MAP PACKS!!!, AND I HOPE THEY DONT COST 14.99 LIKE THE 1ST 1.
Resurgence DLC for Activision military shooter and Sega spy role-playing game debut highlight a week including EA's Sims 3: Ambitions, 505 Games' Backbreaker, and Ubisoft's Pure Futbol.
Attempting to top a massive May's worth of new releases sounds like a fool's errand, but the lineup for the first week of June is nothing to shrug off. That's thanks to new Sims and Call of Duty offerings combined with the launch of three new intellectual properties.
Perhaps the biggest release is the second map pack for Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Launching for the Xbox 360, the Resurgence Map Pack ($15) is a collection of five multiplayer environments, which include three new maps and two remade Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare digs. Modern Warfare 2's first batch of downloadable content, the Stimulus Package, drew criticism for its price point but went on to sell more than 2.5 million units. PlayStation 3 and PC versions of the map pack are set to launch at a later date.
Similarly significant in terms of scale is Electronic Arts' Ambitions expansion to its PC hit The Sims 3. For the first time in a Sims game, players can control their sim's livelihood on the job at any of the game's new professions. Ghost hunter, doctor, private investigator, and more are all possible career paths for each sim included in Ambitions.
The first of the new intellectual properties launching this week mixes high-tech gadgetry and espionage with some time-tested role-playing-game character progression. Alpha Protocol is the first original project from Obsidian Entertainment, the studio behind some high-profile sequels like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, Neverwinter Nights 2, and the upcoming Fallout: New Vegas.
With just a couple of weeks left before the World Cup kicks off in South Africa, Ubisoft will jump into the soccer genre with a new sim-minded effort. Due out for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Pure Futbol has Liverpool FC and England midfielder Steven Gerrard on its cover and aims to emphasize the physicality of the sport.
On the American football front, 505 Games is bringing Backbreaker to market. The PS3 and Xbox 360 gridiron simulator strays from the Madden formula in that it's unlicensed (although it does include team customization tools). Backbreaker also features interactive tackles and takes advantage of developer NaturalMotion's physics-based middleware technology (as featured in Grand Theft Auto IV and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed).
For further details on the week's games, visit GameSpot's New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later in the week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.

@bodylotion Well of course I don't mind free DLC but since when was the last time Activision gave out free DLC... Call of Duty 2 I believe. Most companies that used to give some free ones out are now charging highly for them. i.e. SC Conviction, MW2, now Battlefield 2 (sort of, they gave us one free pack out of like 4 and a something new for multiplayer), etc. It's just going to keep on rising.
Not wasting my money on this. THis game is the most overhyperd piece of ShT i ever played. Only thing new and fun in this game is being able to dual wield certain weapons. Where is the carnage added on CODW@W? Why is the campaign even shorter than the short campaign from CDO4? The zombie maps for W@W are so much more fun than these dumb MW2 maps.
u wanna know why i got a job? so i could spend money on whatever the hell i wanted to spend money on. If u dont like the price of the map packs then just dont buy them! play something else
My X box broke the first day the halo reach beta came out which i had halo reach for man that blew since it's broken no point in buying this map pack which i would 15$ that is only an hours worth of work so i don't sweat it.
Well!! I have a better idea for you people!! save your money from three MW:2 dlc map pack investment!! and buy a new fps!! how about MOH or Black Ops or GOW3!! I bet they will have more than just five maps in it!! also a full length single player campaign!!
Wow ya no one should buy that map pack for COD.....because with 3 more packs on the way at $15 a piece we as people are getting owned and not just owned but 10 year old headshot across the map "OWNED". If the gaming community does not stand up now and protest this we will only have ourselves to blame for the future costs of games and DLCs
@mrzero1982pt2 What do I have to realize? Bungie tried to aim for a reasonable price of 40 dollars for Halo 3 OSDT and this managed to change due to MS being selfish. Am I lying about this? No, everyone knows that Bungie wanted that to charge a reasonable price. M$ IS even worse than Activision.
@TheAcejoel99 While I agree with you that 45$ is ridiculous... There is no tax on microsoft points or DLC so it is 45$ even. Everytime I go to Walmart I pay 19.95 flat for 1600 points. Luckily I have 3000 points left over and NOTHING to spend it on so i am going to take the low-blow and purchase this pack >
@Xenon- Actually patching has been around since the nes days. We just haven't noticed it but many of the old cartridge games went through 3 or 4 iterations before they were finally "complete". Final Fantasy 3 for the snes is a good example. That's why if you used an action replay you had to sift through a bunch of codes that did the same thing to get the correct result.
Bunk week but luckily I'm so hooked on ModNation Racers I couldn't care less. I really hope the MW2 map pack bombs this time around. The last pack sucked hard and would have even at $10. I was happy that my roomie was the sucker who payed for it not me(I poached it obviously).
OK, so the consumer must choose between the second overpriced map pack for MW2 with 3 new maps, and 2 copy and pastes? Xbox Live has a deal on right now that gets you every GOW2 map pack (19 maps) for 800 Points ($10). And Activision assumes people would rather buy their half-assed, overpriced garbage? What a joke
I will laugh if there are 4 MW2 map packs at $15 each. That would be the full price for the game. XD Then I would laugh if people say "Get a job and stop whining about it."
If a 3rd Map pack for MW2 comes out and you buy all three of them thats $45 for 9 NEW maps!?!? After taxes thats like the price of a full new game. Infinity Ward, Im disappointed....as is your mother...who by the way says hi.
@Flint247 And If I remember correctly, Bungie was aiming for a reasonable price of 40 dollars (most likely) for Halo 3 OSDT and this managed to change due to MS being selfish. I have respect for Bungie, but M$...meh. If you see my previous posts, you'll see I didn't say anything bad about Bungie, they are kind guys.
Really what's the point into redefine the gaming into fewer incomplete good games released and old games being emulated splitting the scene , it's a little lost for me but i just played half of them with their original controls and now I'm playing games that make much more sense playing on-line than alone or multiplayer with people around me. I know it's me but for me it lost it's senses to turn video game into something like this half new , empty in their sense of real accomplishment
@Flint247 nice joke? is that all are you going to say? oh man, see yourself, THAT'S what I mean...all X360 fanboys are so hypocrites, want to avoid attacking M$ but not Activision I'm glad I'm not an X360 fanboys, I OWN all consoles, here's proof of one of my gamertags, I never cared about paying for xbox live, so I created several ones. i receive some free live cards because of thr RDD and I happily use it: http://gamercard.xbox.com/zzamaro.card
@mrzero1982pt2 and the stimulus pack? it's the SAME, old maps but also new ones and people just complain about this but not about M$, this just because X360 fanboys are all hypocrites, hopefully there may be some X360 users who are with me. you see what I mean? i think you won't even listen.
@zzamaro Nice joke. @mrzero1982pt2 took the words right out of my mouth. Plus, I had no choice, if I wanted to get into the Halo Reach Beta, that was the only way, through ODST. (I know there were codes given but I didn't get a chance to get them)
Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow on PS2? WTF Does anyone still play on PS2 anymore?? I don't even have mine hooked up, not since I got the 360...... Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow should have come out long ago like right after they brought Dark Mirror to PS2........
Xbox 360 users are getting ripped off paying so much extra for the maps after obtaining the full game. In a few months PS3 camp will be milked too with this content! Infinity Ward is nickel and dimming it's Modern Warfare II base for everything we're worth! For those of you were thinking about picking up Modern Warfare II, just wait until the GOTY Edition comes out with all of that downloadable crap stored on the disc.
by the time you buy all the map packs, you could have saved enough to buy a new game like MOH, killzone 3, halo reach, resistance 3 which really will have "new" maps and online modes in addition to a new single player campaign and most probably co-op.
Modern Warfare 2 is a great shooter/action game, but $15 for five maps (when some aren't even new designs) is BS. If game companies still released creation/design tools for players, this whole DLC segment of the video game market would be dead.
oh oh. was 100% NOt gonna buy the new MW2 DLC, but Carnival, Fuel and Trailer Park look like really good maps. so here's the plan: i'll drink one less pint a night for one week and presto, paid for. i know, they're money grubbing and evil and whatnot and so forth. see you all there!
be nice if you get both mw2 packs for 1600 . no way im paying 1200 each. and if they dont have some kind of deal. i`ll just skip the next full game they make.
Alpha Protocol's bad reviews make me worry that Obsidian might be slipping.... I really hope they dont mess up New Vegas
@icekids you do not understand what i said. GAME DEVELOPERS ARE BEGINNING TO CAPITALISE ON DRM! hm, ea's online pass, ubisoft and thq following suit? it wont be long until that 12 bucks you spent on games will go for NOTHING because you will be BOUND to the game! read man, read. companies dont like "sharing". god.
@mrzero1982pt2 you do not understand what I said, I bought five games on PSN and spent only $ 12, because the users can share PSN games, I along with 4 other friends will buy the second set of expansions of MW2, 15 divided by 5 equals the $ 3 ,,,,,,is very good to have good friends ^_^
This is precisely why I didn't buy the MW2 Unnecessary Night-Vision Schwag Edition, because I knew Activision was going to price-rape on new maps. But, I'm addicted to new content, so why not, the other Stimulus maps seemed a lot funner than the original maps that were on the disc.
....What a rip-off the Stimulus package was, now there's an extra map... I can't believe people buy stuff like those, like you've paid for the game already.... it's not worth paying extra on them ....
@icekids how pathetic can you be man. it may come out on the xbox FIRST but it is pretty obvious that it WILL COME OUT ON THE PSN AT THE SAME PRICE! god, gamers, pc, ps3, xbox, we all are being screwed by activision. seriously, can we stop this stupid bickering and realize we all are being screwed? oh, and @icekids, i am pretty sure that activision is taking what capcom did with final fight: double impact, they are following suit. i cant wait til you try to play a "shared" version of a game and it tells you you arent this person. seriously, stuff like this is painfully immature and pathetic. drop it and go play your ps3 in peace
and @zzamaro i am sure there will be come killzone 3 map packs which have some kz2 remakes, but im sure they wont be the price of a used ps3/x360 launch title!
@zzamaro you have to also realize that odst came more than the core game... it came with a bonus disc with EVERY MAP PACK so that was also a bonus. i was a fool and bought the mythic maps and bought odst. know what i did? stopped the game, went to the dashboard and deleted the mythic map pack. seriously, microsoft charges 10 bucks for REAL MAPS. yeah there were some remakes but the thing is there were new points to the map, not a "remake" with absolutely nothing. you sir get a FAIL
$120 for the complete game? Jesus. Did anyone pay for that, the limited edition set? At least they got some cool stuff with it.
3 new maps for £10? Are you serious? lol. I can't believe there are people willing to pay £10 for 3 new maps lol. I mean you can't really include the other 2 maps because the shell of the map is already there, just a few touch ups here and there. Absolutely rediculous.
