Shippin' Out May 3-9: Broken Steel, Patapon 2, Klonoa
Final PC/360 add-on to Fallout 3 launches Tuesday, alongside downloadable-only PSP sequel, Wii remake of Namco platformer, New Play Control Donkey Kong Jungle Beat.
It's a light week for new releases at retailers, and many of the games coming out are arguably not new at all. A handful of remade ports and a compilation make up most of the notable releases this week, but that doesn't include the two most significant releases.
First up is the third Fallout 3 expansion, Broken Steel, available for the Xbox 360 and PC editions of the game on May 5 for $10 (800 Microsoft points).
As detailed in GameSpot's recent preview, the add-on will raise the game's level cap from 20 to 30, as well as add in approximately five to six hours of additional content, according to the publisher. Set around the primary locations in Fallout 3's main storyline, Broken Steel will also be set after Fallout 3's controversial original ending. For more on the expansion, check out GameSpot's interview with game designer Alan Nanes.
The week's other big name is Sony's Patapon 2 for the PSP. Not only is Patapon 2 the sequel to last year's critically applauded new take on the rhythm game genre, but it's also available only in downloadable form. Interested gamers can still pick up the $20 game from retailers, but they will only be buying a code that they must then use to download the game itself to the PSP. The sequel builds on the foundation of the first game with new units, new abilities, a branching leveling system, and a brand-new multiplayer mode.
As for more vintage fare, this week sees the Wii release of Namco's classic original PlayStation platformer Klonoa. The game has players controlling the floppy-eared mascot through 3D worlds, but on set paths that make for 2D gameplay. The Wii revamp features updated graphics as well as the incorporation of motion controls. Purists who prefer to play with controls more akin to the original's will have the option of using a Classic Controller or a GameCube pad.
Also out for the Wii this week is the latest GameCube redux from Nintendo's New Play Control line, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. When the game first came out in 2005, it made use of the GameCube's DK Bongo controller, letting players tap on the drums to command Donkey Kong through the platforming adventure game. That interface has been replaced with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, which make the game control more like a traditional platformer.
Other revamps this week include the DS debut of the PC turn-based strategy game Jagged Alliance, as well as Crysis: Maximum Edition, a compilation of the PC shooter Crysis, its multiplayer mode Crysis Wars, and the stand-alone expansion Crysis Warhead.
For further details on the week's games, visit GameSpot's New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and the Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.

Basically, a slow week...
I went to the PSN store on my PSP and I see nothing for Patapon 2 besides the demo and game videos, do I have to buy a redeem code at GameStop or something to download this?
@RockmanSRD - "I was really into it when it was released, but then Persona 4 came out and I got sidetracked onto that" haha, I hear that, Persona 4 did the same to me too
I downloaded Broken Steel today, along with all the other DLC packs for Fallout 3.... They were kinda like impulse buys, since I haven't played Fallout 3 is months. I was really into it when it was released, but then Persona 4 came out and I got sidetracked onto that. Hopefully these will make it fun to get back into.
@ Payback7: Calm yourself, don't pee on the carpet...
YES!!!! Fallout 3 Broken Steel!! FALLOUT 3 RULES!!!
why do they keep saying you can only buy patapon 2 on DLC? i have patapon 2 on a UMD -_- just look it up at cd.wow it has it pretty cheap there aswell in UMD.
Whoa? I didn't know that Patapon 2 was downloadable only? I guess SONY is preparing us for the PSP 2. Where we say sayonara to the UMD. Now what in the blue hell am I going to do with my UMD games and movies? They better come up with a device that let us transfer the data on the UMD to flash memory format that the PSP 2 will have!
Yeah!Finally Broken Steel :) Nice.
This hopefully will not be the final according to a site that sells game new dlc will be out next month for fallout 3.
sooooooooo....outside of the fallout dlc & plants vs zombies, nothing then.
I highly recommend Klonoa if you never got a chance to play it on the PS1. It's a real gem of a platformer. Great to see Patapon back, too. Hopefully this leads to a big upswing of download-only games, to keep the pirates somewhat at bay.
umd is needed for psp lol, if they do all dlc they better give a hdd , , lol , that will be the only way oh and release psn cards nation wide in every gamestore its finally in walmart lol ,
i'll be getting broken steel but i'll wait 2 weeks.i dont want to download it 4 times
Next week should make up for the past two weeks. Wake me up in a week.
Yeah didn't you hear Nintendo doesn't make games anymore. They just cash in on stuff that you have already played and crap that nobody wants to play.
so can i play the donkey kong game with a wii mote only cause that would be the only control sceme id want. No more motion platformers.
Ok so let me get this straight: I already knew DK wasn't anything new (just "New Play Control!!"), but Klonoa is just a rehash too (the same game just with slightly better graphics/motion controls)? Pathetic
Fallout 3 DLC I will get on Wednesday or Thursday as for the rest of the list.....WEAK
for the love of god Bethesda make this DLC at least interesting
most important games mentioned are fallout 3 broken steel and patapon 2.
Well, at least for me Broken Steel does not come out until Thursday.. because for as much as I am anticipating the completion of my Fallout 3 DLC collection.. there is NO WAY in hell I'm downloading it first day after "The Pit" fiasco.
yusss yusss... broken steel... finally :D

Boring
Those that really want the UMD, just import from Europe.
Pon Pon Pata Pon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P
game has a lovely art style
pata pata pata pon!
Why is this article in the 360 section?
Pata Pata Pon!!! Getting it soon!! can't wait.
Well finally! I'm getting sick of UMDs and I honestly think that making it all downloadable would be better. I usually perfer solid formats, but UMD is just plain annoying.
KLONOA
Good, down with UMD! If the entire PSP library was downloadable there's easily a half dozen titles I'd probably pick up. I just hate the UMD drive so much (so slow and noisy) it's a hassle to play with.
I'm kind of bummed that Patapon 2 isn't UMD based, but I'm stoked to play it. I loooooove the first one.
What I'm looking forward to is that awesome new puzzle game Crysis: Maximum Edition. I bet that game's gonna be even better Tetris! :P
ALLRIGHT! NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM FTW!!! ...no... but i really wanna beat klonoa again, even if the voice actors in the wii version are pretty annoying
ugh i wanna play patapon and a bunch of other psp games but i also wanna play some gameboy stuff....
Crysis: Maximum edition is a Puzzle game?
20 bucks either way huh? Might as well walk into the store and get a box for it. It's not much of a test when there's no price advantage to downloading vs. picking it off a shelf. Why should I pay the same money for no case when I can pay the same money and essentially get the case and manual for "free"? At least put a slight price cut on the direct DL, geez.
dustin off mah wii for klonoa
@ power-baron "You can't seriously tell me a card is easier to misplace then a UMD is, thats just stupid." are you okay upstairs? you're trying to say that a thin piece of plastic isn't hard to lose and a mini disk in a chunk of plastic is? next thing you know you'' be saying that houses are easier to lose than keys.
Patapon 2 is not out yet ind the US? its out since 3 weeks in Europe.
all what i need Crysis: Maximum Edition
coooooooool
DANG I NEED A BIGGER FREAKING MEMORY STICK!!!!!!!!!!!! AGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Klonoa remake is fantastic. I just finished it yesterday. Gamestop is selling the game already so if you can't wait until the 5th to play it go see if a Gamestop near you is carrying it. No Wii-owner should miss out on this amazing platformer.
@power-baron I understand your thinking, but I always have and always will prefer to buy a solid copy of my game. It's more gratifying to actually walk to the store, and swap your hard-earned *cough*right*cough* cash for that game. Digital distribution lacks the part of the process that adds excitement and suspense - it's more fun to do the potty dance in the car, waiting to plug that sucker in and get to it, than to just stay parked on your butt and wait for a bar to fill up.
