Shippin' Out June 13-19: Toy Story 3

By Eddie Makuch

Disney Interactive Studios' motion picture tie-in, Nintendo's 100 Classic Books, World War II submarine game Naval Assault: The Killing Tide highlight a slow week.

The 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo kicks off this coming week in Los Angeles, and the industry clearly has the show at the top of its priority list. Unlike past weeks, which saw the release of high-profile add-on content and games including Modern Warfare 2's second map pack, Konami's Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and Green Day: Rock Band, this week sees fewer new releases in both number and prominence.

Pixar's third installment in the Toy Story series comes to theaters this Friday, and Avalanche Software joins in on the animated action with a video game debuting Tuesday. Toy Story 3: The Video Game comes to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, DS, PC, and Wii on June 15, three days before the animated flick hits theaters. The game isn't directly tied to the film's narrative, so those who pick up the game on launch day needn't fear spoiling the film for themselves.

One other title being released this week is 505 Games' Naval Assault: The Killing Tide, a World War II submarine combat Xbox 360 exclusive, debuting June 15. The game has 30 missions set in the North Atlantic and multiplayer modes for up to four players.

For the portable gamer, Nintendo releases 100 Classic Books on Monday June 14. As its name suggests, this pocket-sized library has 100 novels packed in, from literary greats William Shakespeare, Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, and more.

Also appearing Tuesday is Superbike World Championship SBK for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. This latest installment in the superbike series, from Black Bean Games, is a fully licensed title and includes the World Superbike Championship's cars, tracks, teams, and game modes.

For further details on the week's games, visit GameSpot's New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later in the week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.

@pelvist Closer to $10 for sure, those greedy publishers need their cash.

pelvist 14 pts

@ekultus Yes they are... Console manufacturers have made money on licencing royalty fees for many years. (especially Nintendo) Nowadays for every 3rd party game you buy $10 > $20 of the money spent on that game goes to the console manufacturer, this is how they get away with selling consoles so cheap, they make money on software sales. In other words, PC gamers pay just as much to the developers for their games as you do, but they dont have to pay an extra $10 > $20 to the console manufacturer since the PC is an open platform.

ekultus 5 pts

@pelvist Dude royalty fees are not $20 per unit.

nice, another week entirely compossed of shovelware, quality time to gather more appreciation for the games I already have... and buy them flowers

nparks 14 pts

Another week, another wave of completely irrelevant Wii/DS games. Who's actually buying these things?

jazilla 15 pts

Let's Play Ballerina is gonna be a MAJOR time sink for me. Had to take vacation time for it at work. Can't wait!

I've read that the English version of unwritten tales was canceled. I don't think this date is accurate. I hope it is, but i don't think so.

I have some hope for Naval Assault.

The Book of Unwritten Tales looks humorous and not bad visually for a point & click adventure. Toy Story 3 looks standard, but diverse enough for a movie platformer. I'm a little curious about Naval Assault, Artech have had several semi-successful low budget games going back to Raze's Hell, including the XBLA game Aces of the Galaxy and probably deserve at least a little attention because of it. 100 Classic Books should have had even more content, considering every one of those books are free public domain downloads they should have packed the cart completely full, and given all they had to do was make an eye pleasing doc reader, but who can argue with the idea for the DS.

And wow, alot more shovelware for the Wii and DS. I'm so glad I come to this site for game details.

I actually liked playing as Woody in the first game for SNES, Good times. Toy Story 2 on 64 kinda sucked. Movie games these days are terrible so I'll avoid this.

@ekultus Because publishers dont have to pay royalty fees for having their games on PC.

Woah, Gamespot forgot to report that FFIX is coming to the PSN.

SLAMMIN23 10 pts

im getting toy story 3 i was watching live streaming of it and the game looks awesome escpecially toy box mode and the best part u can run the toys over and have 2 players on this game

TheTrueMagusX1 5 pts

@Zloth2 After the rather relentless onslaught of excellent games that was the first half of the year, I would not mind a bit of down time for releases in the summer. It will be nice to catch up on some games and replay classics, or play classics I never have played before.

Already got Toy Story 3 for 360 paid in full at Amazon w/ RDS on tuesday:-)....also get a $10 gaming credit and it's a must for me as a huge platformer fan!!.

sonynhater 5 pts

The Toy Story game actually looks pretty decent. You guys just haven't seen much footage or read up on it.

Zloth2 39 pts

E3? No, there's not much coming out because it's summer time. After E3, you can snooze until August and not miss a thing in the computer gaming world.

TheTrueMagusX1 5 pts

I am surprised that Gamespot left out the fact that FFIX is going to be on the PSN this tuesday. Fortunatley I have a hard copy of the game but still great game and it will be great to have all three PSX FFs on PSN!

When I first heard that Toy Story 3 was finished and coming to theaters the next summer (I heard that back in 09) memories from my childhood hit me like a ton of bricks. Toy Story is pixars greatest acheivement, and that's saying something see as how they made Nemo,The incredibles, and Cars. But Toy story was also Pixars first. Toy Story ftw :D

BioDogshock 5 pts

Aww man toy story 3 is on the xbox 360 too? So much for pixar-quality graphics on teh cell :\

Flinet91 5 pts

Looks like im not the only one thinking of wathing that toy story movie atleast:P

green_dominator 5 pts

What an absolutely boring week for game releases, I'll skip the Toy Story 3 game but I'll definitely go see the film in theater. At least the entire week isn't a total bust, E3 is going to be insane [in a good way] I'm looking forward to seeing more Deus Ex, Mortal Kombat, Test Drive Unlimited 2,Fallout New Vegas, Bullet Storm and Halo Reach just to name a few.....

kwloy 5 pts

OMG TOY STORY 3!!!!!! Not gunna get the game but deef gunna watch it! Toy Story = a large majority of my childhood lol

prioritymail 5 pts

You know it is a weak lineup of games being released when the story leads with "Toy Story 3"

JaxxRaxor 8 pts

No surprise on most of the games this week being no-name casual games with E3 going on the same year. Toy Story 3 is the only major game (this Naval Tides is only notable for only being on the HD consoles). My limited knowledge of the Toy Story 3 game tells me its going to be better than the average tie-in. Hopefully it will be more on the level of something like the Spiderman 2 and Wolverine Origins games and not the usual movie tie-in crap. Althrough I am much more interested in the movie proper then the game.

cjasko94 5 pts

The Toy Story game on the Sega Genesis/Super Nintendo was fun; loved the music.

akiwak 5 pts

Just like last year, no big releases during E3 week!

ekultus 5 pts

Why so cheap for PC and expensive for console?

the_antivirus 5 pts

I remembered playing the first Toy Story game on Sega Genesis back in the 90s. 90s rules!

With the exception of toy story 3? really?

PHILRYABKIN 5 pts

Looks like a bunch of crap is coming out with the exception of Toy Story 3.

The Book of Unwritten Tales looks like it will be good fun, the rest on that list isnt too great.
