Shippin' Out July 31 - Aug. 6: Bleach: Soul Resurreccion
Anime fighting game leads light week of new releases; Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet lands on 360 as Limbo bows on PS3.
The holiday gauntlet is almost here, but there are still a handful of low-key release weeks remaining before Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Madden NFL 12 tip off a nearly nonstop parade of high-profile picks to keep gamers busy until 2012. This week's biggest retail debut belongs to NIS America with the PlayStation 3 game Bleach: Soul Resurreccion.
Adapted from the hit anime, Soul Resurreccion is a 3D brawler along the lines of the Dynasty Warriors series. The game features 11 playable characters from the series, including main character Ichigo Kurosaki (along with his Hollow form), soul reaper Rukia Kuchiki, and arrancar antagonist Ulquiorra. Apart from fighting mobs of undead souls called Hollows, players can also customize the playable characters using the soul orb system, where players move pieces on a board and take over orbs to power up their characters of choice.
On the downloadable front, both the Xbox 360 and PS3 have aesthetically intriguing offerings on tap. For the Microsoft crowd, the 2D shooter Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet arrives as the third installment in the Xbox Live Summer of Arcade promotion. Meanwhile, PS3 owners will get a chance to try one of last year's Summer of Arcade titles as Playdead's Limbo makes its way to Sony's downloadable storefront.
For further details on the week's games, visit GameSpot's New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and the Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.
