Nintendo's sports bundle sequel due out Sunday, with Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 slamming onto Xbox 360; KOFXII PS3/360-bound; Bionic Commando and East India Company sail to the PC.
Although this week is host to a series of notable titles--like Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on the Xbox 360, and Bionic Commando for the PC--they will likely be dwarfed by Sunday's release of Nintendo's Wii Sports Resort. The sports game debuted in Japan in mid-June with nearly 360,000 units sold in its first week and has received ample critical praise.
Bundled with the Wii MotionPlus, the minigame collection offers over 20 activities--more than double the number of its predecessor, 2006's Wii Sports. Many of the included sports games take advantage of the expanded control provided by the MotionPlus, such as Frisbee Dog and archery. Other new sports include swordplay, basketball, canoeing, cycling, and wakeboarding.
Deploying from another popular franchise is the sci-fi shooter Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection. The add-on will bundle the "Dark Corners" expansion, which includes three new multiplayer maps (Flashback, Snowblind, and Combustible) and the "Road to Ruin" single-player chapter, and all previous map packs into one MSP1,600/$19.99 package on Xbox Live. (A proposed boxed retail product was canceled just before last month's Electronic Entertainment Expo.) Dark Corners is also available a la carte for MSP1,200/$14.99.
Xbox 360 users might be glad to learn that the classic fighter Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will hit the Xbox Live Arcade this week, two weeks before its release on the PlayStation 3. Although Capcom's arcade game hit the PlayStation 2 and Xbox several years ago, the Xbox 360 release will feature three graphics settings--classic, crisp, and smooth--and remains faithful to the purist-favored Dreamcast edition of 2000.
Gamers can also duke it out with The King of Fighters XII. In this 12th installment of the brawling series, developers at SNK Playmore have redrawn the characters from scratch, first creating a 3D model of the character, posing it, and then using it as a guide for traditional, "hand-drawn" 2D pixel art. The release of King of Fighters XII marks the 15th anniversary of the fighting franchise, which first appeared on SNK's own arcade hardware, the NeoGeo. The game retains the trademark three-on-three fighting action of the series and boasts a roster of over 20 characters.
Although Capcom's prolific arcade fighter carries on, its sci-fi adventure Bionic Commando is limping to the PC. The series was hamstrung by poor sales and lackluster reviews on its Xbox 360 and PS3 editions released last May. The Windows edition will support higher screen resolutions than their counterparts and touts remappable controls, mouse-and-keyboard support, and DirectX 9 and 10 compatibility.
Rounding out this week's releases is a voyage back to the 18th century. From the Finnish developer Nitro Games is the naval game East India Company, which is a unique combination of naval trading and warfare, exclusively for the PC. Players can control colonial markets by trading such commodities as tea, spices, gold, and silk and can wage war on the high seas in real-time strategy battles.

The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and the Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. @ alkaline_DnB Nope! They are right! It just a early release. The 28th is the official release date.
Nintendo made the best thing ever in this game: Important Miis. Someone used that feature and got to play ping pong with Jesus
@acsam, I have a Dreamcast and the DC version of MvC2 (and also a burned copy with un-terrible background music). I want the PS3 version for the online play...now! :)
@ damonkeypirate funny, it wasn't listed yesterday. it has since been edited after the obvious mistake it seems. still wrong tho. the game's already out.
@gameweasl Did you miss this? "Gamers can also duke it out with The King of Fighters XII. Need to be revised with fat princess coming out on july 30th!!!!....For only $15 FINALLY!!!...http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3175325 Please gamespot do an update!
Hey everybody, Fat Princess just got a release date for THIS Thursday!!! July 30th on PS Blog, I guess it was a smart move for capcom to delay the ps3 version of MVC2, heck I could probably wait a month now with these kind of news!!!
Picked up Wii Sports Resort and played it for 4 hours with family and fiancee and we loved it. They are simple gamers who enjoy the ease of the Wii and so they did a great job on this title. We've been playing Grand Slam Tennis now for a month and love it also.
It's sad that Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 won't be avaible for Wii... Let's hope Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom could relieve my sadness.
@jshaas do you mwan TMNT Turtles in Time? ahh hell no im a PS3 lover but hell na PSN what is wrong with u get the rights to the game NOW! that game is soo much fun back in the days. i can still remember the sound tracks and everything. also" ITS PIZZA TIME!"
@ItsEvolution simple go to a gamestop or game crazy. ask them how much does MvsC 2 goes for. they will say cuz it a rare game it will go for $79 or over. go to ebay or amazon and you will the bids and the selling price very high so now with Mvs.C 2 coming out for Live and PSN. for like $9.99. im guessing thats going to be a big slap in the face for any game store selling the game over $50 used with no case no manual just the game. im going to call gamestop today and ask them if the price will get reduced. but it might be the fact a game store is selling a hard copy of the game. and there are no more hard copys. so they can still sell it for over $50 used cuz it still is a rear item to get teh real original hard copy of the game. a friend of my named Jose has the dream cast version of the game. just think about how much money he has sitting there.
@hassy94 you didnt get the joke. i was playing as a angry PS3 onwer that cant wait just 2 weeks. i was going to leave out the just messin with ya. but then again i was thinking that you will take it the wrong way. so i added that and you still took it the wrong way. lol na man im not mad that was suppose to me sarcasm. i could care less it WILL come out for the PS3 in 2! WEEKS! . and like i said be4 its not like the PSN is ever going to run out of copies. it just gives live 2 weeks to sale the game. and what? its not like in 2 weeks a 360 user will be soo good at it. and cuz the PS3 got it 2 weeks later there going to suck na. if you got the skill to be good at it then youll be good at it no matter what console you have. the thing i dont get why the hell will i care who sales more on what console. some people are saying Live will sale more and the PSN will not. or the PSN will sale more and Live will not. i mean who the F*** cases who sales who. there both selling the same game.
Your comment disgusts me. Preference is preference, and my friends can blow themselves if they don't appreciate or respect my tastes, be it in chubby girls OR games. But yes, shame for not noting KOF.
Sold my Wii 2 months ago after 1 year and just Zelda... It's no longer promising or exciting like it once was. Now it's just old news.
Playing Wii Sports Resort is like having sex with a chubby girl; it's a lot of fun, but you don't want your really close friends to catch you doing it.
Hey Matthew Peters and gamespot you forgot King of Fighters XII !!!! Honestly how can you forget to put this title on the list?!?!?!
OH NOES MvC2 is out on 360 first!!! I have a PS3, and this doesn't bother me one bit... I have plenty of other good games to play over the next two weeks. Remeber when GTA was a PS2 exclusive? All is fair in love and system wars! The only thing I've seen on Live that isn't on PSN is Turtles in Time... that game is so much fun. Oh, and MK3.
I played Wii Sports Resort and my local Gamestop over the weekend but all I had time for was the archery and frisbee dog. And to be honest, I couldn't even tell the difference with it having the motion plus attachment. Guess it'll be more promising with other games tho.
@acsam12304 "@hassy94 you knwo what man! i have a PS3. just messin with ya and i dont care if i have to wait 2 more week. go ahead tumbs down me people. 2 weeks is nothing. its not like there ever goign to run out of copies of the game anyways. plus i can go right now to my naborhood arcade and play it. or if i really want the real game fork over $79 to a game store who has it as a reare item" Okay calm down. I wasn't trying to make PS3 owners feel bad about getting it late. Someone asked why there was a gap between the 2, and I was trying to explain, that is all. Take a deep breath, and learn to read a post properly. I mean I know you said you were "just messin" with me but you seemed quite angry throughout. This is my original post, by the way:- "Why can't they release MvC2 simaltaneously..." Because Capcom want all the people with both consoles to buy it on the Xbox 360. The reason for this is that they are charged for each downloaded item on PSN by Sony, while on Xbox Live, Microsoft pays for it with Gold Membership money. Getting more out on the Xbox 360 benefits the developer/publisher, so that's why it gets a head start.
Picked up Wii Sports Resort, the sword fighting is a lot of fun, it's the only thing I've played, haven't been able to switch to the other stuff yet.
The Wii Motion + accessory seems to be really promising, it's pretty much a 1 to 1 movement now, gonna be exciting if they ever bring out a new Zelda. Hopefully we see more games for it soon, (something other than sports).
Wii Sports Resort looks a LOT more promising than the original Still pissed @ no online though... and it sucks that MvC2 doesn't come out for 2 more weeks >_>
@ OptimusPrime085..... I did think, I thought about all the times just xbox owners had to wait that wonderful grace period, I remember times myself that I waited...so don't think that I am left out. I don't feel sorry even for one second, cause I know there are games that I will have to wait for, it's the gaming industry EVERYONE has to wait at some point in time.
Seems fair that MVC2 is being released to 360 first. Heck we ps3 users got the demo first. So stop whining and enjoy the demo. We technically got it first before 360 users even got it -_-. *goes to use spiderman, wolverine, and ryu*
@brownman321 yet an other one who doesnt own a PS3 know anything abotu the PSN. stop with the same argument already. the PS3 has teh same speed as teh 360. want to knwo the ones who are crying for paying for live member ship? there the ones who gets on there news articals and post "live is better cuz we pay so theres no lag and nothing. while PSN is free so it lags so much u cant even use" theres the ones who are really crying out i dont like to pay $50 for live. cuz everyone knows that the PSN is the same lag free network like the 360 live. onyl thing is when u buy things from teh PSN u pay with money. while on the Live u pay with point but u spend read money to get point so you are really spending real money to get content same thing.
@hassy94 you knwo what man! i have a PS3. just messin with ya and i dont care if i have to wait 2 more week. go ahead tumbs down me people. 2 weeks is nothing. its not like there ever goign to run out of copies of the game anyways. plus i can go right now to my naborhood arcade and play it. or if i really want the real game fork over $79 to a game store who has it as a reare item
"so with marvel vs capcom 2 coming for PS3 and 360. for everyone to get there hands on and play idk i 4got the price like 9.99 for it. does that mean. the case version. that goes for 79.99 still at game stores cuz its such a rare game will get riped off. so stores like game stopw ill have to slel it normal price now?" ....what?

I'm really disappointed that GameSpot is choosing to ignore BlazBlue. At first, I thought that their lack of any kind of preview/review was due to the fact that they were going to review it alongside its regular edition being released on July 28th, but after this, I'm not so sure anymore.
wii sports 2 first day buy for me , hahaha gears can take a back seat to many fpses . to begin with , plus its just add ons , bori ng,
Sorry to be another supposed whiny 2 year old, but having to wait two more weeks for MvC2 is total BS. It just is.
Enough of the whining. At least odds are PS3 owners will get the games. You guys don't seem to be crying when you're getting all the 360's top games. (Bioshock, Lost Planet, Dead Rising). Oh well at least we still got Valve.
@Killer6b9: I wonder if you would say the same thing if it was you who had to wait and NOT PS3 owners, don't think I'm a hater, I own all three current gen systems, and I sympathize with those who are upset because they are being held back from playing a great game for no apparent reason. think before you post.
