@J0nGalt - It deals with the history of black colleges and such aka why the title has the word black in it.
Cing's RTS/RPG hybrid and XBLA action platformer blow up retail; PSN's Shatter, Watchmen compilation, and Rock Band Country Track Pack also mosey into stores.
Although there isn't a major release headlining this week's slate of games, there are several platform exclusives ducking under the radar, including Little King's Story for the Wii, 'Splosion Man and Black College Football Experience for the Xbox 360, and Shatter for the PlayStation 3.
Already out in Europe and Australia, Little King's Story is a critically acclaimed real-time strategy/role-playing hybrid exclusively for the Wii. The title was developed by Cing, the maker of Trace Memory and noir-style Hotel Dusk: 215. As outlined in GameSpot's review, Little King's Story is filled with gorgeous visuals, epic boss battles, and layers of subtle wit and cross-cultural references.
Only for the Xbox 360 are 'Splosion Man and a new version of Black College Football Experience, which was originally a 2007 PC game. Twisted Pixel's 'Splosion Man is an Xbox Live Arcade exclusive with 50 single-player levels and 50 multiplayer levels and can host up to three other players. In this action game, players control a laboratory's freak specimen who breaks out from his testing facility. Aspyr's new football sim, Black College Football Experience - The Doug Williams Edition, features 36 teams from black colleges and universities. There are also rhythm-based minigames during halftime.
Exclusively on the PlayStation Network for the PlayStation 3 is Shatter, a brick-breaking arcade game revival. As previewed on GameSpot, gamers must simultaneously play goalie and shooter, breaking bricks using an orb while trying to prevent the ball from getting past the player.
Despite a number of platform-specific games coming out this week, there are also some multiplatform releases. Disney's G-Force is coming out as an action game on the DS, PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360--an adaptation of the upcoming computer-generated guinea pig film. For the PS2, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 is Rock Band County Track Pack, which bundles 21 country hits like "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" and Kenny Roger's "The Gambler." For the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, parts one and two of Watchmen: The End Is Nigh are available as packages, though under separate title names. The PlayStation 3 package includes a Blu-ray disc of the film. See the list below for name details.
Barely missing this week's slate of releases is Wii Sports Resort, due out July 26 for the Wii. Bundled with the Wii MotionPlus peripheral, the game is a minigame compilation that introduces sword dueling, wakeboarding, archery, Frisbee, basketball, golf, table tennis, bowling, jet-skiing, cycling, canoeing, and air sports to the Wii Sports franchise.
For further details on the week's games, visit GameSpot's New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and the Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Splosion Man has been getting scores of 9.0s from all of the reviews done on it so far. It has 50 unique single player levels 50 unique co-op/ local or online multiplayer levels Time trial mode Hardcore mode Free themes First game to give away free avatar accessories and is scoring 9's in reviews with plenty of replay value and good length. Reviews say it goes beyond N+ and does it much better. All for $10 SOLD
I'll be picking up Shatter for sure it looks like alot of old school fun with a new school kick. Have to admit Splosion Man looks real good too and Id throw my roomie 10 bucks to download it except his 360 broke for the 4th time a few days ago.
wait....."Black college football."???? I wish someone would make a mom game and call it "White (only) college football." Just make it as blatantly racist as the name sounds.
I didn't know that they was putting the two Watchmen episodes on a retail disc, that makes me happy as a seal barking for a fish! So I was wrong, there are two releases worthy of playing this month.
I feel it is ironic that there is another Rock Band track pack release this week, when maybe the Black College Football Experience could have been released using the same expansion pack model. Think about this for a sec - had they released this arguably massive expansion for EA's NCAA Football 10, the "game" would have had an installed base of potentially a million units to work at, a game already in homes from a well known publisher like EA. It would keep people playing that game a la Burnout, Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Fallout 3, etc etc. Instead, if this unknown developer Aspyr gets a few bad reviews, it will really kill sales. As it is, I am sure most people are thinking rental first. While I am sure the Black College Experience tells its own unique story, doesn't it just make sense to get more exposure with a known brand as an expansion pack? Instead of creating it's own (overly wordy) brand name? Just my 2 bits.
Wait don't read the top article it is a waste of time...the only game worthy of mention is Little King...copy it, paste it, google it ...DONE.
Little King's Story is a no-brainer; everything else looks extremely missable. I do recommend Pangya for the PSP if you like wacky golf, though, and missed its quiet launch last week.
something for the rednecks- Reelfishing, RockBand Country pack african americans- Black College Football Experience hispanics- that juarez hamster in G-Force
Umm, isn't Turtles in Time supposed to be the XBLA game coming out on the 22nd? If I recall correctly; every site, including this one, stated it would be releasing on the 22nd.
Just waiting for an interesting game, maybe MADDEN 10... just waiting... waiting..... WHY DO THESE GAMES SUCK!!!!
I'm actually looking forward to Little Kings Story...not sure why it took so long to get over here but still.
With power of the PS3 & 360... couldn't EA just put the HBC's in the game... no pun intended. I mean they used to have I-AA schools in it. This would save a dev like Aspyr from any ridicule, and would allow anyone that want's to test their "drumline" skills to do so in one game. We're only 55 comments in, and there's already plenty of ignorance posted. The name of the game is pretty lame though. Yeah, it's weak week.
I need something interesting to play, stat. Right now I'm playing n+, puzzle quest, and sometimes dig out old games that I can't play more than 15 minutes. This week will not remedy my boredom.
Little King's Story purchase. Since Nintendo is taking forever with Pikmin 3, this will fill in the gap.
hmm nothing good I was hoping marvel vs capcom was going to be pushed up from the 29 but sadly its not
And just to clarify my previous statement....I was not being racist in any form, I was simply pointing out the fact that there is a lot of history in "Blacks" and football if you would do the research you may find it to be quite interesting. Kenny Washington March 21st, 1946 signed to play for the Los Angeles Rams....good stuff
1. WTF? Black College Football Experience? What's the point of that? *is black* 2. Shatter looks interesting... but if it's $10 it's not worth it IMO 3. Worst RB Track Pack ever. I hate country 4. Wii finally gets a really good game and it's one I'm not interested in >__>
This is the dumbest thing ever. How in the hell can this kind of crap get made? If a white game was made,Everybody from jesse jackson to al sharpton would be up in arms over. You know its DAMN true.
meh nothing interesting except for splosion man i'll check out that little kings one but i doubt i'll like it since its on the wii
