Console exclusives rule the week, as Xbox 360, PS3, Wii headliners join Capcom's Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars.
Between Bayonetta, Army of Two, and Darksiders, January hasn't been wanting for big-name releases. Keeping that streak running through the end of the month, January's final week has on tap high-profile console exclusives for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii.
With BioWare's fantasy epic Dragon Age: Origins still on the mind of many role-playing game fans, the Canadian studio is already returning with the sci-fi offering Mass Effect 2. Available for the Xbox 360 and PC, it picks up where the acclaimed original Mass Effect left off, taking back up with Commander Shepard as he recruits a new crew in his ongoing quest to halt the Reapers' threat to the galaxy. The Mass Effect 2 Collectors' Edition will be available for $69.99 on the Xbox 360 and $59.99 on the PC--$10 more than the standard edition price.
SOCOM veterans Zipper Interactive will deploy its new military action game MAG exclusively on the PS3 this week. The multiplayer-only online shooter features up to 256 players in a single game. Each player will assume a different rank on each side, viewing the battlefield according to his or her station. Commanders will see the action from a top-down view from which they can direct lower-level soldiers, who will see from a first-person point of view on the front lines.
The Wii actually has a pair of high-profile titles hitting this week: Grasshoper Manufacture's No More Heroes 2: Desperate struggle and Capcom's Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars. The former sees players again assuming the role of the spastic Travis Touchdown three years after he ascended the ranks of the United Assassin's Association. Meanwhile, Capcom's cross-brand fighter draws from more than 20 characters that populate the game publisher's and Japanese anime production house's respective character stables.
For further details on the week's games, visit GameSpot's New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and the Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.

Xbox players get Mass Effect 2 PS3 players get MAG Wii players get TvC and No More Heroes 2 It's going to be a fun week for someone who owns all three systems.
All these games comming out today are ALL FREAKING SWEET. MAG. Just awesome easily the FPS award this year. Mass Effect 2. Come on it is Mass Effect you know what you will get from it :D NMH2: This game combines the seriousness of a gore filled game and a comedy of a awesomeness Am i right or what what an AWESOME DAY TO BE A GAMER!!!
Even with just six days, Mass Effect 2 will easily sell the most this month. And for good reason, it's quite fun. I'd be surprised if MAG makes it in the Top 10.
So the PS3 gets MAG, the 360 gets Mass Effect 2, and the Wii gets TvC & No More Heroes. Wii for the win!
@Paladin_King yeah, I agree, despite that M-rated non-Nintendo published Wii games are already near a death sentence on those grounds alone, I think that having to compete again Mass Effect 2, MAG, and TvC is probably going to hurt it even further, and with the coming release, like Bioshock 2, Alien vs Predator, God of War 3, Final Fantasy XIII, the fate of this No More Heroes is pretty certain
I will be at Blockbuster (nearest possible store to my house that sells game) at opening to buy Mass Effect 2. No More Heroes will have to wait. @lamprey263 It doesn't help that it's sandwiched between Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2. Even if you're a hardcore gamer, unless you've got a lot of money to drop or you only own a Wii, chances are you'll be getting something else.
For as good as No More Heroes 2 looks, it probably won't sell well, such is the fate of good games on the Wii not published by Nintendo, and I'm sure the M rating won't go over well with soccer moms either. Anyhow, strangely No More Heroes 2 has no plan yet to be released in Japan, just in North America and Europe. However, in Japan, they'll be re-releasing No More Heroes Paradise (the remake of the first No More Heroes) next month on February 25th, on both the Xbox 360 and PS3; hopefully this breathes new life into the series outside the Wii. As strange as Grasshopper Manufacture's decision not to release No More Heroes 2 in Japan on the Wii, Ubisoft has decided not to release No More Heroes Paradise in North America and Europe. What the hell is up with that?
Mass Effect would be a great movie...but a video game?...no thanks. If i wanted to read hrs. of dialogue i'd read a damn book.
@Djin- Your a personal trainer, or you need a personal trainer?! Probably need a personal trainer, Burger King has some fatty food! And if you make more than me( Probably not) then why do you complain about the price?! From what I see in your messages, your just a hot headed person who never gets his/her way!
I'm so hyped for Mass Effect 2! I can't wait to pick up my Collector's Edition copy tomorrow from Gamestop.
With Mass Effect 2 released on the same day, things don't look to good sales wise for NMH 2, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, and MAG.
@Djin...you say you are a personal trainer but im bigger than you are and i'm 19....no offense like you said in your about me.... dont take anything i say seriously online :)
God I can't wait for Mass Effect 2. I've been replaying the first to get caught back up on the story, but it's made me really see how flat the combat was. With the combat being significantly overhauled I'm even more anxious to get a second offering of interstellar synthetic slaying action. .... not gonna lie I've had the collector's edition pre-ordered for a long while now.
@fatpumba3 So when kids say something, it's fine, but since I have some age behind me, I'm an arrogant person. Sweet. I guess it's nice to have money, an awesome car and house. I don't care. If you don't like me, I won't lose sleep over it.
@ Anyone who is annoyed with Djin gloating about how much money he makes, how awesome he thinks he is because he's a fitness trainer, and/or his overall disrespect. This is a link to an image he uploaded on his profile entitled me: http://www.gamespot.com/users/Djin/view_image?id=NtIB7ksv7hmb4BHmkQ Enough said.
Blood Bowl is finally getting out the door and they end up releasing the same day as Mass Effect 2? Jeez, good luck guys.
@KillerWabbit23 Are you talking about why publishers decided to release their games in early 2010 rather than late 2009? I think Modern Warfare 2 was slightly a factor, though I think most publishers wanted to avoid a repeat of 2008 where too many good games flooded the market in like 1 month between mid-October to mid-November, thus hurting the sales of even good games because not everyone could buy them all. It's funny though, everyone avoided a holiday release to avoid competition, thus creating the same competition they were avoiding in the first place. Though, Bad Company 2 is the only game I knew of that planned long in advance to release away from Modern Warfare 2 just so MW2 didn't conflict with its sales, but everyone else I think just didn't want to have to deal with competitive holiday release window in general.
All I gotta say, its you kids buy way too many games. every week I see the releases, and you are like, " im buying game A, B, and C this week." If you buy more than one game a week, how do you ever have time to finish them? unless thats all you do is play games. I mean, how would you need more than one game a month? You guys have to start spending your money on more important stuff, and 1, maybe 2 games a month. Quit buying every game that comes out because it was advertised. Kids these days.
WHOA. And to think this was all caused by a little game called Modern Warfare 2.... My wallet will never be the same.
Jeez, I see if anyone expresses any enthusiasm for a game some people out there are big fat haters giving thumb downs across the forum. If people say they want Mass Effect 2 they get a thumbs down, same goes for MAG enthusiasts as well. Heck, you can't even say you want Mass Effect 2, MAG, and No More Heroes because if you forget to add Tatsunoko vs. Capcom some people out there already hate you.
Already have ME2 reserved at Gamestop. Going to the midnight launch and picking up my copy tonight. Gonna have like no hours of sleep before work tomorrow but who cares? It should definitely be worth it.
@ Henninger If I still had my Wii I would be right with you. I would of like my money to support ventures like TvC but no Wii no TvC for me :( Got to see the TvC fight sticks and they look so sweet. So at last ME2 gets my money regretfully.
Someone doesn't like people who like games, everyone who likes MAG, ME2, or DS (That's me), got -3 - -4. Only for a few posts though.
i guess i'll be seeing 360 and PS3 fanboys bark at each other for the next week(in nearby stores), though i'd probably be one of those PS3 fanboys talking smack about ME2
Whats up with Blood Bowl? The folks at my local Gamestop would not believe me that is was coming out on anything but the PC. (because that is all their store computers showed) I had to print a page from their web site to show them that it does exist. All they said was they would make a to the higher ups to check on it.
@Realacide I wouldn't depend on reviews. If you don't want to buy it right away, then rent it. The reviews are just going to say "It's not Modern Warfare 2", even though they're 2 completely different shooters. Rent > immature reviews.
it's funny how you guys say you're getting one game and not the other. it just make it seems like you're hating but you wanna be humble about it...
Am I the only 1 that is more interested in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom than the other games? The only reason im not interested in ME2 is cuz i havent played the 1st game. & MAG does interest me but its an online only title & i dont wanna own online only games. I'll wait a lil bit on MAG.
