Electronic Arts' latest military first-person shooter takes point, Sony and 2K Sports release their annual MLB double-header, Supreme Commander 2 debuts, and Mega Man hits 10 in a busy week.
The early 2010 parade of high-profile games continues without pause this week, as Electronic Arts' anticipated Battlefield: Bad Company 2 leads a solid lineup of new releases. The DICE-developed shooter won't be deploying alone, as retailers will also be receiving the year's new baseball games, the latest massive-scale real-time strategy game from Gas Powered Games, and more.
A direct sequel to the 2008 console exclusive, Bad Company 2 picks back up with the derelict B Company, which comprises a fictitious US military's expendable misfits and outcasts. Destructible environments, which were a core component of the original game, will again play front and center in Bad Company 2, thanks to further revisions to its proprietary Frostbite game engine. EA is also placing a new emphasis on vehicular combat, with 15 different rides from which to choose.
The week will also see the return of baseball, as Major League Baseball spring training games kick off and this season's new baseball efforts from 2K Sports and Sony hit store shelves. Sony's MLB 10: The Show will be hitting the electronic giant's PlayStation family of systems, while 2K Sports' MLB 2K10 will appear on all major consoles and handhelds, as well as the PC.
PC gamers more interested in strategy than sports will be able to check out Supreme Commander 2. Picking up 25 years after the events depicted in 2007's highly acclaimed PC original, Supreme Commander 2 lets players assume command of three separate factions, each with its own special and experimental war-waging units. The game's single-player campaign features more than 18 missions, while multiplayer accommodates play for up to eight.
Rounding out the biggest of the new releases is the freshly dated Mega Man 10 for the Wii. The latest retro-styled downloadable adventure for the Blue Bomber will feature the usual gauntlet of robotic villains, as well as a new "easy mode" and the ability to play as either Mega Man or Proto-Man from the outset. Mega Man 10 is also set to hit the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this month, though Capcom hasn't confirmed exactly when.
For further details on the week's games, visit GameSpot's New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and the Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.

@mimicus Im just saying my opinion and im a man of my own beliefs so i dont care about any reviews or critics (even though cod 4 and mw 2 got higher scores than battlefield bad company 1 & 2 anyway). Everyone I asked liked MW2 better, because it effortlessly creates a world without borders that is so smooth (even though sometimes it has bugs and glitches in the online multiplayer) that players can show off their skills easily. And again this is my opinion. oh and send me proof that you're not an EA guy and I'll give you a million dollars.
@SinaGT Calm down, cream puff. Your theory is amusing, although completely absurd and bereft of all rational thought. If you'll care to take a look at some early reviews and scores, I think you'll notice that you are clearly in the minority here. You're not gonna change any opinions with your mindless banter. Instantly giving yourself a thumbs-up on a post does not necessarily validate your verbal diarrhea. Here's the worst news: You owe me a million dollars.
@mimicus battlefield bc2 is just a piece of crap and i bet a million dollars that all you guys who think battlefield bc2 is good are EA guys or are paid by EA
@brockman13 and u care? battlefield bc2 is just a piece of unplayable crap that has the slowest frame rate ever.
Rubber pellet gun...check....skii mask....check...black trench coat...check....whatcha looking at??? How else am I gonna afford all these games coming out this month? Times is hard man!!!
I will have to say this year has been amazing with great releases, and this week again follows that trend. I have spent ample time with MW2, and ample time with the BC2 demo, and I have to agree with those that say BC2 is the better game. BC2 to me feels better balanced, and whenever you get killed or get a kill it does not feel cheap like MW2 kills tend to do so. Thats just me though.... And I am also excited this week for Lunar Silver Star Harmony, I am very very excited for this port of one of my favorite games of all time. Great week, just cannot wait till next week for FFXIII, and then the following for GOW3!
Awsome, now I can finally use those gift cards I got for chistmas (I will remember this time!). The only thing that has me a bit worried about B:BC2 is the press about them taking it in a darker direction. I hope they can balance that with the humor of the first game, since I loved those guys banter. Felt much more like real people.
Oh wow what a fanboy.. dude there are games that came out both before and after modern warfare to that are better than it both online and offline.. that games story was crap I beat that in less than 8 hours on my first play through the online is not all that .. take if from someone who has played EVERY COD ever released
BC2 looking good, gonna have to wait and see for sure. Just to many great games coming out, not enough time...
I've really been thinking of buying a slim PS3, especially now that they are pumping out some great exclusives. GOW3 and MLB 10 the Show are must own games for the PS3. I had a PS3 about a year and a half ago, but sold it simply because I was just using it to play Blu rays. I was gaming on my 360 and watching Blu rays on my Samsung stand alone Blu ray player, and most games that were on the PS3 were on the 360. With the exception on Metal Gear Solid and Little Big Planet. But now they really seem to be pumping out some good exclusives and I am now starting to regret getting rid of it! I should've known they wouldn't stay down for long.
@SinaGT Your right, nothing will ever be BETER then modern warfare 2 mainly becuase BETER is not a word.
I'm gonna be honest here, I'm super pumped for Toy Soldiers. Brings back memories of when my brother and I would play with our toys...so much fun. :)
@lamprey263 Yes I read the issue with PSN, but the issue had not been posted nor issues with trophy support before I posted. Now as far as Multi-platform games selling more on 360, well most multi-platform games are ported to the PS3 and do not work properly, I guess game dev's do not factor in the different hardware specs of both consoles. Multi-platform games are designed around the 360 hardware and therefore easier to program with a PC. I'd say in a year or maybe 2 years more dev's will come to terms with the hardware of the PS3 and start actually developing on it first and porting it over, FFXIII will be the first title to actually do that sort of thing. I'm sure I will get thumbed down, but nothing tickles my fancy this week, maybe Mega Man 10 just to see if Capcom made it just as difficult or worse than the original 8-bit Ninja Gaiden on the NES. Its so strange that when we are younger the Mega Man games did not seem so difficult, but now at an older age it seems like its impossilbe.
REMEMBER THIS TIL DEATH: NO GAME WILL EVER BE BETER THAN MODERN WARFARE 2 .PERIOD. (except for modern warfare 3)
im actually looking forward to the Sonic Classic Collection for DS. I lost my Sonic Mega Collection and i want to refresh myself on the series before Sonic 4 comes out
I wish Final Fantasy was this week... But then again, my PS3 is bugged out with that clock bug... *sigh*
@diabloakaSAHA GameSpot usually does not have an article about the previous month's sales until a week or two into the new month. It's because they get their numbers from the NPD which take a couple of days to crunch the numbers from all the retail chains in the US. Don't worry, if AVP is tops they won't be shy about saying it was.
@Rottenwood I can't remember, do you have a PS3? If you do definitely check out MAG, that game really adds some new stuff to the mix.
@deesnutts25 actually I'm not trying to put the PS3 down, I have one and am very upset by the error, but the PS3 has come a long way in matching the Xbox 360 in multiplatform sales which is strong for 3rd party publishers, in some cases the Xbox 360 gets the majority of multiplatform sales for specific titles but only by a few percentage points, if the problem is as widespread as it's being talked about there's going to be a lot of people not worrying about buying games for a system that's not working, I'd hope BFBC2 would be one of those games people would want to get, since this article mentions its release that's why I'm brining it up I really like Bad Company, I'd like to see it become a major competitor with Modern Warfare and for that to happen the game needs strong sales and since it's wedged in a week before FFXIII and two weeks before GOW3, I think it's important to sell strong early, if Sony can fix their issue today they don't have to worry about people with systems not working not being able to buy games. Plus, it's not that the multiplayer is down. Games with trophies have been effected by this error and if you've read up on this issue people can't even play offline single-player as this issue prevents the game from launching, it takes you in and then backs you out. Some games though are completely void of this issue but many of them are still not working.
@mlg_oriongamer I don't think "all FPS games are the same;" I merely stated that I'm only interested in ones with interesting themes or innovations. No One Lives Forever, TimeSplitters 2, BioShock, etc. I'm sure Battlefield is well-made but the theme of modern army warfare has been done to death and is no longer interesting to me personally. Destructible environments are fun, but hardly unique. Crysis, all of the Red Faction games, Mercenaries, etc. Frankly, it seems a bit redundant with Modern Warfare 2 still on the scene, but competition is always good, I guess.
@mlg_oriongamer You must have forgotten red faction as far as destructive environments go. BFBC2 is not the first to do it in a shooter. I think when he said something new he was refering to something that has never been done before, which destructive environments has been done, so has the modern genera of fps games. @ lamprey263 Your not trying to put the PS3 down are you?? I have a fat 80gb PS3 and have no issues with it at all. If you do own a PS3 and have not had the issue, then why mention it at all. This article has nothing to do with PSN or anything else console related, its about the games. Claiming a game will not sell good because of a lacking online component makes no sense, look at all of the single player games that have made tons of cash for game companies. Multiplayer fuctions give a game more replay value, but its not the only thing that sells a game.
awsome man I just hope Steam servers are ready for the amount of downloads tomorrow its just gotta be crazy with BC2!
if Sony doesn't fix the phat PS3 8001050F error then BFBC2 on the PS3 might not sell so hot for a while
@Rottenwood the fps has to be unique huh well badcompany has the almost 100% destructable environments and if u think all fpses r the same look at baseball thats way more repetative like u said a roster update and a few tweaks. oh and BFBC2 all the way march 2nd will be a day to remember
