Shippin' Out February 25-29: Frontlines, Turning Point
Multiplatform shooters arrive in retail with Wii Destroy All Humans, Patapon, and Lost: Via Domus.
Between God of War: Chains of Olympus, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Army of Two, and Rainbow Six: Vegas 2, there are an unusual number of top-tier releases set for March this year. This last week of February is no slouch either, given that it sees the birth of multiple new franchises, including Frontlines: Fuel of War, Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, and Patapon (Lack of Subtitle).
Though THQ canned the PlayStation 3 version of Frontlines, players can step into the near-future open-world shooter and fight for control of the world's diminishing natural resources on the PC and the Xbox 360 this week. For shooter fans who like their fiction but not the near-futuristic setting of Frontlines, Spark Unlimited's Turning Point: Fall of Liberty arrives on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Published by Codemasters, Turning Point is set in an alternate-history 1950s in which the Allies lost World War II and Nazis have invaded America.
The final notable new intellectual property of the week is Patapon for the PlayStation Portable. With a visual style reminiscent of LocoRoco, the game combines real-time strategy and rhythm-game conventions with a budget price tag of $19.99.
Beyond franchise-starters, this week sees a number of spin-offs as well. THQ brings its Destroy All Humans! franchise to the Wii with Big Willy Unleashed. A PlayStation 2 version had been planned, but the publisher announced its cancellation at the same time it killed the PS3 Frontlines. Meanwhile, TV megahit Lost gets an interactive spin-off, Lost: Via Domus, for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. On a similar titular note, Capcom's Lost Planet: Extreme Condition finds its way to the PS3 this week, over a year after the game originally arrived on the Xbox 360.
For gamers who don't feel like making the trek out to the store, Nintendo is bringing the Nintendo 64 game Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards as well as the TurboGrafx-16 shooter Psychosis to the Wii's Virtual Console. Kirby will sell for the standard Nintendo 64 game rate of 1,000 Wii points ($10), whereas Psychosis will hit the usual TG-16 price point of 600 Wii points ($6). Meanwhile, Microsoft is releasing the Japanese arcade and Dreamcast top-down shooter Trigger Heart Exelica on the Xbox Live Arcade for 800 Microsoft points ($10) this Wednesday.
This week's new releases are listed below (list taken from retailer information--actual dates may vary).

worst game ever!!!!!!!!!!!!! I played the beginning and turned it off. but i love the show
I played the demo for turning point hoping the game was good but god it was one of the worst shooters ever. No offence to you turning fans.
When the hell are the reviews for these games going to come out on Gamespot
omg lost!!!! season 4 is awesome
Frontlines seems like a fun game from the multiplayer demo. I really am hoping for turning point though. its got a neat premise, but ive heard almost nothing about what multiplayer has to offer. However, ive got to correct ctg867 on Lost Planet. Yes it is a great game and its nice to see it being released new at a low price, but the PS3 lost planet is the worst rated version yet. I saw the review on IGN and they said the graphics were downgraded, there are next to no water physics, the game slows down whenever more than 5 enemies get on screen, there is no payoff for getting coins, multiplayer games can lag out with just 2 people, etc. There were also reader comments that said that it was inferior as well. It makes me sad that they didnt work too hard on it :(
Frontlines and Turning Point are both decent games games from everything I hear, have read, and what I've played from the demos. If you really want a semi tactical modern FPS or a WWII inspired shooter, then pick one of them up. Though I wouldn't even consider buying Lost, since the show doesn't impress me, and I doubt a crappy game with decent graphics will change anything. If you liked Lost Planet, but only have a PS3, I guess this is your week. Looks and plays a lot better then the 360 (and especially the PC) version, and it only cost $40, as compared to a full priced game at $60. I really enjoyed the demo, and I liked the game on 360. If you've played the game or demo before, and like it at all, I recommend picking up the full game, definitely. Though whats the most important thing on this list? PATAPON!!!! Honestly, if you have a PSP, and you don't buy Patapon, you may no longer consider yourself a gamer, end of story. And the GH3 guitars for Wii/PS3 come out this week? Are they going to be native wireless? Or are they going to be USB dongle wireless? Has the 360 one already come out? Anyway, if you're looking for a guitar, either get this one or the one that Nyko is putting out, which are both wireless. Don't waste your money on that pathetic Rock Band guitar, which is complete crap. The flicker sucks, the whammy sucks, the buttons aren't as responsive, and it's wired. The two new features, the solo buttons and the effects switch, are completely useless. Trust me, DO NOT BUY THE ROCK BAND GUITARS, THEY ARE GARBAGE. Not to mention the fact that they literally become garbage, since so many of them break or loose sensitivity or quality.
Frontlines has a lot of potenial. I played b oth the Single Player and Multiplayer demos, and the single player campaign from teh demo is....well...eh...its another military based FPS, but the Multiplayer...could be incredible. If you can manage to get 50 people in a match for big battles loaded with Vechs and Drones, on man Frontlines could be a great alternative to Battlefield 2.
I hope turningpoint or frontlines does good? I havn't bought a game for a while, and these two look promising.
gonna at least rent some of these
Hmm.... Sounds Good.
screw that the demo was bad and its so laggy. Army of two is gonna own
Frontlines maybe
why so many first person shooters?? give us third person any day.
Well nothing this week, I was going to get Frontlines, but the demo was so bad
Frontlins wasn't bad going by the demo, but it didn't seem like it did anything new...might have a look when it's on special. Still not sure about Turning Point........ Patapon demo was genius though....I'll be grabbing that the second I see it. :)
if i had a wii i would have picked up Kirby and the crystal shards :P i loved that gamed for 64.
I recommend Lost Planet for the PS3. The online is a lot of fun and its unique from other games in its genre.
Neither Turning Point or Frontlines have impressed me so far. But I still have my hopes up.
Woo- hoo trigger heart is finally coming to Xbla! all we need now is a euro release date and some more info on where Ikaruga got to...
I hope Turning Point is at least a decent and fun game. I have been interested in it, and ATM I pretty disappointed, after hearing how bad the demo was.
Yes Frontlines: Fuel of War is out! I played the hell out of that MP Demo :)
Lest we forget, Turning Point is also coming to PC, not just console. All that first-person mischief (please be good, oh team that has worked on CoD franchise) deserves mouse and keys, and one's GF 8800 will prove to be eminently compatible--as they're in the Nvidia program.
I'm really getting tired of shooters. I'll maybe get Lost: Via Domus just so I can play a decent action/adventure game. Why are there so few? Can't w8 for SW: Force Unleashed.
I really enjoyed the Frontlines Demo
Hey okassar, welcome to the future of the 360. The only hard part of game development for Sony was the learning curve of the BluRay Discs. Well guess what... Now with HD-DVD out of the mix, get ready to have a ton more delays for the XBOX, unless they plan on cramming all their next-gen games on standard Dvds.
*Deep into the Sony part of the brain* "Patapon (Lack of Subtitle)" lol! The game looks interesting. I still don't quite get it though, but that's why there's GFaqs/GSpot/IGN/Wikipedia. It's $20 so what can I lose? *Meanwhile back in the Nintendo part* KIRBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Farm Vet? Another great week for PC gaming.
okassar Frontlines got a 7.6 from IGN, i dun care if bad games get canned, as long as the good ones stay
OMG lolz, the PS3 version of Frontlines was canned.Hahahahah, that's what you get Sony for making so hard to develop on the PS3.
wow an N64 game is 10 bucks? That's a little bit harsh to consumers I guess I appreciate the PS1 games playable on the PSP for 6 bucks now. I wish there were more:(
Awesome, can't wait for to see lost planet(ps3).
Patapon FTW
Patapon is an amazing games, the reviews have been great, i played the demo, very addicting, btw for anyone who doesn';t know, if you play and beat the demo, you get a weapon you can't get in the normal game, and u start where u finished in the demo, so its worthwhile to play the demo even if you can't save until u finish
Games,games and more games.
Wow, Lost Planet is JUST now coming out for PS3?
Pata Pata pata Pon, its Pata Tuesday lets save the patapon tribe!!
"MFazio23 I hoping to see an update with MLB 08, since rumors of that being out this week are flying around..." It's coming out next week...
"360player_eq12 Bratz: Super Babyz. ... wtf is that? do u play as the "Bratz" as they go on the maury show and cus at their moms about how much they want to have a baby and they dont care what anybody says... the final stage u go to boot camp, and the bonus stage u go backstage and take care of kids??? 360player_eq12 Bratz: Super Babyz. ... wtf is that? do u play as the "Bratz" as they go on the maury show and cus at their moms about how much they want to have a baby and they dont care what anybody says... the final stage u go to boot camp, and the bonus stage u go backstage and take care of kids???" not really a big week IMO
Christie's coming to the Wii. That should be interesting.
Not much this week, but next week is Army of Two
Only Patapon surefire for me. Maybe Triggerheart Exelica if it's a solid one. Then i'll look for reviews of Frontlines and Turning Point.
This week is chock-fulla-kick-ass-games! Front Lines and Turning Point look good for my 360. Kirby for the Wii via VC makes me long for the Wii that much more.
I hoping to see an update with MLB 08, since rumors of that being out this week are flying around...
Naruto and Lost Planet AWESOME
kirby yes!
